were they promoted when Hasselbaink left early december

he saw them over the line
Adkins never got near the line
or the play offs

hasselbaink got 42 points clough 43

Hasslebank 41 points in 20 games. Just over 2 points per game. At this rate if he had continued they would have finished on 94 and romped the league as Champions.

Clough 44 points in 26 games 1.69points per game. At this rate over the whole season they would have 77.8 and finished 6th.

Do tell me how this is Clough doing a great job?

and what guarentees can you give theyd have continued in that vein
and even if theyd got 94 points does that means they are more autom, atically promoted than they have been under Clough

give the guy the credit he deserves

hes kept them in the top 2
comparing it to what Adkins has done its fucking epic

you stick up for Adkins and the magnificent 1 point 1 points a game hes done in the same period

you still admit hed have made the play offs , if hed been there all season
isnt that what we wanted to do

but didnt

Taking a Mickey Mouse team to the championship. All the Adkins apologists on here will claim it was Hasselbanks team but if you hadn't gone up they'd have been crowing it was your fault !

Well done Adkins on playing the kids in midfield...oh I forgot you didnt, Hammond , Woolford and Coutts justified your team selection

I really don't understand the dewey eyed fan boys of Nigel Clough.

It's just bizarre.

It's sad to be so obsessed with a second name.

Embarrassing in fact.

No I wont give him any credit. He failed with us and he limped over the line by 1 point on the back of someone elses success. Adkins has failed also.

You wanted him sacked....and went on and on about it...worked out well hasn't it ? Worst league position in how many years? and yes I know its still Cloughs fault

You do yourself no favours with those kind of posts Peter.

Dewey eyed fanboys? Simpletons?

ffs fella, let it go. There are some who rate him, some who don't.

You don't, others do.

You got it wrong, he's not the duck egg you tried to paint him as.

I understand that might be hurtful to accept. He got a club out of League One, something you didn't think he'd do. He did, now let it go.

Except he didn't....

Sorry Cult Of Clough, time to let it go.

Sorry Cult Of Clough, time to let it go.

What do you mean he didn't?

I've even seen a picture on the BBC of him and his "cronies" Garner, Crosby and Taylor with a flag saying "Promoted from League One" with 3500 Burton fans on the pitch celebrating and singing his name.

I'd better tell them they all got it wrong cos the classy, knowledgable Tyler Durden says is didn't happen.

And I couldn't give a flying fook about him or his current football team, not can I understand why anyone would, apart from Brewers fans and his family members.

He left our club with a bloated and mostly rubbish team.

How I would love to be in the playoffs this season with a cup semi under our belts as well. Despite his shortcomings I don't dislike the guy, that's all.

Wow reading some of this makes me shake my head! Sacking Clough was another one of this clubs unbelievably stupid decisions, like it or not he pulled us round when we were in a really bad way and we reached two semi finals and a playoff. Contrast that to this season it has been truly awful and people still blaming Clough 12 months after he left is madness. The team Clough left with a couple of additions should have won promotion at best and at the very least got a playoff place.

This is the weakest league in all the time we have been in and anyone who thinks it is down to Clough that we haven't got in the top 6 needs their head testing. I am not an advocate of sacking managers but this manager has set us back in a way I didn't think possible the club is on its backside and the manager should shoulder the blame.

Tyler I don't understand where all the anger towards fellow Blades comes from, many of us feel that even though Clough had to change it was a stupid decision to sack him. I am also not comfortable with some of the comments made against Wendy last week. Do we really need to stoop that low? To make fun out of a fan who is now disabled for simply supporting another team is pretty low fella. Now I know you will come on and tell me to do one and that fair enough but for me it goes beyond banter.

Fair play he took Burton up and good luck to him just shows how stupid the people running this club are!
Brilliant post ,spot on.

er sorry to bugger you up but I think you will only find the few Clough haters on here who ever mention his Dad. I am talking about Nigel Clough it has nothing to do with his name or family so why bring that into it. His father has been dead for years and its pathetic to bring that into the discussion.

Nor do I, but let's not dress up last season as being anything better than it was, ultimately a failure. Just as this one has been.

