Just a thought with the impending clear out of players, lets say we are left with a core squad of around 10/12 including the best from the under 21s. Maybe next year we will work from a much smaller pool, say 20/22 + the odd academy/development player that rises to the first team scene.

So maybe it would be a good idea to loan (right now til the season ends) a couple of premier league reserve players or similar, young lads that might not been getting time at their clubs and would probably be available to buy if they showed the right qualities. ( clubs like barnsley, doncaster etc seem to be able to find the talent.)

Then maybe we could hit the grond running pre season, with the additional free transfer, loan or maybe fee paid deals from in and around league's 1 and 2.

Personally I wouldn't bring them into this poisonous situation, look at baptste.. Got hammered already... I didn't go btw.... But by all accounts he didn't save the club in an instant.... As some expect.

Not really sure Adkins has the right players in mind to sign in the summer.. Or weather mcabe won't sack him.... Clough outperformed him, mcabe sacked him without a care... Dark confusing days..

We've already done that with the signing of Baptiste. If Boro go up and he proves he's over his injury he could well sign.

But Is he the right type of player?

In general every poster on here is of the opinion that we need to get the best younger players available from our opposing league one teams, and I know we've got a few prospects in the under 21s to add a bit more youth and ambition into the mix, who's the giant centre half I saw last week (semple) will we see him get a chance.. Who knows, I'm all for youth and experience like when we had Allison and mcall but we've seen too many older players who don't seem to want to push on, settling for a steady end to a long career.... We don't need them, we need players who still have a point to prove and something to offer...

Its all about getting the right blend of youth and experience. I think the majority will be young players. The majority of those out of contract are at the older end of the scale which is good. I prefer the spine players to be the more experienced ones and Baptiste will fit into this. Budgets will depend on the level of the Prince's involvement.

If it is true and bad as it's been made out at the Lane , then word does get around regarding dressing room splits , poisonous situations . Any club would not want its young players going on loan to a club in apparent disaray , which would not help the players professional development. Different kettle of fish with older more experienced players like Baptiste who will have got the tee shirt , been there , done it.

Adkins seems to be building a team around experienced model professionals as Sharp , Hammond , even Baptiste , who command respect in the game and will allow clubs to send there future starlets to play in a good run club .
That is why MK Dons and Robinson attracted certain players . We are now building to do the same , and Adkins is the man for this blue print .

When I saw this article's title, the first thing I did was to check the date.

It's not April 1st, let's crack on, shall we?

I doubt it since they paid 2 million quid for him last summer. If they're going to let him go they'll likely want at least £1.5 for him. Even by Adkins standards he surely couldn't justify spending that on a player who turns 31 next season based on a handful of appearances following a long injury

Adkins has been trying to get young player on loan since the summer and has been thwarted when trying to get Teixiera and Kent
(Liverpool) and Jacob Murphy (Coventry). Our club is not seen as a conducive environment for developing young players. He's after a midfielder from Norwich, but this may not happen until the summer ((if at all).

Not necessarily a permanent deal. There's not much ventured and potentially a lot to gain.

Fair point, as long as he's not on crazy wages. Although the fact that Bolton were so keen to offload one of their star players, firstly on loan and then permanently, suggests that he probably is.

Baptiste seems to be a similar situation to Whispering Bob, he's here for a month to see what's what. Both have a recall clause after one month and the Boro manager has hinted that he may return for the last month or so.

Bob has been sub for last two Fleetwood games and presuming he's out of the picture tomorrow, he's not getting any game time.

Its encouraging to here these are the types of player on the radar, not just players who seem on the way down.
I understand that a blend of the two is needed, hopefully this kind of recruitment can be achieved.

Were not paying crazy wages to land him now. If we had too to get him on a season long loan who knows? A point worth mentioning though is that Bolton signed him from Blackpool who aren't renowned for paying big wages. Unless big wage rises happened at Bolton or Boro he's unlikely to be that highly paid for a championship CB? Its all guess work though. If United don't drastically reduce their wage threshold there'd probably be scope anyway, once we offload.

Perish the thought. If we had anybody scouting out there, we could have had Sam Clucas from Chesterfield last July for around £1m. He's now valued at £2.5-3m. Loans? Callum Connolly has joined League One side Barnsley on loan from Everton.

The England youth international is the latest Everton youngster to gain senior experience in the Football League.

He joins Conor McAleny (Wigan Athletic), David Henen (Fleetwood Town) and Conor Grant (Doncaster Rovers) in English football’s third tier.

Meanwhile, we get left further behind.

More astute management eh ? Loan him out to get game time ,he gets none. We play the most expensive player in the league out of position at left back while Harris plays on the beach.

Worrying. But fully understandable.

Not very encouraging from the summer rebuild point of view too. Especially given that various "troublemakers" are still going to be in place on generous contracts. The environment isn't going to become conducive all of a sudden.

At least it shows there's probably no way forward with him, same with Wallace. Cuvelier next I guess.

I agree on Harris and Wallace (J) but Cuvelier looks like he's very much part of Adkins' plans. He's been involved in every game since he finished his rehab though the U21s. If he plays for the last 12 games without missing any through injury I can see him getting offered an extension.

That's a big 'if' but yes, if he manages to get through to the end of the season playing the majority of the games and performs. The fact he hasn't made 50 starts yet in over 4 years as a pro says it all unfortunately.

boro payed 2 million at the beginning of the year for baptste so he cant be that shit

Where has the £2M fee information come from? According to this article he joined Boro as a free agent having been released by Bolton:-

It's funny but every time I read a comment mentioning a players high salary or expensive contract I imagine the poster as spotty little checkout cashier at Tescos.

For next season I think the likes of Ikpeazu, Innis, Anderson, Kent etc. could all potentially be interesting signings for us. Young players not ready to step up for their PL parent clubs. Perhaps some will be let go. I wanted Ben Pearson last summer but he's gone to Preston now in Jan after being on loan at Barnsley. They did the same with Daniel Johnson. Swindon also did it with Byrne and we did with Blackman.

According to wikipedia, Bolton got him on a free then he spent last season on loan at Blackburn. If they got £2m for a cast off they signed for nothing, they must be better at finances than their recent plight suggests.

If he's contemplating building a team around a spine of Baptiste and Hammond then I'm very worried
One of the reasons Hammond gets flak is because he has crap around him.
He is an unfashionable ball winner then lets the others do the business.
Doyle had the same problems.
Watched Adams on Tuesday did not have a clue and has been like that for weeks. Sharp has tried to be target man and try to do too much because Adams not doing it. Not got a mention.
People taking the piss out of Baptiste before he has even settled in need to stop playing team manager and live in the real world. No wonder we dont sign players. Would you sign knowing you were going to get flak before even kicking a ball. This club is becoming a poisened chalice.
