I'm not one for booing the team but dear God that has to be the worst 3-0 win I have ever seen in close on 50 years, we were fookin awful. I thought we might have seen a decent game when we scored in the 1st minute little did I know that was to be our only worthwhile effort of the first half. As some have already said no movement up front and the tempo was so slow I though we had started playing that walking football they advertise on the telly for the OAP's. Fleetwood didn't need to do much defending JCR did it for them every time he got the ball he stopped us in our tracks by passing back, no wonder the lane is as quiet as a library that team don't have a clue, they can't even play possession football without nearly gifting Fleetwood opportunities. A bit better 2nd half and much better when Baxter came on at least he tried to make something happen, play like that and any half decent team will murder us. The saving grace was that Fleetwood were worse than we were, how they managed to beat Burton 4-0 I'll never know.

A wins a win at the end of the day, and i'm not unhappy. Things did improve second half, but even Adkins was doing his nut in the first :)

Fleetwood, certainly on that showing, are looking dodgy for the drop. maybe their home form will save them.

funnily enough watched man utd win at everton they did absolutely nothing except score 2 goals first half

its a funny old game

Booing really irritated me tonight & agree with guy on praise or grumble because last few years fans say they want possession football style similar to Swansea, Then tonight booing when it happen get on their backs because ball not gone forward fast enough

Just ridiculous

Ball retention only wears the opposition down if the tempo of it has them chasing shadows. With that I haven't a problem. Sadly for us it's often at a risky slow pace that causes untold unnecessary panic within our back four that WILL cost us a goal before long. I don't buy that the ball retention we play wears down our opponents for us to exploit second half/ later in the game. What energy are there defenders using while we are passing around at the back??. Keeping possession is an important part of our game but when the opportunity arises to run forward into 20 yards of space we often turn around and go backwards. Now that's frustrating. When we do move into that space the game opens up.

Spot on with this. We didn't quite panic tonight (like we often do), but only because of the poor opposition.

I despair on the Kop sometimes.... gerrit forwards brigade have been out in force this season.

We sat in the South stand for the first time in about 20 years this evening, the gerrit forwards brigade out in force, those around us worse than our usual neighbours on the kop. Still, they were much happier with the hoof up front that was put out for a Fleetwood throw in.

Think any booing of the team is completely out of order. I never do it.
But if tonight was the Blades take on "possession football" then we're completely f**ked this season. Forget playoffs even.

So So many demonstrate a genuine lack of understanding of basic football tactics.

How many times were loud jeers heard today whenever a forward pass was not made ??

Not saying that forward passes were sometimes "on" but not made / seen. But I would trust our manager and players to decide when the penetration and transition should be made above lumping hopeful balls forwards every day of the week.

We completely dominated that game from minute one and for many, cos the ball was not in the danger areas for the entire 90 mins, this constitutes negative play !!!!

Not looking for a row but seriously, quite a few need to get a basic grasp of tactical understanding before spouting nonsense.

Good 3 points.

Thought you were talking about tonight until I saw the date of the post.

Excellent post even now

had a good laugh at this ;).. i just hope we have another 30 worst wins ever seen then we will get out of this godawful division

Rather than lose possession? Yes of course. If you have no one to pass to and you're under pressure, get rid, smash it up field or out of play. Do not lose possession in open play.
Who are going to win this weekend? I'll go for Australia and New Zealand.

A terrible 3-0 win, couldn`t agree more, I much preferred the 2-3 to Colchester, we were much better.

Get it sorted Adkins!!

I blame MOTD and Sky for frustrated fans. We watch hours and hours of highlights of hundreds of games and we start to think that all 90 minutes of our 46 live games we go to should be the same level of attack and action.

This is football and it has 15/20 minutes of action and 65/70 minutes of non action live with it.

As a Blades fan and S24 poster I don't like to see fans arguing with fans, few on here need to be the bigger man and apologise for some of the insults being hurled at each other (unless it's barny blade ;)). We all want the same thing and it's not falling out between fans.

I fully understand. I have watched for 55 years and played for over 30 years. My point was that one particular player, given an opportunity to do what we all believe he can do and professes that he wishes to do and who could have been the catalyst for a sparkling performance just simply didn't turn up. AND I CANT UNDERSTAND WHY!!!!!! I can see the tactics. I haven't got a problem with them except for the pace they are delivered at.
Fair dinkum fella.

As regards JCR I do not think your assessment that we ALL believe he can do it is anywhere near accurate. I certainly do not, as he frustrates the shit out of me, and with a fully fit squad, would have at least 4 players in front of him for the right midfield spot.

Totally agree but I think MoTD is the perfect format for watching football. Ninety minutes - even if your team is involved - is pretty tedious. The crowd at Arsenal last night were very quiet and, at 1-0 with about ten minutes left, loads were leaving the ground.

BBC Sport looks at the numbers behind the Bavarian giants' success.

863
The number of passes attempted by Bayern, 95% of which were successful. This success percent is a new Champions League record since accurate data recording began in the 2003-04 season.

The most passes attempted against Arsenal in the Premier League this season was the 624 by Swansea in September, while Fulham are the most accurate team against the Gunners in the league this season, completing 87.3% of their 479 passes in August.

