I agree we need that type of person ,Warnock saw first hand what he did ,however I would put the start of our decline coinciding more with Warnock leaving than Dooley. Kenworthy says a lot of things about Dooley in his book ,lets say he wasn't his favourite person .

He obviously did a good job and was a very knowledgable connection between the manager and the muppet board members.

During his tenure as managing director and chairman he was part of a team that oversaw two promotions to the top flight and also two very stable and consistent times in the clubs history under Bassett and Warnock.

No coincidence that since he left and wasn't adequately replaced there have been some awful decisions made at board room level.

The perfect guy to do a Dooley esq job would be Warnock. And that's not a 'Bladey' reason as some would say. We need someone with tremendous experience in the game, someone who knows what it's like to operate on a smaller budget, someone who has got a good eye for a player and a lot of contacts, someone who has experience of promotion and at all levels of the game and finally someone who is at the very end of his career management wise. If he's a blade and knows the expectation of our fans then that's a bonus.

The perfect candidate is Warnock.

Our demise is entirely linked to the loss of Warnock, coupled by the drive to reject the things that had brought us success. Not only did we have to win, we had to do it in a certain way (ethos, youth, "playing the right way")..

We've been failing on all counts ever since , but there are still huge sections of the fan base who haven't grasped it.

He did, but I'd be fairly confident that the cost of the team that Blackwell managed, in terms of value and wages, was still far, far greater than the one Warnock got promoted.

I'd bet Blackwell's teams wage bill was double Warnock's promotion team. It went up significantly in the Premier League, obviously. Then it went ballistic under Robson, though to be fair to Blackwell he was managing it downwards, which is difficult.

Slightly/ in fact much better manager in fact. Their team was not better than ours. Study the line-ups, it's very clear.

What strikes me at this late stage is the sudden lauding of Dooley who never, ever struck me as a key figure during the years he was here, more a calming, steady eddie. Maybe that's worth a lot but FGS on his salary many people could be steady-eddies, just agreeing with the owners.

I've no problem with ex-S6'ers coming over to the bright side, but I never heard Dooley say anything I learned from.

I sponsored Brian Gayle through my company one year and paid up front for it ( £500 which was quite a bit then). Anyway towards the end of the season I got a letter from Utd demanding payment ,I contacted them and told them it had been paid. Couple of weeks later stronger letters came and then my 'debt' was passed on to a collection agency who threatened bailiffs if I didn't pay within days. I wrote to the board of directors explaining the situation ,that I was a Blade of 20 odd years etc etc , my biggest client of the time was Irwin Mitchell who were much smaller then ,and a lawyer I was friendly with gave a trainee a challenge to sort it out with no fee for me. Never heard another thing from Utd ,no apology , nothing ,it turned out Paul woolhouse had set up a bank account in the name of Sheff Utd and had stolen loads including my cheque before disappearing and Utd were of course embarrassed about it. My season ticket the following season was bought semi reluctantly but Im a Blade and Woolhouse was a crook ,the board and employees of Utd are temporary but supporters are permanent and that's why I cant agree with Dooley or anyone else swapping their allegiance.
