So following your logic we'd have never taken a punt on a gangly striker from 4th Division Doncaster Rovers in summer 88.
I remember seeing him score for Doncaster against Chesterfield in January 1988! When I read the papers that we had signed him I thought "he looked good at Saltergate!".

Nice to see Clough's Brewers droop continuing and Burton losing once of their best players to QPR.

Are you sure about that?

Come end of season - Blades 6th, Burton 3rd ??

or even worse - a date at you know where on may 29th?

absolute torture - let them finish 1st or 2nd, as they won't finish 7th or below.

UTB

I'd hate to play Clough in a cup game. If there's one thing he can do its get his team in 'cup mode' and gets the very best out of them for 90 mins. His style is perfect, defensive and pacy counter attack. He just can't do it over the full course of the season because he can't man manage.

He's never won a playoff semi. I know what your saying, but he'd be just as nervous as us. Psychologically Burton dropping from 1st into playoffs and us sneaking in would be a huge factor too.

We also only won one in the last month, Is Dean Hammond going to gain two yards of pace for the run in? Is Chris Basham going to contribute a dozen goals from midfield? Is Sammon going to be the powerful leader of the line we so desperately need? Is Woolford going to turn into a quality creative winger.

Those are the things what need to happen if we aren't going to sign anyone.

True. In this shockingly-bad division, we're relying on too many 'what ifs?'

What if we sign a game-changer (no, not you, Prince) such as Sam Winnall? (Not a chance. He'd cost ca. £1m and we can't afford it. However we can afford another season at this level with the attendant dip in ST sales, apparently).
What if teams above us implode? (Some are showing signs of doing that. Teams like Barnsley are waiting to replace them.)
What if we scrape into the play-offs? (Even if we did, would this bunch of players be capable of seeing off the kind of in-form team that have secured their place in the POs, rather than limping over the line?)
What if, by some chance we get to the final at Wembley? (I think we all know the answer to that).

It's all wishful thinking. Wigan are showing how it's done - by not relying on other factors and just going for it.

why not
who saw barnsley going on this run , we just got to time clicking just right

I could be miserable and gloomy , but what joy is there in that
have a bit of hope ,, its free
No it isn't.
The payback comes in April or May every season :o

that was poignant last night
reminding me derby were top of the championship with 13 games left , but didnt even make the play offs last season - shows theres a long long long way to go

That's right. Bury (in 15th) could be two points behind us if they win their game in hand and then overtake us if they win the rescheduled game postponed yesterday.

We could slide spectacularly just like Derby if we continue to chuck away points a la Swindon and Blackpool as we have no quality to affect the game (except to spoil one with a totally defensive display) - in four weeks time we could be 15th - a situation more probable than us going on a run like Barnsley's

Barnsley's run has also coincided with them getting some of their better players back from injury (Winall for one) - we have nothing in the wings (dual meaning there) to have the same effect.

Our only chance of affecting the situation is to bring more quality in by the time the JTW closes.

Don't be holding yer breath BTL
You'll be turning purple with hope.

We all knew you'd have seen him Silent and what date.

Bet you even know what time Deane put pen to paper for us. :)

got a point more than gillingham got there
slide spectacularly
a team thats lost once in the last 10

why do some blades look for the worst in everything

yes we could slide or just as easily like barnsley did win 6 straight after being garbage
theyve shown form in this league can change in an instant

not desperate just stating reality
many a play offs gone to penalties
and has the best team always won
hartlepool outplayed the pigs , up to the dive for the penalty and daft red card
extremely shit side went up that year
only stayed up 2 seasons

To state reality, you'd need to live on this planet, which you clearly don't.

So your saying we have to be looking to be playing silky sexy football to charge through the play offs
do it in style
no teams ever battled through one

let me know when your tardis returns

Do we look like a team that is going to win 6 on the bounce. There is no positive attitude of play it's score 1 and hope we can hold on.
No way you do that for 6 matches.

No, I'm pointing out that you live in cloud cuckoo land.

Are you chicken licken?

did Barnsley

which is the point

what bit of fortunes change dont you get
From what I've heard Barnsley where playing quite well but weren't getting any luck. Then they invested in a bit of quality Hammil etc and things began change.
Are we playing well and losing ?
Where is the fresh impetus of quality signings.
No we are not going to win 6 on the bounce!

Realism.

Apart from Sharp and Brayford we have a team of very slow very poor players. I would suggest None of the other Play off candidates would take any but those two infront of any of their players.

If we had really gone for it and signed four quality players in this window then I could summon up some optimism for the run in, but if we did scrape a play off spot with this team it would be to no avail cos they just aren't good enough, that's just a fact.
Realism is a Very sticky wicket,a mailable greasy pole of perceptions
Some people believe in God for christs sake!
The 'realist' often uses facts but facts can be interpreted accordingly to suite criterias, agendas and expectation. You can't deny a fact but you can argue forever about it's signifance or gravitas and consequence and that is why forums
like this exist.

we cant get near that

This article says we were also interested in Whitehead: http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2015/12/01/interest-mounts-in-former-west-ham-starlet-danny-whitehead/

its our long term injuries getting more match fit with every game and only losing 1 in 10

you heard barnsley were playing well
they lost at home to the likes shrewsbury and crewe ,,,,,, sound familiar
and we are still above them

admit it good runs come out of the blue
teams click

I dont understand blades , supposed blades fan that can see no positives at all, in anything
theres fans of every club below us that have belief they can squeeze in the play offs
but some of ours cant
I just dont get this

If wednesday were playing shit and were 8th in the table , theyd still be saying theyd have a chance of automatic, at least they try and believe
our fans who cant see us having any chance are worse than owls fans

United fans are realists
Your more like the truffle hunters over on porktalk youre always ridiculing , living in some utopian universe where one win suddenly erases years of shitness

they do realise though no matter how shit youve been , if your a point or 2 off the play offs , it is possible
not a cats hells chance like some say

for a fan to just give up,
what do we say if players dont try
your not fit to wear the shirt

surely its the same for fans
its very hyopcritical to slag off players for not believing then practising it

Of course i do ive been saying all season we will make the play offs
Were shit but this division is fucking awful

Ridiculous the players are paid to perform the comments of the fans are a reflection of the teams performance

surely its the same for fans
stop talking shit[/QUOTE]

thats what my argument is
we can get in the play offs being average, in a bad league
we arent a good side
thought everyone knew that, but neither are the other 23
76 points should definitely see a play off berth so we need 35 or 36 points out of 54
dont have to be brazil at their best in this league to do that

no chance , even more positive after todays results

shows theres a long long long way to go
You forget tho that they had the managerial genius of Steve McClaren to achieve that amazing feat!
