Gonna be heartbreak for two teams that miss out.
The way these things work is that an outstanding team over the season misses out cruelly on automatic promotion with about 90 points and confidence is shat for the play offs, and some non descript team like Bristol City or the piggy bastards sneak into the last play off spot and end up winning them.
II will be the pigs. They are so lucky when shit it is uncanny. Over the years they have had so many relegation battles when looked certs and always manage to get out of them. Mind if we both go up, next season history shows they will finish above us. They always do in the top tier, we always do in the 2nd tier. Odd but true.

Do I detect a modicum of arrogance in with the ignorance here ?
The implication being we would prefer a ‘dirties’ victory to enhance our automatic promotion ‘chances’ of coming 2nd
My understanding of the table is that even if we lose to Luton we will be at least 2 points above Sun’lun.

‘Hadaway and shite, marra’
A draw to send us 2nd on only goal difference meaning a 1 nil win against Leeds sends us 3 points clear would do me!

Hadn't though about the maths before and naturally wanted a Sunderland win. If we beat Luton we'll be top going into the game and a Sunderland win keeps us top.

But yes, a Leeds win would put Sunderland further off the top two which is I suppose what we want. A draw would be decent too. Sunderland win tightens it all up.
You could argue that if Leeds win and we win, we're then 8 points ahead of Sunderland and only 2 behind Leeds, which would pretty much knock Sunderland out of the autos race...

Clearly I'm not aware of your feelings for Leeds - Sheffield Wednesday - yes I'm well aware of your feelings for them - similar to us and NUFC.

I didnt realise that Leeds were disliked so much by you and thought that you may have been fairly ambivalent towards them.

There are a few reasons why Sheff Utd fans hate Leeds.

1: The unfair Leeds bias both from the national media and local news channels (which are all based in Leeds).
An example is when the Sheffield clubs gain promotion to the Premier league there’s a 5 minute news report about it.
Where as when Leeds are promoted to the Premier league there’s a separate 30 minute promotion special about it…..it’s so bias.

Another example was the 1991 league cup final Sheff Wed v Man Utd on ITV.
Sheff Wed won and literally 3 minutes after the match ended….Yorkshire TV ended the transmission and showed “war of the monster trucks” programme.
Where as in other parts of the country ITV showed the full celebrations interviewing the manager and players etc.

The Wednesday fans complained and Yorkshire TV apologised, we all know if it had been Leeds playing the whole afternoons TV would have been re-arranged
to show the match build up and post matches interviews etc. So it’s a general Sheffield (including Wednesday fans) that have noticed the discrimination.

I’ve noticed the same how the national media have this “love in” towards Newcastle often calling them “a giant of a club”
Where as Sunderland are always understated, classed as this provincial club, down on its times with good support.
If clubs like Bolton or Blackburn drew a crowd of 30K, they would receive massive publicity calling them a huge club etc
Sunderland get 40K every match and the media never bat an eye lid…..they don’t care so there’s little recognition of Sunderland’s fantastic support.

Like Sunderland……on a national level Sheffield doesn’t receive the credit it deserves…..it’s where organised football started.
In the mid 1870’s half the organised clubs (about 60) in the world were based in Sheffield, it’s the 1st place where they had organised league and cup football.
The 1st place ever, where fans were charged money to watch matches. The 1st knock out tournaments well before the FA cup.

Sheffield is the true hot bed of football where as West Yorkshire is a rugby league hotbed.
For example Leeds United were formed over 50 years after Sheffield Wednesday were formed….yes 50 years later.
Until the mid 1960’s Leeds United had no history and poor support..they are an older equivalent of Wigan Ath...a rubgy town that eventually played football.

2: Feeder club for Leeds
The United hatred is stronger than the Sheff Wed hatred because over the decades we’ve had a few big crowd favourites that went to Leeds.
The big one was Tony Currie in the 1970’s, but there’s been Mick Jones, Alex Sabella, Keith Edwards, Brian Deane etc.

3: They generally have an incredibly arrogant dislikable fan base.
Probably different now but I’ve met a few Leeds fans in the 90’s and 00’s and they talked like they are one of the biggest clubs in Europe.
I’ve found that their arrogance and delusions has been astounding, almost shocking.
So when they are struggling I think back to those types of fans and smile thinking it’s karma.

After sleeping on it, I think a home loss might give Leeds fans the jitters. Add some red cards or injuries and they might accomplish their biggest choke yet. We win the league while they drop into the play offs.

People talk about Leeds as though they're invincible but they're only 5 points off 3rd.

At this stage of the season in this sort of a scenatrio I have come to the conclusion that hoping for a result one way or another is a fools errand.

If Sunderland do win, and leeds, as they have a habit of doing, get the jitters, and Sunderland go on a run we could be sat here in 4 weeks with Leeds further behind and Sunderland challenging for the Automatic spots - at that point we may then be hoping the result went t'other way

All we can do is concentrate on beating Luton on Saturday, then whatever the result we are in a better position relative to someone than we are today.

Anyone can be okay in the Prem, all a club has to do is spend money they haven't got. And we all know that this will be their absolute forte.
They have to spend big even if they don't, they will have to convince themselves, and more importantly other people about their "massiveness" because they're such shallow, size envious, deluded twats.

Then they'll go almost bankrupt again, but at least they'll be able to console themselves with the "massive" myth thing for the next 30 years.

