Just googled. Stockport had two Paul Williams at same time and Deadbat 's photo isnt the same Paul Williams that played for us

Agree with that, makes Connor Sammon look like Ibrahimovic.

Bobby Gould signed him for West Bromwich for a ludicrous £250,000 from Stockport County, there were 2 Paul Williams there at the time, story goes they signed the wrong one, after scouting the other.

Williams was the worst player I've ever seen play for United (I never saw Lee Baxter, who must have been worse). He was supposedly a nice bloke.

There were indeed 2 Paul Williamses at Stockport when Gould signed him, and I have seen the "wrong man" rumour on the net. Mind you, as unlikely as it may seem, Williams had scored 14 goals in 24 games, so there was some logic in signing him if you just looked at his record.

Incredibly Williams won a cap for Northern Ireland, as a sub against the Faroes in 1991. NI drew 1-1.

The other odd trivia about Williams is his mother won the Nobel Peace Prize in the 1970s - she was a peace campaigner during the Troubles.
