Why on earth did Whiteman play right wing back? The lad has just had a couple of decent promising displays in centre mid & gets shoved into a false position. He will NEVER EVER be an attacking minded player, an essential task as a wing back. He's a central defender/holding midfielder ffs!. A poor decision from Adkins compounded by the fact that Flynn is a natural wide player & filled in for Brayford very well indeed in the past. Why not simply play him there?
Then, when chasing the game, he brings DCL on he ends up in central midfield!!!! WTF? It was crying out for us to go 4-2-4 for last half hour & take the game to them.
Adkins team selections continue to be bizarre. His subs are usually even worse. His continued selection of Hammond is quite remarkable, given that the vast majority of us can see that he is so far of the pace in midfield. It's actually now embarrassing for him to be continually dragged off at the hour mark. He just trundles round the pitch at one pace, not getting anywhere near to close or press opponents, & rolling square passes. Even those sometimes don't get there ( lost possession Southend 2nd goal).
Coutts is similar. Shocking. Ok when he can strut around on a lovely pitch & play short safe passes, but shutting down, winning essential 2nd balls, tackling, tracking runners, doing the 1001 other midfield jobs?.... no chance. Hammond & Coutts are a terrible combination, & to cap it all we have another slow ageing option in Woolford on the bench. It's laughable really, but the jokes on us & it's not funny anymore.
Time for managerial change please.
