Sheffield United have reportedly agreed a £50,000-a-man bonus if they stay in the Premiership.

The Sun claims that senior players at Bramall Lane - Phil Jagielka, Chris Morgan and David Unsworth - hammered out a deal.

How many of them would get that? 30 man squad equals £1.5m. A small price to pay for survival, and would be a good incentive that doesn't cripple us if we go down, like bigger contracts would.

More smart thinking.

Its not Smart its Greedy.

They shouldnt need money as an incentive to keep us up.

They get paid enough.

But surely this is a better alternative to players wanting bigger contracts because they're 'Premiership' players, which isn't unusual. I'd say this is certainly the lesser of those evils, and if we do stay up, I'd say they deserve it.

Don't think it's down to greed when Our players obviously see Chelski, Manure and other clubs paying that much to one player per week.
It's an incentive for the players like an end of year bonus is for normal people at work (Not mine but they're stindgy gits)

Could have been key to getting players to sign on the current contracts with favourable terms (for the club) if we go down.

Good idea in my opinion. Only the players can lose out really.

If we stay up that money is nothing.

And they deserve a bonus for staying up.

But I think the thought of playing in the prem for another season would be bonus enough

Bollocks. You could apply that "logic" to every bonus scheme in every profession. Are you saying there shouldn't be win bonuses, goal bonuses and clean sheet bonuses for our players either? Why the hell not whilst us regular folk are all for getting Christmas bonuses from our bosses and profit share schemes? Sorry Sharpy, I often agree with your "no non-sense" perspective but unfortunately this time you're talking "non-sense".

But i dont get a bonus every week.

Whilst the idea of a bonus for staying up is good, why should someone get a bonus for scoring? or keeping a clean sheet?

Because scoring goals and keeping clean sheets is how you win football matches.

Winning matches means you are higher up the table, the higher you are up the table the better players you get, and you get more money.

More money means the club grows.......

You catch my drift yet?

Without players scoring goals and keeping clean sheets the club would be nothing.

Why should the board of directors get big bonuses at the end of the year when it's the players on the pitch that bring the money in.

Well i hope they have to pay the club 50k each if we go down.

I find it dissapointing that it sounds like the players themselves asked for this, thought they cared about the club more than money.

But surely if a player doesn't score goals or keep a clean sheet then they're no good as a footballer and should be transfered anyway?

The passions for the club and game should be all the incentive needed?

Just a thought-dont hit me

They do... which is why most of them aren't on anywhere near what they could be earning at other clubs and why many agreed to a drop in wages if United should be relegated.

At the end of the day, it's their job like anyone's job. If someone offered you a bonus at your work, would you turn it down because you loved your place of work so much?

So let me get this straight, if somebody scores a flukey goal, say it just deflected off them? they should get a bonus?

From your logic, the players are potentially playing to be replaced correct? cause if they get higher in the league, then we get better players?

I agree with bonuses for set things, ie if the team is told if they have "X" amount of points by 31st December they get bonus, if they have "Y" amount of points they get higher bonus. if they don't achieve it, they don't get one.

But why should people get bonuses for getting a singular goal, or keeping a singular clean sheet.

Perhaps what would be good if someone got bonuses for reaching landmarks, ie somebody gets 10 goals, 10 clean sheets or something?

thats a good logic robbie. i agree with the set target bonus.

I can see lindz's point also though about the passion, but some players wouldn't certainly stay if a better offer came along though would they? just a thought

Thats being in the right place at the right time, which is where you've got to be to score goals/

If the team are set 'target points' its pointless because it is unknown what other teams are getting, so we could be targeted 20 points before christmas but end up being bottom of the league, so they are being payed extra for being bottom of the league. And like RaWW said scoring goals and keeping clean sheets is the way of getting points so this has tp be focused on:)
