100 games for McGoldrick

Might be my favorite ever player. I love watching him play.

Even when we play crap, he hardly gets dispossessed, always looks to pass forwards, frequently tracks back. Plus he's pretty much scored all his top flight goals against the big clubs!

Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and 2 against Man U this season alone. He also notched 2 v Chelsea in the league last season and 1 v Arsenal in the cup!

What is amazing is how he never gets injured. His time at Ipswich was blighted with injury. Maybe there was something in him driving a lot and that contributing.

I think we might continue to be surprised at how many games he is fit to play every season. He may be the wrong side of 30 but because of his injury record he doesn't have as many miles on the clock as other players his age. Think he's got plenty of years left myself.

Is it allowed to mention one little criticism of him? He does not get many assists. For a deep lying/roaming forward or even number 10 you'd expect him to play more through balls and set up more goals. He's got 1 assist this season, 2 last and 4 in the promotion season.

He opted to shoot, which I think we're all reluctant to criticise. But it's not too often we see a penetrating through ball in such situations.

I'm not sure why he tries to shoot from distance so much, because, let's face it, he's shit at shooting. He never seems to get a proper connection of the ball, always a side foot.

Outrageous player. Remember being pretty underwhelmed when we signed him. Seemed to have been around ages, past his peak and his best season ever was about 15 goals in the championship. Crazy how good at football he is and that nobody else seemed interested in him when we got him.

We'll seriously miss the McGoldrick days when they're over. He's such a rare commodity to find - particularly at our level. He's from the old school mould of number 10s that you don't really see anymore - think Bergkamp, Rivaldo ilk.

A player that operates between the lines, has complete composure, slows things down, retains possession, helps us get up the field. The system breaks without him and we become long ball. All of our best performances involve an on-song David McGoldrick.

When we got to the business end of our promotion season, I was sure we were going to bottle it. Instead, a McGoldrick inspired Blades just accelerated through the gears and (although it didn't feel like it to us) cruised over the finish line. He absolutely bossed that period of games.

I've never known a player retain such popularity despite going through such an awful spell in front of goal. It proves that if you put 100% in every week and work for the team, the fans will always back you.

Hats off to McGoldrick. Legend.

How good was Bogle yesterday? Not even like it was a one off either. He's a serious talent.

The double transfer in of him and Lowe reminds me of the double transfer out of Walker and Naughton - one came very good, the other so-so.
Wonder if the same will happen here or do we think Lowe could develop?

I suppose the underwhelming element to begin with was that on the face of it, he was always injured, didn't score that many goals and that a crap Ipswich team had let him go and there were no takers for him besides us and in basic economics, something in low demand isn't usually very good or very useful.

WRONG

This bloke has dug us out of the shit so many times in those 100 appearances. If he had better luck with injuries earlier on in his career, he'd be playing for England, not Ireland and would be way out of our price bracket. Even after all the money we've spent since promotion, he's still been our best, most consistent contributor to the team and we always look better with him out there.

Basham is consistent in the fact that he's a workhorse who does a specific job he's been drilled to do and does it every week. McGoldrick is a genuine quality footballer who will be very difficult for us to replace and is the biggest positive influence on our team. When he plays his last game for us, he will always be remembered fondly and will be a benchmark for anybody we sign in the future.

Superb signing and is one of the most "intelligent" footballers we have with good link up play. Obviously the downside of this is he is often deeper down the pitch instead of being on the shoulder of the opposition CB ready for a cross or through ball. - That isn't a criticism of him as a player - more the flat 3 system we employ.

Didsy has been one of very few bright lights this season, but another curiosity is how despite being top scorer he has had a tendency to score "pointless" goals. We have lost every game he's scored in (bit of a technicality v Burnley in the cup, I know, but we still ended up going out). Compare this with Sharp, whose goals have contributed to 2 PL wins, 2 FA cup wins and 1 PL draw; and Bogle, whose mere 3 goals have contributed to 1 PL win, 1 PL draw and 1 FA cup win. No idea what this means - except perhaps it particularly highlights Didsy's talent how he's shown the ability to score against all the top sides (spurs, chelsea, arsenal, Man U x 2) when often the rest of the team couldn't.
