Not for the first match (Elland Road) and third (St Andrews)Great to see the tie played at a neutral venue roughly halfway between the two teams.
I wonder what the selection process was? Maybe the different clubs were more/less amenable. I would have thought Derby and Forest were the obvious venues, or Villa if they wanted a bigger venue, but then I don't know what the respective grounds were like in 1961. Better than playing them at Wembley anyway! Not for the first match (Elland Road) and third (St Andrews)
The first replay played at forest was a four game if I remember rightly, had the day off school to go .Shouldnt have gone to a replay as has been said !,Doc's goal ruled out for handball he showed the mark on his shoulder (shirt) where the ball struck him. After the first draw at Leeds the expense of the first replay left me short on money so missed the 2nd at St Andrew's .I wonder what the selection process was? go on youtube and type in match of the day sheffield united goes from 60s to 1990 good watchAre there many full matches/extended highlights to watch of United in the 60's-80's periods? I grew up in the wrong era I think (90s/00s) but always love watching older matches, it's much more my kind of football in many ways and certainly more akin to the game I played myself!
I was there and saw a perfectly good Doc goal disallowed.as a 9 year old i was devastated when we lost at st andrews and in later years my future father in law who was at elland road always insisted that doc paces goal should have stood and that it definetly wasnt hand ball