222
The number of passes attempted by Arsenal. They completed 71.2% of them. The lowest number attempted by the Gunners in the Premier League this season was 394, against Tottenham in September. The most they attempted was 803 against Hull in December.

All very impressive - especially by Bayern - but it sounded like watching paint dry. And they lost.

Give me Blades v Fleetwood any day...:D

That first half, barring the goal, wasn't good enough.

Our play was far too pedestrian and the players looked like they were just trying to coast through it and seemed to have the mindset of 'it's only Fleetwood, we'll beat these.'

There was no urgency with the exception of Freeman & Wallace and Sharp and Adams up front. I remember one point where Sharp tracked right the way back to the left back position to pick up the ball. The two centre mids looked clumsy and were losing a lot of second balls and our formation looked to rigid. It literally was just passing from left to right and back again for large parts. I didn't boo, but I did get frustrated.

The second half was much better from the off, the tempo increased and we were moving the ball around much quicker. Our second goal was one of the most pleasing on the eye I've seen in a long, long time. We just kept the ball, kept moving it looking for the space. We lost the ball and Fleetwood punted it back down field but we moved it around at the back a couple of times and then quickly built up the passing again, moved it quickly, and then a good run by Wallace to set it up for Adams. I'm happy to see football played like that. I'm not happy to see more of that first half where the ball was moved so slowly at the back there was no way we were going to find any space.

It's getting worse! I'm not even going to bother talking about the performance (it was fine) as it shouldn't matter. I'd like a player/Adkins to come out and say it's not helpful. Done told crowd to calm down tonight and just got shouted at.

I've always said our fans couldn't watch us play like Swansea, or watch us play Swansea. Somehow us keeping the ball is as much of a disaster as the other team doing it.

I agreed Oldham was bad but who's going to benefit from the crowd singing 'what the fucking hell was that!?'?

Our son gets to games about twice a season and was there last night. He was shocked at the mood and attitude of fans he has got to "know" over the years. Bearing in mind we were winning from the first minute, by the half hour mark it had the feel of a comedy sketch, it was that ridiculous.

"Support" manifests itself in many ways and nobody would ever question the right of fans to voice their displeasure. End of story, but that's not to say it is anything other than totally counter-productive. Last night the players were inhibited by the atmosphere until half time when they upped the tempo until the game was won.

I suppose nobody would have wanted such crowd pressure more than the Fleetwood manager.

The atmosphere is crap at the moment. Even though there were not a lot of chances we completely controlled everything about that game. I think they had one half arsed shot on target that even Mark Bunn could have got down to in time. There is a strange mentality to the Blades fan. We're bored at winning 3-0 at a canter despite that being what everyone says we should be doing. We're pissed off about being too open when someone like Colchester have the temerity to come in to our half. Earlier in the season we aimlessly lumped it too much. Now we passed it too much.

I blame Sky.

I don't boo the players and generally am optimistic. I think the poor atmosphere now is a combination of different things.

How many times before have we believed 'this is the year' only to be disappointed? I don't want to get excited by the latest, maybe false, promise until I've seen some real signs of quality.

You can't play you're way out of this league, David Weir found out the hard way. A mix of both is ideal. What's wrong with booting the ball down field of our of play if there is no-one to pass to and the opposition are all over you ? McEveley found that out against Bury (I think) trying to be fancy brining the ball out from the back, got caught out and we conceded.

I cannot believe anyone who sat through that 1st half can say it was good nevermind exciting to watch, one effort on goal but hey we had 70% or whatever possession WTF ? Might as well take a book to read at the next home game because that bored the fuck out of me. All game I can only recall 3 efforts on goal (the ones we scored from) no need to wash their keepers kit for Saturday thats for sure.
Good to have the three points but thats another few hours of life wasted maybe football has changed and I need to find a more interesting pastime like bogey flicking.

You can't play your way out of this League. That right ?

I haven't been to every match but have been to all the homes. The overall standard of football in L1 this season has been pretty good as far as I can see. Perhaps as good as has been the case in many a year.

But to pick you up on your point, most matches I have seen have generally seen both sides go at each other in a controlled, measured way. Passing and ball retention being the key objectives for the most part.

May have escaped you but last night, even the mighty Fleetwood were playing the ball out from their goalie to the full backs rather than going long.

Football has evolved. We now have a manager that is now trying to "evolve" us as a club and drag us kicking and screaming in to the modern world of 21st century football.

Give him a bit of credit for trying, and don't expect miracles this early on in the project.

You will never get out of any division going long/hoof its dead that style of football even in L1 and L2.
As the the season goes better understandings will develop from the back to the front
men.
Adkin wont be rushed in bringing in any old defender hes got his man in midfield Hammond it will be same with the defensive predicament.
A lot of those fans the boo boys on the Kop and in the South Stand wont change its in them to be pricks Ive changed my seating arrangements so i dont have to listen to them any more.
Keep going with the passing game Nigel

Forward, Forward, Forward.
Sheff United never go Forward
All our players pass sideways
And we're never exciting
And our fans are all armchair experts.

:)