Or maybe because he took charge of a club already pissing the league.

It really isn't hard......

You know what Pete it isn't about people loving Clough, everyone to a man knew he made mistakes and he had to put them right. However those mistakes were not bad enough to send us to one of our worse finishes in the clubs history. Clough left poor players you say but those players finished in a higher position in a harder division that Adkins team and that was without the goals of Billy Sharp. To say that Clough didn't deserve a crack at the season is wrong, it seemed to me that fans who wanted Clough gone made it a personal thing, and reading the comments about him now doesn't change my mind

Can people say they think sacking Clough was the wrong decision without being accused of having a lovin with him or being in a "Clough" cult? As much as you think the fans not wanting him sacked was bizarre I think the complete hatred of him his bizarre. Does he really deserve the hatred for the 18 months he was here? Bearing in mind the cup runs we had and the steadying of the shop when we were at rock bottom? Maybe you think it is,

Which is odd because Brian Robson has the better overall record....

ROBSON FOR THE BLADES.

Well he took charge at a club staring at relegation and pushed them up the league, then went on to get to two semi finals and a playoff spot. What I would do to have that now, but never to worry as long as people are happy we got rid of that nasty Mr Clough that's all that matters because we are now in such a great position!! Maybe this manager should be a little tougher on players he doesn't fancy instead of talking complete shit week in and week out.

Yes those exhilarating cup runs under Robson I just cant get out of my memory. (sorry the cup doesn't count does it)

A knowledgeable reasonable fella like you surely wouldn't make stuff up to try to suit your agenda now would they?

He took over a Burton side 2 (TWO) points clear at the top. Pissing the league?

Wigan finished today 2 (two) points ahead of them. Wigan pissed the league. They were a Burton goal away from winning it on goal difference.

I never asked you to be comfortable, you can take or leave what I say.

For a set of fans who killed a Blade in 1993 and a Leeds fan out with his girlfriend 2 years ago....I still insist that they are scum, I feel zero remorse for my remarks.

But this is about something else. If you don't like what I personally have to say, there is a private message function.

Well he actually won two championships in his career, despite being a raging pisshead.

But that's nothing compared to two promotions with Burton 7 years apart.....

Pleeeeease.

It's just not true.

It's all about the name.

Tyler surely you are not naive enough to think that our fans are sweetness and light and all wendy fans are the devil? I dislike them as much as anyone but I certainly wouldn't want to see anyone seriously hurt over the football team they support. And to make fun out of a fan of any team being seriously hurt over steps the mark.

I only brought this up because of your anger towards blades in this thread, I don't see the need to message anyone privately it is an open message board and I am expressing my opinion fair enough it was a little off topic so I will leave it there.

I thought he'd take Burton up as it was handed to him on a plate and he only just about scraped over the line. Ask their fans.

And I didn't call everyone who liked Clough a simpleton.

Ok fair enough.

I don't deny for a second that we have arseholes in our ranks, but then again I don't call Wendy fans out on their shit behaviour whilst ignoring our own. I've seen plenty of Pigs deny their own behaviour whilst slating ours which is utterly hypocritical. Hence my posts about them.

Secondly I have no more anger towards fellow Blades than they have towards me (if any). If I spoke to any of them in person, chnces are we'd get on.

Anyway it's got more heated than it ought to so I'll leave it there.

Give over Pete are you seriously blaming Clough for our current plight? I know you really dislike Clough but the fault of this season lays at the feet of Adkins! Everyone quite rightly blamed Clough for not bringing in a centre half (his biggest mistake), what does Adkins do bring back a player who was quite rightly bombed out and make him our main centre half!! For the way he came in and organised us and the cup runs he deserved to start the season as our manager.
If it isn't personal with Clough and just down to football reasons by your logic you must want rid of Adkins? Woolford Salmon, Hammond and to a lesser extent Edgar have all been far worse signings than any Clough made!

well written - keep it up, but you'll sadly make enemies with some.

I agree that he failed. But in the end he came 1 goal away from getting into the playoff final. This year we are 11th, its comparing chalk and cheese.
