Just noticed that not only are we 4 points off a play off spot but just 11 points off automatic. I know it seems unlikely and I should banish any such delusional thoughts right out of my head but there`s this little niggly thing in the back of my head saying " Soft lad, you`re a Blade ".

Just a thought that`s all.. :tumbleweed:

I expect Wigan to overtake Burton and become Champions so in reality we're chasing Burton who at the moment are 15 points ahead. Only a 100% record for the rest of the season will give us any chance of the top two.

I'll settle for a couple of exciting loan signings and a bit of momentum into the play-offs which let's face it, would make a change.

If we were half the team we should've been this season top two would still be a possibility.

Yes.....go and stand in the corner with you're back to the rest of the forum.

We've more chance of being overtaken by Scunthorpe and Bury than getting automatic. How depressing is that?

It's ridiculous when you see that we've dropped 11 points to the current bottom 4. Add those in and we're bang in the mix for autos.

It is possibly an indication of how bad this league is when you look at our results:

We could easily have held on for an extra three five seconds against the Dingles (and taken numerous other chances to go 2 0 up)
Scougall should have scored his near open goal at Oldham.
We should have got at least a point against Colchester at home (missed pens/chances)
How we got 0 points from Peterborough and Millwall (probably our best two home performances)

Point is, and I know you can always say if and but for any season, but these examples are not outlandish things, just if tiny things had been done better or gone our way, we could easily be 8 points better off at least (probably should be) and right in the mix. And we have been absolutely shit. Can you imagine if we could have had Danny Wilson's 1st season team in this particular division. Wouldn't have mattered about Ched as we'd be champions already!

It's is incredible how we are still within touching distance. Despite having such an erratic season, we really do have a chance to make the playoffs.

And after many play off disappointments with reasonably strong teams, maybe this time we limp into them and fluke some good results. One or two inspired loans could make all the difference.

IMO the fat lady has laryngitis and isn't sure that she is fit to sing just yet.

On the other hand, we could and probably should have lost at home to Coventry. Scunny missed a sitter to equalise. Wigan let us back from 3 down. We were lucky to win at Colchester.

I think we've seen this season that we're much of a muchness with the rest of the division. Some games we edge though, in others we are edged out. Wigan have more quality but have taken a while to find their feet. Coventry have some quality but lack a physical edge. The likes of Gillingham, Burton and Wallsall have found systems that are effective for getting the best out of what they have.

We've only had two winning streaks this season. We won four in a row in August and three in a row in December. Apart from that we've failed to win two consecutive matches all season.

We've also only won one match against the top seven - Coventry at home. And one match against the bottom four - Colchester away.

To sum up, we're excellent against mediocre teams but struggle against good teams and shit teams.

Funny, that. After Port Vale last week I was thinking maybe our luck has turned and we could do it.

Then I remembered we're away at Rochdale on Saturday...

I don't understand why that makes it a bad league ,everyone is still playing for the same amount of points from the get go (soz).
Regarding still chasing the dream ,2 years ago we were about 50 points off the play off with 4 games to and some thought we would make it :)

We always do well at Rochdale ,be a bit poignant for me this year ,last time I saw Shred was just before the game last year.

We've got 14 games to play and to catch up we'd have to win four more games than Wigan.
That means if Wigan lose half of their remaining games we still have to win 11 of our last 14.

Because some people think there's a direct correlation between size and quality. Therefore, if Charlton and Pigs are in the league, it's better quality than if 'shit little clubs' like Gillingham are at the top.
I don't subscribe to this view.

Precisely. It's regarded (by us) as a "shit league" because we are in it. In effect it's crappy old Division 3 whether were are here or not. Of course it's not so crap if you happen to support Morecambe or York.

I kind of meant in terms of standard. I get that whatever the season is you have the same number of points to play for, but the competition level is different.

We have been crap for much of the season yet we are still in with a good shout of promotion and as above could easily be right up there in the mix. I think the league had much better teams with much better players 5 years ago - my opinion of course.

I still think we'll finish 6th - and it wouldn't surprise me if we finish above one of Walsall or Gillingham.

Agree with all that ,I was apologising for 'get go ' :) hate that.
That must mean the teams at the bottom must finish with higher points than usual mustn't it ? Are we safe yet ?

Ya never know - 3-5-2 might turn us into raging, unconquerable beasts

...

... and there again, it very well might not :(

ala England at Italia 90

Worked a treat then. Seemed to work perfectly for the players available (two smallish guys up front, releasing Gazza to do his stuff, Platt as goalscoring midfielder, Mark Wright as the classy big man in the middle of the back three). Who knows? - maybe we've hit on a Third Division version? (And Brizzle proved it can work down here.)

If we do reach the play offs it will be the first time we go in with momentum and that is a vital factor, teams with a late surge quite often
go all the way

Likewise Sitters, ..............its exactly a year ago today when we played Rochdale

I don't think the players were much better four years ago. Just my opinion obviously but I think we'll look back in a couple of years and they'll be as many from L1 who've moved to higher divisions as there has been over the last few seasons.

In fact, during the sad years we've been down here, I think L1 is a better standard than it ever has been (as are the leagues above) in terms of technique.

The corner was crowded so I`ve come back. I couldn't even see the corner for that matter. It was " Chocka "

I think the one before was the last time we saw Ched wasn't it ?

Last away game. Scored in the next home game against Orient making it 10 goals in seven consecutive games.

5-2, that night....what we would do for that now.
