£1m price tag on Conor Coady

£500k plus add-ons (dependent on appearances and/or promotion) sounds about right to me, and might just be within our budget. But it'll also be within plenty of other teams' budgets too.

Yeah, you've gotta think that Wolves, for example, might be keen at that price.

Suppose it depends what the lad wants. If he truly wants to return to BDTBL then it makes bartering down that price tag all the more easier.

seems odd for Liverpool to go public with an asking price for, at best, one of their reserves. My bet is we've got a bid in and they're trying to start a bidding war.

Article also says Clough hasn't ruled out a return on loan, which may indicate he hasn't/won't be meeting the asking price?

"Clough refused to rule-out the possibility of brokering another temporary agreement for Coady’s services"

...I don't think that would be such a bad price when you break it down...300k now, 300k if/when promoted and 400k if/when Prem!

Nice test for Princey and his 'Liverpool sized investment'

Everyone's a winner!

Welcome home Conor.

UTB!

I think we should snap him up before other clubs start sniffing round. According to The Stir, he played 50 games for us last season so we definitely know what we're getting.

I think most of us knew we wouldn't get both Brayford and Coady, but Coady is a more pivotal player. Having said that, it looks like Cardiff are having a 'fire sale' with WBA after Fraizer Campbell, Valencia after Gary Medell (£11m!), Servette want Craig Bellamy, Spurs & Arsenal after David Marshall and Southampton and others after Steven Caulker.

So it would seem Cardiff aren't banking on a swift return to the PL.

If Cardiff are selling all those players that probably lessens the chances of Brayford coming back. After all it will be squad player such as Brayford that will have to fill the gaps unfortunately.

500k up front sounds reasonable for someone with his potential.

I dont know how we would stand with FFP on this however.

Surely, given it was us who added all the value to him last term, we should get first dibs and a discount? Or maybe football doesn't work like that....

Are there Championship clubs interested and willing to pay £500k plus? If his contract had been a year shorter I think Liverpool would have released him. I don't think we should pay over the odds if there are no other clubs bidding for him.

In Nigel we trust......
Would like him back, but, he's not the only fish in the sea. So it's all a matter of who needs who most.......;)

He's one of the best fish that we can catch with our nets!

The lad just got better and better. His performance in the last match against Coventry was a demonstration of what he can do. As a central midfielder, there isn't much missing from his game and he will only improve, especially under NC's guidance. He's going to be an outstanding player (hopefully for us) in the years to come.

The same could have been said about Matthew Lowton

That is true but will a Premiership club come in for Coady, I think not
Hes not good enough for the Prem atm, hes done ok at the Lane but £1m is too much to pay for him
Im sure we could get better VFM elsewhere if we are spending that kind of cash

I wouldn't believe owt I read in that paper...I believe clough wants him and I think the player also wants to come here. .I'd be disappointed if we didn't try to sign him permanently. ...

It would be a sensible purchase at £500,000 to £750,000 in my opinion, which I fully expect decent bargaining to get from a starting valuation of one million.

He is fully proven at this level and improving rapidly. He can take over from Doyle when his contract runs out at the end of next season seamlessly. He will get you about 10 goals from midfield in a decent team as he continues to improve his game. He can play every match of the season if needs be. We can afford him, others can't. It''s a no-brainer.

Would be nice to see some of this invested promise be spent tbh.. McNulty was a nominal fee and JCR free I believe.. But with the players we have let or are letting go along with Marlon Kings reported 8k a week we should have a wage structure and finances not to break FFP.. We're still IMO short of a couple of defenders and a linchpin midfielder..

I don't expect nor think we need millions invested to get out of L1 but we certainly need something, the players that are Been released daily by other clubs would certainly be welcomed at the lane by me and would also have a point to prove to former employers..

It would be a massive sign of intent on the part of the board to invest in a player of such potential. We are where we are because of selling good players and replacing them too often with mediocre talent. Time to reverse the trend and th I 'ming, this would be a good pace to start.

Well if it was me, i'd put in a bid in a flash. If i could get him for £1m i'd view that as a bargain, never mind 500k plus extras.
At worst, he could end being a decent championship player. At best he could end up being worth £10m.
At 500k to £1m it's a no-brainer to me.

I hope we're being coy to try to not alert other clubs, cos it seems we aren't interested in stumping up the dough.

We could always waste a fortune on fees and wages over the next three years on no end of crap players in Coady's position that we eventually offload to a non league club for nothing.
Coady for a million is a steal because we know exactly what we're getting, we know exactly how to use him and the club should know it is a better option than constantly wasting money on loan players and cheap buys that nobody else wants.

We might be able to afford the fee,but his wages might mean we can't bring anyone else in or have to sell if we bring him in. Personally,I think we need to prioritise a centre half and another striker

500K to 1M could still be a bargain IMo especially if he helps us win promotion & then does well in the Champ.

We should be in the driving seat & if it was me i would be offering heavily performance based deals to both Liverpool & Coady

Maybe something like:-

Liverpool 500K upfront
300K on promotion
100k for PFA team of the season
10-20% sell on clause
£7m buy back price

Coady
5-8K per week
2k goal bonus
2K assist bonus
1K appearance bonus
5% of sell on fee
£100K on promotion
£25k on PFA team of the season

Kev, you forgot the Skoda Yeti for his next birthday present. ;)

PS - I think we would be mad not to sign Coady for £500k + performance additions.

I think £1m is a bargain to be honest. For £500k + extras for promotion etc, we'd be absolutely mad not go for him.

While I do feel £1m is too much for him its not a risk as to if he would fit in etc and if he can adapt to the Clough way of playing.
