Scrappy, gritty, 1-0 wins

It'll be tough going to Wigan next, but we'll take a huge following and let's have a right good go of it

Gritty 1-0 wins is what got Charlton promoted, well thats what it seemed like.

Shows the players do have a backbone and some fight about them. If we can add a bit of pace going forward then we should be more of a threat.

1-0 Gritty wins are fine at the moment as we simply need to start winning games.
Its not the ideal way we want to play games, as normally these gritty games equal poor quality football.

We've now conceded just one goal in the past four games - the last-minute equaliser at Barnsley.

If we start to get the basics right you would think a sensible board would look to strengthen the areas in January to add to it.

Extra and Better options for:

Left Wing
Centre back
Centre forward

We wouldn't then be too far away.

Back to back league wins, clean sheet and another BS goal, banana skin game, three points. Still work to do, defence still scare me, inability to put the game to bed, unnecessary bookings and the number of fouls we commit are concerning but we move on.

It's all you can ask for really when you have the squad we do.

Adkins, to his credit, has realised that we don't have the capability to 'out-football' teams and need to bring them down to our level in order to beat them. It's a philosophy which isn't going to win you leagues or get you into the top 2 but, for now, it's all we can be doing every game.

Hopefully, we can recruit properly in January. By properly, I mean 4/5 new players of good league 1 quality and also, importantly, at the BEGINNING of January, not messing about for 4/5 matches only to panic in the last week when we have fallen further off the pace.

We lack creativity and are still pretty shambolic at the back (despite the run of clean sheets!) but at least have found a method which works in the short-term. If we want to be promotion contenders, we still need a lot more quality in many areas of the pitch. Big games over Christmas period, I expect nothing short of a defeat at Wigan but the other games could give us some real momentum going into January.

Precisely this. I was only speaking about this the other day to a fellow blade who I work with.

I don't think we can rely solely on grinding out 1-0 wins though, we need a few more convincing wins for certain. I will definitely take a few more like the last two though.

We'll do exactly that In the transfer window we always do.

Only problem with results like these are they start to mask some of Adkins mistakes. Criminal to be starting McEveley and Woolford.

A 5 year old could have told him we should be starting Kieron Wallace and Campbell Ryce in those positions. Good to win but because of that these things won't be talked about.

I would have taken a few more losses it meant we were able to be in a position to replace him.

With Compliments

surely winning away at scunthorpe
our first win there since 1958 - 59 season is on a par with winning a play off final in terms of breaking a bad sequence
scunny has been one place where weve battered them from minute 1 to 90 weve only drawn, at best

I was far more wary of going here, as its such a bogey ground , than I am of going to Wigan

Just have a look at the comments on here. All it takes is a couple of scrappy wins and the positivity and confidence is coming back.

Hopefully it's returning to the players as well which can only help matters. Then, if we can make a couple of good additions in January, whilst offloading a bit of the plentiful shite, we can really kick on and start playing the way Adkins and we all want us to.

McEveley was decent today, and in the last game. Unfortunately he starts with a -4 rating.

Woolford is a different matter.

The point about masking deficiencies is a good one (though masked by your obsession with the manager. I hope nobody at the club becomes under any illusion that we need fresh blood in.
