Our next 4 fixtures are all against teams currently in the bottom 8, 3 of them indeed in the bottom 4. How far do you think our results in these games will suggest how the rest of the season will pan out?

I'm of the opinion anything less than 9 points from these games would suggest we will be looking at play-offs at best. If we can pick up 10 or 12 points I will be feeling more optimistic, but I still feel we lack the midfield or defence solidity to guarantee wins against poor opposition.

Not season defining at all.

The table at Christmas is largely meaningless never mind October/November.

The table may be but the points we get now will almost define our season as February onwards is pretty much a lottery if you're still chasing the top two. So many games and rearranged games come thick and fast tues-sat-tues that you really have to get the points buffer now

Whf.....that's about the size of it, after the "you know who" episode when we were in the top two pretty much all season, and to cap it off, well you know the rest don't you...

If we hit top or look solid in second at any point this season, I predict the first inland tsunami ever, or an asteroid hit on he lane meaning we forfeit the last game to the resurgent Doncaster...and they go up instead of us. Or so mat like that

We could be top, and walking away with it, at the beginning of April and still cock it up.

I reckon we should take each game as it comes. ;-)

We have to take each game as it comes , even more so this season , were everyone can beat each other . Think too far ahead in football , and you fall flat on your arse . The same situation before the home games against Bury and Colchester , were some of us thought 6 points were in the bag even before we kicked a ball .

Theres no littlewoods coupon bankers this season as far a SUFC are concerned.

UTB.

I think Wigan away on Boxing Day could set the pace for the remainder of the season.

More like the month of December - Coventry , Scunthorpe , Wigan , Bradford.

In saying that every month is and will be difficult , and only a fool or a mad man would predict what we would do.

What we are capable of doing , and what we finish up actually doing , are poles apart IMO at the moment.

6 years before we were formed

one of the key games for me is one I get to see , coming home for 5 days in December and will get to the game v Coventry
they , like us seem to have tilt at finally breaking out of this division and will make a concerted effort to go up

winnimg games like this dont hurt , yes its still only 3 points but carries a bit of kudos

looking forward to seeing our triple pronged forward line in full flight

Timely reminder that at this exact time three years ago Tranmere were 7 points clear at the top. Whatever happened to them?

The next four games are no more important than the four games after that. 'Season defining' is something you could only apply in retrospect anyway.

The post where you mistakenly say the table at Christmas is largely meaningless.

It is meaningless. Care to remember who was top of League One at Christmas 2012?

The point I was making is that after the next four matches there will still be thirty left regardless of whether we win all four or lose all four.

And if we win all 4 we're more likely to be promoted than if we lose all 4.

Every game is important. Especially after the head start we've given the top two.

The first 46 games will define the season.

Just as a bit of food for thought...

Adkins's Saints team that got promoted in 2010-11 didn't break into the top two until 1st January.

Thats what Adkins will keep telling himself , players and the board. We may hear that one in a inspirational speech interview on RS.:)
