It's just an incentive to persuade people to book tickets in advance, which gives the club a clearer idea of the likely crowd and helps the club plan for the match better (number of pies, number of bar staff etc) in theory at least.
Look at it as a £2 saving for buying in advance rather than a £2 punishment for buying on the day.
which is fair enough I suppose
