Say what you like about Billy

5 in a row now he's got and he's only going to get better as he learns his team mates games more. It was interesting listening to Baxter's interview at full time where he was saying that Billy's movement is terrific and that Billy has been on at him to pick out his runs. Sunday was the first time we saw it but what a pass it was. If Baxter plays in an advanced position just behind Sharp in a 4-3-3 they will only build up a better understanding.

Exactly, and that would include short defence splitting balls, as Baxter being a bit nearer Sharp and other striker would mean he wouldnt have to always try a long pass.

if only he could do it every game.. mind you if he could he wouldn't be playing for us i suppose :D

That's it in a nutshell SP. Trouble is, Baxter might be the type of bloke who, having played one half of a game well (which is what he's paid to do for as full game anyway), he might bask in the glow of the comments he's received and forget that we, the cunts who contribute towards his wages, expect a far higher return from him than a one in 10 ratio of good performances (and that's probably a bit on the low side regarding his good performances).

He should have some personal pride, if possible kick himself up the arse, and then try a lot harder to show those rare glimpses of what he's capable of on a more regular basis.

I was afraid he was not man enough to return, but he has proved he is more man than man.

Paper lace (lyrics from billy dont be a hero)

Billy you are our hero please be a blade all your life
Billy you are our hero he's come back into our life
And as billy struck out at goal. we said that strike was really cool.
Billy you are our hero you' ve come back to us

Makes me giggle when i think back to some of the comments I saw on various social media sites prior to him coming back, claiming Sharp would be a poor signing and that he's past it. Heck I've heard it at some of the home games too, madness!

I said it all along. A large percentage of an individual performance is down to the desire to do well and you will struggle to find anyone in that team at the minute with a desire even equal to that of Billy's. He is playing for the team that he loves, he wants to score for us and he wants us to win games.

For me at the minute he is every bit the role model and as unorthodox as it might be to make strikers captain, I think the club could do far worse than give him the armband. On the ball and off the ball his work rate is second to none, when the tempo drops and heads drop Billy is working back and doing his defensive duties but at the same time whenever we are in possession Billy makes himself available and looks to get in to score.

Fitness wise he looks in excellent shape and this shows on the pitch as he is still working his balls off 85 minutes in.

I'm delighted with what Sharp has done so far - but the season is 46 games long, not 8. Bit too early to conclude it was a great signing IMHO.

Keep it up Billy. And don't miss any more pens.

This suggestion runs counter to other views that Baxter is more effective as a deep playing midfielder, just in front of the back four, making himself available for the ball coming out from defence, allowing himself a bit of time and space to play, and also allowing Basham and Reed (or whoever) to play further forward. I'm not sure which position/role suits him best. He's played both of these on different occasions in the past - both resulting in mixed performances. It would just be great to see him at his best in either. Maybe they're not mutually exclusive (as at Bradford?)

Said in the heat of the moment I apologize to Kieron Freeman, who is also well worthy of wearing the shirt. He's been brilliant compared to the others of late, along with Billy.

Unfortunately, the others have had a majorly suspect 3 games, maybe barring the second half for a few v Colchester and the second half for a few v Bradford.

Hope Adkins was watching Harry last night, he'd go a long way to sorting the mess in defence out.
