What strange tactics the team seem to use at that time.
Move the ball quickly, get it into the box at the first opportunity and get bodies in there.
Add 100% effort from all the squad.

Way too complicated innit?

Brian Deane and Tony Agana, bipperty bopperty, boo. Put em together and what do get. . . . Back up to di-vis-ion 2

Bet no one on the staff had one of them fancy EUFA badges thingies.

One thing that stood out about Bassett is the standards he held the players too, even when we won he wasn't happy, still demanding more and telling them what they should have done better. Yeah a coach/manager needs to give positive reinforcement, but the players knew they had to do extremely well to get his praise.

Imagine Adkins in the dressing room after last night!?? "Brilliant performance lads, don't worry, we've still got a change of the play offs if you keep playing like that, great game for us"

My first proper season watching United aged 10. Quick tempo, hard work, plenty of crosses into the box with players that played without fear and enjoyed playing for the club. Yes, it was long ball, but even now I'd prefer to watch that style rather than modern day game that involves hundreds of sideways and backwards passes, generally slow paced and boring.

Its funny how Leicester are getting plaudits of how they play atm. Their group of players, the way they play and set up reminds of the early Bassett era. Two big no nonsense centre backs, Two quick direct wingers that hard up and down, box to box midfielders and strikers with pace who are willing to chase everything and unsettle the opponents back 4.

Kilner's 'tash :D

...and that Jumper

Mond you it might look good around McNulty's shoulders

The last time we were in this division.

Many thanks for posting this brought some great memories back, I used to watch this video every Saturday while my Uncle was getting ready to take me to the lane or on Friday nights when I stayed at his to get up for an away game.

I think season 88/89 often gets overlooked as a great achievement because of what we went onto do the season after.

But this in itself was a fantastic feat after the previous seasons drop and gave us Blades some hope back, we dished out some almighty thumpings along the way - when we played Northampton that Tuesday night in September it was a top of the table clash and we thumped them 4-0!!! We also hammered Top flight Newcastle at the lane and brushed Bull and Wolves aside with ease.

Some things never change though that season we lost to all 4 relegated clubs and Southend/Chessie did the double over us.
