Sammon would probably play really well for Warnock ,because he would be played properly.

What you see is what you get with Warnock and it does rub off on the players .

Will we get the same from Adkins next season . As a safety net I would get Warnock in at the end of the season , even if I had to eat a big piece of humble pie if I was called McCabe. Adkins no doubt would have some say , but he hasn't covered himself in glory for his options to be taken as gospel.

Warnock does seem to have that Midas touch for clubs and players alike.

I've always been a fan of Warnock, but let's not pretend all the forwards he signed worked out. Horsfield, Hayles, Onuora, Shelton immediately spring to mind. We have lots of memories of strikers that turned out brilliantly for us under him, but he did sign about 80.

I still believe Adkins would be a success anywhere else in this division.

Why? What have you seen from Adkins this season to support this? Most supporters thought he was a good appointment but what have you seen that suggests he would be a success at Walsall or Bradford or Fleetwood?

The board and the players between them have made his job almost impossible.

How has the Board made his job "almost impossible?"

Does your reference to "the players" include the ones he signed?

He took two clubs out of this league and upwards. Clubs from two ends of the spectrum: An unfancied, permanently struggling Scunthorpe and a fairly big, well supported club in Southampton. He's no mug, and nobody just stops being a good manager.
The playing staff at United are the biggest bunch of nomarks ever to grace the club, many of whom were here before him. Blaming Nigel Adkins alone for the clubs current situation is ridiculously short-sighted.

Much as I think his formations and especially substitutions are completely bizarre and his motivational cliche ridden pronouncements irritating, I have to bow to the fact that he has a better cv than most and he has been left a crock of shit. Thinking about it TD, I go back 55 years with United and this is the first team and players that I have actually hated and wanted rid of. That is a BAD state of affairs. As for Warnock, he made a complete abortion of the premiership season but I think would have got us back. I'd have him back now in this division.

Do you deny he is doing a shocking job ,and what foundations do you think he has laid for next season ?

Agreed, as is absolving Adkins of all responsibility for a disastrous season to date.

And I'm still curious re your Board comment?

Snowman , 55 years with me watching the Blades . Just having my tea and was thinking how much contempt I have for the Blades team , which is someway spilling over on to Adkins , because I keep thinking to myself , surely it can't be 100% players who are creating this.

Warnock era . That was then this is now . Not much has changed , it's still all about being entertained and winning football matches .

Something that both are lost on us , and we are forgetting or don't even know what our identity is any more .

Warnock couldn't even motivate this team. They're scumbags who have no respect for the manager, the club, the fans or the game.
When we get rid of them I hope they carry on failing, I've never hated a United team before this one.

It pains me to say this but I agree 100%, the lot can be unemployed and struggle to get a job next season for all I care.

He's doing the sort of job I'd expect to see from having the worst players in 35 years, zero ammunition for the transfer market, a crippling wage bill and being unable to offload the bulk of the crap until the summer.
He then has three months to lay down those foundations, until then I'm going to refrain from heavy criticism and knee-jerk responses.

Really. You forget most of them got to a cup semi-final last year and the play offs. I suggest the problem lies elsewhere.

Why? It's almost a consensus that the board have been failing the club for several years.

Cups are an irrelevance, a novelty in our position.
They stumbled to the play-offs on the back of many gutless, negative performances last season. We could still technically do that this season but the players would still be inept arseholes.

6 of one and half a dozen of the other . Thing is only one lot is getting all the shit and blame from the fans . There is a bloke at the lane who is very very lucky still to be in a job , for the only reason we have cocked up sacking managers in the past and the bloke his sitting in a very comfy corner as failure equals success on the financial front , and we may not be able to afford to pay him off.

Tactics and motivation seems to be lacking on all fronts even though the guy can talk for England . The bloke has the benefit of the doubt at the moment , that's all IMO . Nothing more , nothing less.

Indeed. A punch in the bollocks is still a punch in the bollocks, even if you get a Creme Egg after.

I'd expect there is a consensus that the club's strategy has failed since 2006.

I don't believe there is any such consensus that the Board has made Adkins' job "almost impossible." Hence my question.

Like you, I'm still hoping beyond hope that Adkins can turn things round but recruitment decisions, team set-up and substitutions give cause for concern.

You cant say that its ridiculous ,cups and play offs are all we can play for. He has also acquired probably the most expensive player in the league and the highest paid ,plus 3 other very well paid players and some highly paid ,experienced players already here.
I don't know if you have been to the last 6 games ,but it is probably the worst I can ever remember Utd ,and ive had a season ticket since 1970. I see no plans in place for next season or after that.
I think the man is a total disaster for Utd no matter what he has done anywhere else before.

I can see the very real nightmare scenario of Adkins getting sacked/resigning, succeeding wherever else he goes next, and the next manager we get having to contend with the utter shambles this club is right now. And the process repeats itself indefinitely.
This pattern has to stop, he needs the summer and first three months of next season to assemble a team that can be called his. Then any criticism can be truly justified.

The fact that the board are a joke doesn't alter the fact that Adkins is making a right mess of the job. I don't know what the answer is, but i'm pretty sure it's not Adkins. Playing everybody out of position, alienating the entire squad and signing a load of old duffers gives me no confidence whatsoever in him. He clearly can't motivate players, we need somebody who can. I admit that when Warnock got the sack, i thought 'good'. I didn't think he could take us to the next level and i still don't. Obviously what i didn't know at the time, was McCabe would appoint a complete prat and within however many years it is, we would be nearer division 4 than the premier league. I'd take Warnock back tomorrow, he would be ideal for the mess we are in, it's what he's made a career out of. But there's no way that is going to happen. McCabe would rather appoint Kim Wrong 'Un than Warnock.

We don't need someone who will only do it for a year.

We need the new improved Warnock, Mr Wilder.

The problem with Warnock being DoF is that the players know it's really him in charge and they can do what they like because Warnock would take over. Needs one boss only, especially in the position we are in.
