During the close season we've discussed all kinds of topics but I didn't notice any major concerns about us not spending enough or questioning our recruitment policy until today.

Nothing to do with losing a game yesterday is it?

Have faith chaps! We've always been frugal. The manager will bring in players capable of making us a competitive force in this division - and we are already showing we can be that. Just need a little bit more pace and quality here and there.

Some of us have on the Leonard thread with regards to us trying to lowball Southend.

Oddly enough others clubs have an asking price for their players and they usually don't budge until they get it.

The entire reason we dropped into league one and stayed there for many years was for the exact opppsite of "finding a cheap way of doing things".

Yes it was

Bad investment with a number of crap managers

Now we have a good one who won't make many mistakes in the transfer market, certainly not major costly ones

All we want this season is to be able to compete reasonably well, the club is in a great position that it has no pressure on it to achieve miracles.

We can't get everything we need in one season but we need a bit of what we need now and a bit more next season and a bit more the season after.

As long as gradual improvement can be seen and felt everyone will be happy

I guarantee a select bunch of people certainly won't be happy whatever happens.

To be fair, I'm fairly happy with Wilder's recruitment so far in terms of who he's got for the value he's got them for. Some really shrewd signings that will be useful in the longer term.

If we've got the £6.5M from walker & maguire & that's the cash in CW's war chest that's also gotta include the wages of whoever we get which would be between 750k- £1M per year for a 15-20k a week player & obvs upwards of this depending on the quality you want / need / expect.
It's a balancing act because as soon as you get one champagne Charlie on £20k , average Joe on his contract renewal wants parity with him , this is what's fucked us up properly in the past . Our main priority initially has to be staying in this division to guarantee the extra revenue & then bud the club from that . The simple economics are we cannot compete financially with the prem drop outs & £70m parachute payments plus some of the others who've gone shit or bust . Unfortunately for some of them only 3 go up & a lot will be in deep deep shit stool with players on prem contracts but getting championship revenue. I think we'll get a better picture of where we are and what we need after say 10 games so let's get behind the lads , you never know we might just surprise a few on the big spending list ?

the problem i see is we are competing with teams that have enjoyed the incomes of the championship or prem for years. We haven't had that income yet.....
it's like you landing a job with x2 wages, you can't spend it till you start to receive it.
pigs have been in this division for years, with sponsorship, TV money and (massive)gates of 250,000 for that time, yet spunk £10m on Rhodes, give it time.

I trust CW totally but fail to see why some of our fans always take the lowest of the low as a guide when we sign someone .
Fulham site says it 1.2 for Steadman so why do some persist in saying it's 300k .it's insulting the club

No it doesn't. Fulham and United both reported an undisclosed fee (http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2017/july/06/stearman-departs). I don't know where you got that £1.2m figure from but it's as reliable as the £300k others are reporting. I also don't get what's "insulting" to United about reporting lower fees: surely that should be considered as praise for doing good deals?

FWIW I would have thought the Stearman fee was around the £500k mark with add-ons taking it to £750k. That's a wild guess though; and while I'm at it:

Stearman £500k
Lundstram £350k
Baldock £200k
Thomas £150k
Evans £100k
Stevens £0

What a rock bottom opinion you have of United .. frightening some of our fans gutter view of our club.

Wednesday fans have got you hook line and sinker believing their propaganda

According to Biggs on Sheffield Live today we have spent £2.8M.

I don't even know where to start with that. Utter nonsense but I suppose that's par for the course with you.

Baldock £600k. Stearman £1m. £2.8m in total. See excellent article on 'Scouting infrastructure problems' thread.
