What Sammon Brings

Sammon may have had the odd game where he has been an asset to the side, but good performances from him are very infrequent.
The position he plays and his link up play with Sharp is pivotal to the success of the team, consequently he has to be on his game week in week out, absolutely no excuses, this is League One!
Sadly he's been unable to maintain any level of consistent performance, he needs to go back to Derby and finding his replacement should be a priority if we want to hang on to any hope of the play offs

1) Across his man at the front post - no-one ever does this Keith do they? - just wide.

2) Well timed and placed lay off for a good shot on target. This is a real strength.

3a) After a good move down the right controls a difficult bouncing ball with his back to goal...

3b) ...turns and shoots low. Keeper makes a good save.

4. Covering on the edge of the box - defending as a team.

5) Chests it off to Coutts who doesn't get there. Sammon has a, er, paddy, and we end up defending. For me this illustrates a few things:
  • ball easier to control off the chest in these situations - and that's what he does (but he didn't head it so he should be slagged off)
  • if these two play together more, hopefully they'll work each other out
  • not defending high up the pitch - even for a split second - can result in pressure, shows how switched on the front players have to be. It's a team game.

6) The best move on the highlights till the non-finish: played into Sammon, cushioned lay off to Che, Che passes out to JCR, JCR passes to their keeper.

All this in two minutes of highlights and apparently he should have had a penalty.

What a player ;)

You have an unhealthy obsession with shit football players.

Could someone put a compilation of all the sitters he's missed this season together accompanied by the Tina Turner's 'Simply the Best' please?

Come on, against Bradford 10 seconds before half time the sitter he missed was easier to miss! Oh which is what he did.

If Sammon is what we have to unlock defences then we all know which Division we will be in next season.

Anyway I thought Sammon looked pretty decent on the highlights: involved in all our play that made it into the package.

Having been to the game I didn't bother looking at the highlights because I didn't think there were any, but having seen this post, I thought I'd take a look and it does indeed appear that Sammon had a decent game.

However for most of the game he did his usual trying to control the ball on his chest and invariably misjudging the flight of the ball and the defender behind him clearing it with little or no challenge.

It seemed to me that after Adams came on he changed tactic and started trying to flick the ball on with some success, and I couldn't really understand why he didn't attempt this when Sharp was alongside?

Shocking miss but I've seen plenty do the same. He wasn't that bad second half against Bradford and scored, despite playing like a little kid chasing a butterfly in the first half.
He hasn't done as well as he could have IMHO and hasn't been good enough for a club with promotion ambitions. Disappointing, he needs to get back to performances like Posh away, for the sake of his own career if nothing else.

How does this make any sense at all?

He missed a sitter once therefore he's crap.

If that's what happened do you think the player makes these decisions independently, or under instruction?

Can you reload the videos Fatty, I keep clicking the arrows but none of them will play! :)

I assume it's under instruction. But with the heavy conditions and rain falling it wouldn't have been unreasonable to try flicking it on from the start

Don't forget the sitter at home to Blackpool. Double crap.

I think everything the Derby fans said about him has turned out to be spot on unfortunately. He started really well too and was good up until that Blackpool game but from then on he's been very poor

And Billy missed two or three sitters against Bury for instance. It's besides the point. His link up play is good (better than anyone else currently at the club apart from Billy) and he can benefit the team.

Anything decent that happened on Tuesday came through Sammon, plus a strong penalty shout.

Is he the best player in the world? No. Could he prove very useful for us as we look to make the play-offs? Absolutely.

He's Scapegoat of the Month now most people have moved on from McEveley.

Look for the tiniest thing he might have done wrong and then hammer him for it while ignoring any positive contributions. Like when McEveley was fouled for Bury's first goal and the nonsense that it was therefore his fault.

You fail to see the bad side. He's halfway there to be brilliant at this level but the inability to head, control or run messes it all up.

I know you're the club spokesman but even you must admit that he's not a championship player.

What does Sammon bring? Rank mediocrity. The straw clutching is incredible.

Except it's not clutching at straws. It seems pretty clear to me how he has contributed to the team and how he could contribute further. The evidence was there on Tuesday; it's been there in plenty of other games too.

A proper salmon can leap. If ours was at Swillsborough he would be put in a tin and sold.

Agreed ...... what we need upfront is a pacey, strong goalscorer to play with Sharp / Done to contribute with goals and assists. Sammon has never been consistent or prolific in his career ..... another poor decision from the Club to sign him I'm afraid .....

To be fair ..... he's never been a regular scorer in his entire career ....... he's just not what we need if we're to have any chance of effectively competing in the play-offs ....... even if we get in the play-offs.
