I can't find the stats, but I remember that West Brom actually committed more fouls than us in that game (surprisingly few on both sides, considering that it was a 'battle').

Not saying it was right or wrong but got your point .it was the fact that they could be bothered ie fight and passion and in general warnocks side if lacking skill would give there whole for the team

Point taken about the need for passion. Not sure how you instil this in a player though. I think the debate is worrying when we focus on whether a player is prepared to wallop an opponent, when, at least for myself, the real problem is the absence of overall quality. I'm not suggesting that we don't have players who aren't capable of raising their game, but they're too few in numbers, and we've bought so poorly, and so often, that I worry if anyone who's paid by the club to identify good players is actually equipped to do this job? We used to be able to attract the likes of Cowans, McGrath, and Speed. Now what we get in their place are players not fit to tie their shoelaces.

It's quality that'll get this club out of the mire it finds itself in, but a little passion would be welcome too.

Looking at the footage, Tracey's red card actually looks a bit harsh. We had three defenders back, so I'm not sure that the ref could be absolutely sure that it was an 'obvious' goalscoring opportunity. Refs are increasingly cautious about the definition these days, so I think that he might have got a yellow if it happened today. I won't try to argue that Santos' red card was harsh...

First time I've heard about journalists scrapping in the press box, and one being so shaken he was unable to file a report. I wonder what Sheffield journos were in there. I can't imagine James Shield steaming in, though Alan Biggs might have.
Ha ha, I doubt Alan Biggs got involved as he is a Chesterfield fan (his wife works in the same floor as me)

The only time you would see the current United players fighting is with the physio after telling them they are fit enough to play

If only our current bunch of no marks had even a quarter of the fight that team had.

‘Let he which hath no stomach for this fight,
Let him depart. His passport shall be made
And crowns for convoy placed in his purse.
For we would not die in that man's company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.’

In other words - pay the fuckers off and build a squad of players who do give a shit.

From memory, Michael Brown didn't play again for a number of weeks (the remainder of the season) because of the injury he sustained ...?

Brown had apparently been playing with an hernia which he aggravated during the match.
He told Warnock he was struggling who said something along the lines of "Well come off if you need to, don't make it worse".
So Brown left the field without first being treated by a physio and Megson accused Warnock of telling him to come off pretending to be injured.

Brown didn't play again that season and had an hernia operation thus ensuring he was fully fit for the glorious 2002-2003 campaign.
Ullathorne also get injured so badly he couldn't continue and also didn't play again that season.

It all sounds perfectly plausible to me but if you believe it or not depends on how much you hate Warnock.

Spot on. Slightly biased Birmingham Mail reporting though. Have little objection to what was said about United as all professionalism went out of the window that day but the Baggies players certainly dished out a fair bit themselves and got away scot free. Michael Brown didn't play again as said but I didn't realise you had to be stretchered off to be injured! We let ourselves down big time that day but the words of Megson riled us further spouting off, a lot without anything to back him up. "Michael Brown wasn't injured". How the fuck would he know?
All this could have been avoided if Johnson had been dealt with in the first place. Accidental elbow my arse

Still remember walking down Shoreham street after the game thinking "what the hell have i just witnessed" ? didn't know whether to laugh or be angry about it. Glad to see the report back up what i thought at the time, that Michael Brown jogged straight down the tunnel after no intervention from a physio, and that Keith Curle was doing his level best to get sent off......a very dodgy 2nd half that was.

Brown missed a few games after though.

I thought it were a reight tackle

Think it was an auto red if goalie handles outside the area.

He did, but i didn't imagine him jogging down the tunnel :) Whether he was genuinely injured i just don't know. It was a very strange day all round !

I think if you're pretending to be injured the last thing you do is nonchalantly jog straight off the pitch.

You would go down giving it the old agonised expression before being reluctantly helped from the pitch with your arm around the physio.

Nade did a fantastic interpretation of the Santos incident:

What do they say Grumpy.......
1. What goes around comes around
2. If you can't take it, don't dish it out

If you pause it at 1;40 you can clearly see Santos's legs either side of the WBA twats standing leg.

How'd he manage that if Santos had taken his leg out?
He'd have to be Dynamo or a diver.

My monies on a diver.

The only thing that'd keep me from the Lane for a long time would be that ginger see u next tuesday getting the gig. Warnock should have had his day in court. It's completely understandable that Santos sought revenge on that tosser, shame Dane never recovered to meet Ainsworth on the pitch.

I'd love to see our current bunch of wankers in that scrap:

Collins would probably swing a foot at someone, miss entirely then blame the nearest cunt to him.

McEveley would go in with a two-footed lunge.....on the referee.

Baxter would be too busy trying to snort the halfway line

Scougall would probably get used as a spitball.

Sammon would attempt a headbutt before getting decked by the smallest man on the pitch

Sharp and Coutts would come charging over to the action but everyone would have already gone home by the time they get there .

And nobody would remember anything Hammond did.....

Fuckin hell ! Sammon putting a challenge in ? you got to be joking ;)

My only objection to Santos' tackle was that he got the wrong leg. If he'd hit Johnsons standing leg he would've broken it easily. Which would be no less than the prick deserved.
The Forest game where Johnson twatted Santos was the first season I started going on a regular basis. The 16 year old me was crying out or Santos to come on vs West Brom to get revenge on the bastard!
