What Sammon Brings

Only to those who can't see his true abilities :)
Which is everyone but you! :)

You'll see this clearly come the end of the season. Let's see where he ends up.....

I'm fairly sure my 35 year long season ticket renewal will end if we give him another chance, but as big a joke as we've become, we won't be that daft.

As with Jay earlier in the season I'm not saying he's world class - but the abuse he's getting is ridiculous and even shameful.

He played pretty well yesterday. Certainly better than Adams. We had little chance before the substitution and no chance after it.

And it's not just me (and Giovanni Trapattoni ;)) - this whole 'report' is spot on, and includes a view on Sammon from someone who's not one of the pissed-up purple-faced predators     .

“A gritty and important victory which we ground out against a side that promised a lot but delivered very little.

We started confidently and had a clear game plan against a back three. They looked confident at the back but had little width which we quickly exploited. They came back into it and had a lot of neat play in the middle and some good play down their right. They hit a neat ball inside Martin for the on rushing RM who did not make the best of his cross. Another move saw Fergie on his heels and they did not make the best of their advantage. Connor Salmon was getting some good knock ons and was giving Webster as tough a test as he has faced all season but he was up to the task. For all their possession and territory in the first half Archer did not have one direct save to make.Adkins had clearly given them all a rocket at half time and they came out 2 minutes before us with the sleeves rolled up and looking for action.

They pressed us back from the start and their away support was giving it all they had. Despite better possession and more territory they couldn’t blow our house down. They had corners and free kicks but it wasn’t until 65 minutes that they had their first shot on goal and then it was only a tame header.they got their first meaningful shot on goal after 75 minutes which Archer did well to push it wide for a corner. it was a narrow victory but a deserved outcome. “

No way will he be retained - but a decent enough player has been effectively driven out of the club.

The hate for McEveley started with the penalty at Spurs and just snowballed from there. With Sammon it was the second sitter he missed. (That and Caveman Keith's RS BS which is also a factor.)

Next season? Playing well top end of Division 3 is about his level I reckon. Possibly Division 2 but unlikely. Depends on the team set up.

That took some digging out. :)

Even our manager said he'd done himself no favours with that performance.

If there's a chance that the club would give him an extended deal, then I'm definitely on the side if those who've driven him out.

Sorry fella, but we've clearly been rubbish for so long that your standards have fallen too low.

His next move will be bottom end of division three or division four, or even lower than that in another country.

Division 2 or 3 of the Scotish League you mean right ?

I don't agree with the level of abuse he's getting. Regardless of his performance I don't doubt his effort.

However, saying that, I can't really see how he played pretty well yesterday. He gave the ball away almost every single time he got it. He was repeatedly out muscled and left on the floor despite being the biggest man on the pitch.

He doesn't deserve the stick some were giving him yesterday but he's just not any good.

Appreciate a more balanced post - but for me this just isn't true. If you look for what he does wrong you'll see plenty of it - that's the same with any player, it's just that the scapegoat gets it in the neck - but he did plenty well yesterday, and was the only player singled out for praise by the opposition fans, eg as upthread:

Connor Salmon was getting some good knock ons and was giving Webster as tough a test as he has faced all season but he was up to the task.

Missed by our own manager though.

It doesn't matter about his performance at Milwall. We've seen enough.

I'll eat humble pie if he signs for a club above our level, as I hope you will if he signs for Crawley.

I was thinking of offering some kind of bet on where he ends up. I'm not a fan of money-to-chosen charity bets, but it's better than baring arse on the town hall steps, so maybe a tenner to the respective chosen charity if he signs for a club that finishes above/below us.

Reminds me I might need to reconsider my response to that thread Would you ever want us to lose? I'll end up hoping we finish as low as possible.

Go on then, I'll take it. Cancer Research? :)

PS I will bare my arse on the town hall steps if I don't win this bet.

I think certain players are getting undeserved stick and criticism due to the fans frustrations accumulated over a number of seasons . The bloke who should be getting the stick is Adkins himself , who picks the team , sets it up , sorts tactics . Instead of the bloke making average players better and performing above there level , he has sent some backwards , and looking like they know nothing about football. These players are not all shit and have shown what they can do , ok on very few occasions . We tend to forget the nucleus of them did well in the cup and got into the pay offs last season , with being crap.

Ok a number are on there way and perform like they couldn't give a toss , but I cannot remember a situation like this before , where the manager seems exempt from blame .

Abuse is wrong , but to question a players attitude and the managers motivation , tactical awareness is right .

Adkins is to blame for a lot of thing wrong , but it just slips under the radar IMO.

I don't think he was at all suited to this group of players. But I think given chance he'll build a team of his own that does perform.

But look where they have gone to: Murphy went after the first game. After that, Freeman, Scoogs, James Wallace, Bob have all recently gone on to worse things - and some are injured/injury prone. Baxter was our creativity - and he's gone. Coutts is creative but a very limited physically.

When I listen to the interviews I hear a clear and consistent message about an athletic team, a smaller squad all of potential first team players, consistency of selection (gone out the window short term for various reasons), and attacking football. He needs his own players to do that.

Recruitment will be key, and so far this has been a problem. Baptiste was promising in this regard. He is strong and athletic, but we compromised on potential injury-proneness. If he has injured his hamstring then that may signal the rapid decline of his career as his body fails to adjust. (Like Coutts - if he was ever mobile.)

I do wonder if the loud and clear message in recent interviews about pathway for the youngsters is also a bit of politicking aimed at potential loan clubs and agents listening out for where to send their young dynamic charges.

I didn't go but it sounds like we missed Sammon today. Saw these two in another thread.

This has happened to us in other games, the most obvious was Bradford away - I think. On that day we brought on Sammon and he changed the game by occupying their defenders. He'd done it before and he's done it since and not always as a sub.

This is one of the things he brings to the game.

Today Adkins said in his interview he put on Baxter to try to get on the ball and play Sharp in, worth a try but again it sounds like it didn't work. Sammon has done this job numerous times this season: holding up the ball releasing pressure and bringing things together.

We're missing him. I'm guessing he's low on confidence in part bc he's the latest scapegoat.

I hope he gets his confidence back because we need him.

Dark, dark days.
