That’s an entirely home-grown side. Every single member of the team, including the sub, came through the ranks. Seems almost incredible now.

We signed Hodgy from Worksop Town and Fenoughty from Sheffield FC but the rest of the team came through the ranks and it was a very good achievement beating Everton who didnt concede a goal for many home games.
Two weeks later Everton beat Man U in the FA Cup semi final and won the FA Cup final against Wendy. Ten from the Everton line up that played against us played in the FA Cup final five weeks later. The only change was Mike Trebilcock (who hardly played for the first team since he signed for them in December 1965) instead of England International, Fred Pickering. Despite being the two goal hero in the FA Cup Final, Trebilcock hardly played more games in the first team before being transferred to Portsmouth in January 1968. Just 11 first team games in a little more than 2 years at Everton.
I missed the Everton game Peter, some of the Dronny Blades and Chezzy lad's went though, told me they were lucky to get out alive.

In the 1970s my dad told me that the first ever football match I went to was Blades v Blackpool, I asked him what the score was. He paused for a bit before saying "4-1 to United", I could tell he was using guesswork! He then said "You cheered when Blackpool scored!". He had already told me during the 1970 World Cup that he took me to watch Switzerland v Spain at S6 in the 1966 World Cup (I dont have any recollection of going to that match as I was only 4 years old at the time). In the late 1970s my dad told me that he took me to Reserves matches before taking me to first team matches very occasionally before I became a committed Blade (in January 1970) and this had confused me a bit wondering if my first ever football match was against Blackpool Reserves rather than against Blackpool first team!
When I bought Denis Clareborough's "The First 100 years" book in summer 1989, one of the first things I looked for to pinpoint my first ever match by looking at our results in the home matches against Blackpool during the mid 1960s. In my investigation I discovered that we lost 3-1 in October 1964, lost 1-0 in April 1966, drew 1-1 in November 1966 and won 2-1 in the FA Cup in February 1968. I was thinking "there was no 4-1 scoreline" and showed my dad the scores from the book. He gave me the look that he wished he hadnt told me about my first ever football match. I asked him if the Blackpool match was after the Spain v Switzerland World Cup match. He replied "No, it was definitely before the World Cup match".
I started going in the Internet after my dad had passed away in 1999 so whenever there was a discussion in a football forum about the first ever football match you went to, I would say that my first ever match was against Blackpool on Easter Monday 1966 and that we had lost 1-0 even though I wasnt 100 percent sure about it being my first match.
Then in 2022 I met HodgysBrokenThumb for the first time, he kindly gave me the programme for "my first ever match" (see below). When I read the programme at home I then realised that the kick off time for Blackpool game in April 1966 was 7.30pm which would be very unlikely I was there because I would be "too young" to attend an evening football match and my mum certainly wouldnt have allowed my dad to take me!
Now my guess that my first ever football match was against Blackpool Reserves on Saturday April 17th 1965!

If the match doesn’t have quite the emotional meaning for you it once did, at least I was pleased to see my dad’s distinctive handwriting recording the team changes in the programme

Mick Jones scored his 20th and 21st league goal of the season. The only two other Blades players who have scored at least 20 league goals in the top tier for one season since 1933 are Doc Pace (20) in 1961-62 and Bill Dearden (20) in 1972-73.

Tough one Silent!
Not all, but I reckon Jim Levitt, Roger Peck, Stuart Hutchison and Brian Conley are amongst those.
Great memories. The match was played on a Monday evening. I went with a couple of younger mates who had not been to a game before and we stood on the kop at the front behind the goal.
The Blades totally dominated the game and my main memory is the Arsenal keeper Jim Furnell making some brilliant saves to keep the score down. He was signed by Tommy Docherty for Rotherham a couple of years later.

Not see this kind of rating before, most newspaper reporters have each players scores starting from 10 and deductions are made for various errors (just like in gymnastics), Deadbat 's scores for each players start from 0 and additions are made for various contributions. It looks like The Sun's reporters are rating the top 10 players on the pitch with Kaye in 1st place and Len Badger in 10th place?

Being relatively young and living locally I was allowed to attend Central League games on my own so I cut my teeth attending many Central League games on a Saturday Afternoon.
it was quite a day when we won the Central League before a larger than average crowd.
My memory is hazy and I seem to recall it being a night match which allowed a few sporadic first team players to supplement the team.
Great memories of the Central League stalwarts such as Bob Widdowson, Charlie Bell and Dennis Finnegan!
