I'm gonna hop in here without reading the rest of the thread. Coz I'm a dick.

How did DCL play?

There seems to be a trend for slating your players if they don't look like world beaters immediately. I remember being far from impressed with Jags and Tongue etc. when they first came in to the first team. However they got better and better with every season.

I think we need to lower our expectations as fans... Unlike people at the end of their careers youngsters will develop rapidly and could be potential stars.

The problem at the lane at the minute is that apart from a couple who do they have to look up to?

I honestly thought we would lose today.
Adkins changed it round couldn't believe the line up that started .
Bit more pace today they seemed like they wanted it .
Credit to the manager.
I'm happy tonight

Glad someone is, after reading this thread I give up on half the muppets on this site. We have been crying out for midfielders who can pick a pass and make space with strikers who can make runs.

If people don't see an improvement and hope for the future (yes just a little) then I think you should give this football malarkey up.

That shows a clear lack of understanding of my entire point. It wasn't even a criticism, because as you say we won I've praised the team on the whole for that. It was a separate point about the team and thus the scoreline not being as good as it could've been. As I've said also, not that it matters too much as a win's a win, but if we'd have drawn that or lost, a better team could have been the difference between the points.

That all sounds reasonable...only problem being I am unable to find where you "praised the team on the whole"

Or said "it doesn't matter too much as a wins a win"

In any of the Donny match threads?

I'm sure they're in there someone if you'd like to link to them?

All I seem able to find is the usual stream of negativity and attacks on Adkins..?

Barney! Please, please stop digging. Think about what you are saying, it goes along the lines of, we won, but had we lost or drawn then the selection of a different team would have been the difference between drawing or losing (which we didn't actually do?).

So you not only want to change what happened to suit your Adkins bashing, namely the team selection but want to change the win into a draw or loss to suit your argument that we could have won (which we did!). Its complete nonsense and you know it.

How's Auntie Barneys bollocks? It sounds like they are now talking for you.o_O

That isn't what Barney was saying yesterday on Shoutbox. Then he was saying that winning's all well and good, but if Adkins had picked a different team, we could have won by a lot more. Happy to clarify on Barney's behalf.

Decent thread degenerated into a bickering debate. There are enough debaters on here to do it en-mas. A bunch of massdebaters.

Look at a thread on youth players
'It has lots of comments so must have some good opinions and views on how the young lads played yesterday'
Nope. Mr Barney and his argument friends.

another thread that been Barney'd zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

If Sammon had put in an identical performance to Calvert-Lewin today, he would be getting hammered on here.
Thought he did ok, but let's be realistic.

Difference is though than DCL is a young lad making his first ever start for United; Sammon's an Irish international.

You look at one & you see a potential upward curve of progress; you look at the other &... well, let's not be cruel...

Calvert Lewin to me is the brightest prospect
hes becoming a model professional
sent out on loan to learn about the muck and nettles bit of the game he got his head down grafted , and most importantly listened to learn from those with greater knowledge
These sort of players will be the basis of our future,
Footballers can have all the talent in the world but without the graft they will always be peripheral to the game, without putting in a shift they remain ordinary
This lad has the right ethic

when I said dont play with fear Im referring to our play off final appearances where experienced pros have frozen on the day , not ones turned up
these kids might not be as terrified is my thinking

lets face it , cant be more stone like than some displays

You don't have to worry on that score.
These team will absolutely not be contesting a play off final.

frustrated and deflated as I was last Saturday , its not over yet
I refuse to give up on my club

It's called being realistic.
It's nothing to do with belief. As our poor performances are nothing to do with belief.
You can not give in all you like, as you didn't on automatic promotion until very recently, but sensibly, this squad won't achieve anything.

Remember the Rovrum game at Bramall Lane a couple of seasons ago? Absolutely, wholeheartedly, give the bloody kids a go!
Most of those players have now been released and gone on to worse places.

As poor as we are, it's not impossible that we could be worse. We should give young players a chance, if they are good enough. As a slogan by itself, it doesn't work.

Back on topic ;):)

i agree with OP because I was delighted to see us finally try some of the youth & academy players in Reed, Calvert-Lewin, Adams whichever I think is a way to go, as you need legs in this division & also as spurs proved with Harry Kane if you can find a good player in the academy thats more budget that can be spent on other areas. as rumour goes that daniel levy gave spurs manager tim sherwood?? 20m to buy a proven European fwd he kept faith with kane. Budget in league 1 Is as important as the squad
