He hasn't, he has only responded to questions about him. Not like he has singled him out for special praise.

The way I see it is that this season isn't the time for Whiteman to come in as a first time regular, the odd appearance here and there is fine but being a regular now would ruin him. So we had to play Hammond, next season if nothing changes, fine, sack Adkins, but to me he's done well to start sorting out Clough's mess, next season with more of his own players there are no excuses.

I honestly feel like Adkins wants to go, he's had am absolute nightmare here from the very first game of the season. Add to that the fact that his favourite has been singled out and pilloried and of course i'm talking about Hammond. Now I do Hammond gets a little too much stick, but that's because he happens to symbolise everything that's wrong with Sheffield United at the moment, old, slow and trading on past glory. The way Adkins talks about Hammond is oddly similar to the way a guy will defend a girlfriend who his mates obvious can't stand. Also McCabe's comments in the forum about his signings are catty to say the least, I seriously wouldn't be surprised if he walks after he's told he can't sign Hammond and has to look to the academy, however I also wouldn't be shocked if he signed Hammond and made him captain. Either way it's do or die, this atmosphere is going to linger and grow over the Summer and if a Adkins Sheffield United doesn't hit the ground running in August, we'll have one or two games before a full blown revolt.
 
Keep saying he's learning, learning what exactly ?, how to lose football matches on a regular basis. Sounds like a dead man walking to me.

Spot on DronnieBlade. In the last 30+ years, the only times we've not moaned ss far as i can remember, have been the odd season we've had some form of succes. We are right to be hacked off with our 5th year in this sodding division but I honestly think we are the fans who moan more than any others. Pompey, for example, have been through worse than us over the last 10 years or so and I don't think they moan as much as us.

Personally I don't like slaging the players or manager off at the match and have never done so. What i've done instead is stay away since February because of the tossers on the pitch. If everyone unhappy had stayed away today rather than turning up and moaning, it would have had a much bigger impact IMHO.

Maybe because the man took a pay cut to come here, could be having a tough time and as a result he doesn't want to publicly criticise him.
Given the half time substitution, the comment in the interview and his no show on the parade lap I'm guessing that Hammond hasn't had the best of times recently and criticising him (after all the abuse he gets) would only make things worse.
However, I have heard that he hasn't been too impressed with his performances behind closed doors.

Many mid range clubs from Leicester to Portsmouth, Southampton, Wolves, Birmingham, Forest, Derby, SWFC, Leeds, Sunderland, Middlesbro, have suffered by being relegated to this division and all of them except Portsmouth with their unique circumstances have brushed it aside, dusted themselves off and got on with getting promoted. Just listened to the interview and stunned at the stance Adkins is taking. Pissing the largest part of the 2nd biggest budget in the league on Hammond and not expecting the fans to question his performances??
Also, the bloke is a complete contradiction talking about "pathways" and "endeavour" yet today just summed it up as it lacked both. Talk is very cheap Nigel, take a walk.

Sounds to me like he is on his way as he slagged off the fans on several occasions.

When asked about substitution of Hammond he blocked it by saying he doesn't have to justify his subs to the reporter.
