Listening to the Blackpool Game, but not on RS

Maybe that's because you can't see whats really happening and there's no way you'll hear from the other guy he can't get a word in edgeways.

Edwards is one big big BIG black cloud.....
I don't need to see what's really happening though. I've seen this team play enough times to know Keith isn't exaggerating or lying. The same thoughts go through my head when I watch them try to play football

I find him a tad annoying sometimes but I can more than cope with that such is the respect I have for what he did for this club.

He's only sharing his own personal opinion of how he feels Utd are performing and how they can improve, fuck me WHF, if anyone should empathise with him, it's you! :)

I have no issue with him commenting on how poor we are, that a player should be doing something different - But a commentator shouldn't be ranting like he does. I want to hear what's happening in the game if I'm listening to it on the radio - I don't want to hear someone rant about how poor it is, I can listen for that on Praise or Grumble.

What happens if nothing's happening in the game because of how poor it is?

There is no doubt he is very negative. He has critisised most players this evening, together with the manager and the coaching staff. He said we didn't deserve the win and that's why we are mid table. Actually we are 7th. He showed his mindset by saying something like 'I find it hard to critisise a striker for having a shot at goal'. Why would critisism be his first thought?

Having said that he was very very positive about his own goal scoring record and how it is in fact better than the record of Jimmy Dunne as his was either side of the war (which it wasn't incidently).

Basically I think 'positive' Blades won't like his observations and Barney will! :)

For what it's worth we probably didn't deserve to win and a lot of his observations are accurate, just very very negative.

How can his observations be both 'accurate' and 'very negative'?

I certainly respected Keith as a player and agree with most of his observations of what the current United team-play has lacking but please do not repeat it continually during the game, please save those comments until natural breaks in the match. Please instead TELL US WHAT'S HAPPENING.

What I mean Pete is that as a listener and a Blade I would just like a bit more enthusiasm from him. Not unrealistic praise for anything like a clapping seal but yer know just cheer me up a bit.

He can be accurate and negative if he concentrates on the negatives and what we have done wrong. I suppose a bit more balanced, if fact more than balanced maybe even a touch Bladey. I'm sure you know what I mean.

For me he'd be crap even if he was commenting on another team - it's not that much to do with how he sees United: his views on football are stone age.

Tonight I stopped listening early on when we played it out to Coutts who was fouled for a free kick, and he spent 30s or a minute on how we'd lost possession - we had a free kick.

(From there just followed updates on Twitter. (Thanks again.))

Earlier Collins had pumped it long and lost possession when Hammond and Coutts were asking for it to feet: we'd turned the ball over and he'd questioned Hammond and Collins wanting the ball.

Occasionally (and unsurprisingly) he'll make a good point about movement of strikers (he also makes plenty of bad ones), but overall the game has moved on and left him behind.

There's plenty of constructive criticism to be made about the team, and the game, imo he offers little or none of it.

There are plenty of gaps like this where he can have his rants, but he chooses to rsnt whenever he feels like it. I just feel when listening to commentary, there should be more professionalism. He should have the ability to control his emotions, which he makes quite obvious he can't. Well until we score, when he isn't that bothered.

If what is happening is that we are continually playing in the same shit way (which is what we did all night tonight , coz I was there) what do you want him to say ? Ball in the air to salmon - lose possession. JCR on left wing when he should be on right wing - forced to cut inside - crowded out. Etc etc.
Ffs , whf , Keith is bang on , he only wants us to improve the basics.
Don't give me this "Keith's views are stone age bollocks".
As NA says , its a simple game , football , and we are simply crap at it at the moment !

So WHF doesn't like what people write about the team or what people say about the team.

It must be awful being the only one in step...

The thing is the Radio Sheffield Gimp is there to tell us what's happening. Keith's role is to sit at the side of him and talk bollocks in much the way that the pundit's do on the telly. If they were to tell us just what was happening the commentary of most of United's matches would go something like this

Oh look, a seagull.

As Billyblade says, it's the job of the 'professional' to provide the incisive commentary, the pundit's job in local radio is to provide more of a fan's view and also add their actual footballing experiences which most commentators don't have.

I'd defy any fan from here to do Sir Keith's job and not come across as mainly negative in the past 10 years. Just read an average day's postings :)

It is not that I resent his negative views, which are mostly accurate, it is when he continually repeats them during the action in the game and not letting the BBC commentator tell us what is happening on the pitch. Alternatively RS should give him a time-slot after the match or at half time instead of when the match is being played

:-)

See post above.

If he was punditing on *any* game I'd throw the radio out the window - his views on not just United but football in general with the occasional minor exception are horribly outdated.

A hero as a player. A villain as a pundit.

I do wonder if he's actually damaging the club...