Yes, we just have to concentrate on our own business

We have 67 points, and 14 games left.
Normally 8 wins would see us promoted with 91 points. But this year seems different

Last year was different too, Leeds could have got 95 points and still not gone up, that's just nuts.
I think this year is going to be the same, two clubs could end up with over 100 points and someone could miss out with 95 or 96 points

In the frankly ridiculous season when "them lot" didn`t go up with 96 points they had 71 points after 32 games - Plymouth had 68 and Ipswich had 60 and Bolton 59 (albeit they all got to 32 games on different dates because of rearranged fixtures.

Plymouth finished on 101, Ipswich on 98 and "them lot" on 96 - Barnsley eventually finished 4th on 86 with Bolton 5th on 81. Ipswich W12 and D2 of their last 14, whereas Plymouth went at a slightly more leisurely W11 L3 - "them lot" went W7, D4, L3 - a respectable 1.78 points per game - but not enough.

So if anything this season is on target to be even higher (eek) given that the top 4 at the moment have 69, 67, 64 and 62 points.

The view from Sunderland is that we play Leeds on Monday and if we lose and Sheffield United win - the gap between us and you lads is 8 points. Leeds will be miles ahead and for Sunderland it will be play out the rest of the season and see if someone cocks it up near the end. That's all we could do - try and win as many as possible and hope that Leeds famously bottle it or Sheffield United implode. Neither seems likely but you never know.

Sheffield United fans will be tuned in and you'll clearly want Leeds to win, which is understandable. So Monday could be effectively where the season all but ends for us as far as the automatics is concerned - thats how close it is for us. We'd still probably be 14 points clear of 5th so we'd be playing to simply consolidate 4rth in the last 13/14 games, with one eye on the play offs.

However win at Leeds and that puts the cat amongst the pigeons - so Monday is a crucial game with huge ramifications for the whole top 4 and it's our last game this season against the top 3. So Monday will probably and realistically determine whether it's a top 3 for the rest of the season or whether there is still a top 4.
No fucking chance we want leeds to win
I hope you put 5 past them

It's impossible to lose to a dire team such as Luton. The team that nearly and probably deserved to stay in the premiership are in total freefall now. Should have stuck with Rob Edwards, he created unity !

You obviously don’t understand the feeling here. Sheffielders….especially United fans can’t stand Leeds.
Using our heads it’s
1st choice score line…..a draw….so you both drop 2 points
2nd choice A Sunderland win would be hilarious…and would put them under so much pressure for when we play them next week.

Using our heart and passion/ instincts then all Blades will be wanting a Sunderland win….we’d find it absolutely hilarious.

And to be honest if we play like we did tonight….we’ll have a great chance of beating them next week …even if they’re in good form.
We’ve got some excellent individual quality players but not really clicked this season.
Well tonight we actually showed clear signs of clicking….we made Boro look so poor…a clear division below us.
Boro are more than poor. In fact, before I click on reply, Gibson has probably sacked him !

Aye
Whilst I may agree with (most of) your views about Luton , and admire your positivity, I have to wonder what your appraisal of ‘ull (currently 2 points better than “dire) was afore we lost to them 😉

Sunderland win for me. I've watched the Blades since 1970 and I'm so bored with finishing 2nd or losing in the play-offs. I want to see us win this damn league before I leave this mortal coil. 🙂
Yeah, Let’s win the bloody league …Seen so many wanker clubs lift that famous old trophy… Its about time we had a go.

I didn’t know Sunderland were playing Leeds on Monday and doubtful that I’ll be watching. Monday night is like Thursday for football, just a crap day for games to be on TV.

Anyway, I notice your comments are just about Sunderland, Leeds and the Blades, but not Burnley and they just don’t concede let alone lose games.

You play Leeds this week, but we play them the following Monday. There’s likely to be some ups and downs before the season ends and even before Feb is out.
Burnley dre to many game better to win 2 games and lose one than draw 2 games and win one that's Burnley problem

You could argue that if Leeds win and we win, we're then 8 points ahead of Sunderland and only 2 behind Leeds, which would pretty much knock Sunderland out of the autos race...
That's pretty much how I see it.

If Sunderland loses and you lads win I would have to say that it's over as far as automatics go and our last 13 games would be played out accumulating the points for the play offs.

Monday at Elland Road is do or die for SAFC.

Only point I would slightly correct is that there was a Leeds City club formed in the early 1900’s (1904 rings a bell) who the present club sort of replaced after it was dissolved for financial shenanigans. Still well after many other clubs though I would agree.

I can support Sunderland s bid to capture a top 2 spot , Burnley are dead boring and park a fleet of buses , and Leeds fans are all arrogant bar stewards
cant wait for them to stumble , They look down on other clubs and don't respect anyone , bit like the owls

2 red n white striped clubs going up is my preference. best of luck on monday

Financial shenanigans ................. nothing changes in Leeds does it. They had Ridsdale and then Ken Bates to take them into admin robbing creditors only for Bates to become the owner with Leeds city council buying the stadium until they could afford to buy it back. Cloughie was right any thing they ever won was on the back of cheating.

If I knew we would beat Leeds next week I'd hope for a Sunderland win. Leeds losing two in a row would mean everyone could start singing the Falling Apart song
Agree, would still take a draw though!
