I refer to my post some weeks ago about how bloody unbalanced our fans (particularly many on here) are (opens himself up to abuse from all) but jeez, let's take a chill pill.

Just logged on and you'd think we'd been relegated. As many of you who appear to have been waiting for (almost wanting) this to happen just to make your point, will point out that there have equally been lots saying that everything is great because we won 4 on the trot. I'd just like to point out that neither side is right. We are not the finished article but equally we are not in the shit. The problem is that we've been embarassed at home by Bury who, by the way, are in the same division as we are on the same merit as us (just as we and Peterborough are). Just because they aren't "as big as us with as much money" doesn't give us a devine right to beat them. Bottom line is, our defence needs strengthening which our manager seems to acknowledge but his judgement seems to be that he wants loan signings to be available over Christmas. And yes, games in September are worth just as many points as those in January but there would be plenty who, had we signed someone for today, got a draw against the team with one of the best recent away records in the division, but lost 2 games in December would have been moaning that we signed x too early. We're all passionate but let's try to stop the knee jerk, point scoring reactions to good and bad results.

It's all about debate and points of view but so many seem to want to lay low until their point is proven - just how I see it.

I'm absolutely delighted that we have been battered 3-1 at home to a Bury side who are nowadays better than us.

OP is toss
All people saying is we still lack quality and the same issues we had last season are still unresolved.
Defensively we are still suspect but more so in midfield we do not control a game or dominate there.

Still not convinced on Bash in the CM role. Too lightweight, not nasty enough, doesn't boss it, not a goal threat.

I'm just glad I still have a team to support.

To be fair their away form is such that losing by just two clear goals could well be the difference when they go to GILLINGHAM or some such and win by 74.

Really="robbiez666, post: 830115, member: 2667"]I have no idea what you're on about, the posts tonight have been almost universally fairly level-headed.[/QUOTE]
Really Robbie? Brownie, for example, brought back up the ha ha ha thread asking how many people who disagreed with pompey basicallyfeel now. Point scoring. Browny, why didn't you post that last night on the basis that you thought that he was right rather than waiting to almost say "told you so"? Sure I could dig more out but bottom line is that we (and its a big we) appear to prefer the told you so game rather than actually discuss it.

Don't get me wrong. I don't disagree with a lot of what's being said and it needs sorting , it's simply how I some of us make the point.

You seem a little more circumspect now. Earlier in the shoutbox it seemed you were more fatalistic. Apologies if I've misread it.

Unfortunately the fact is that they were on the day according to the result. :-( Doesn't mean they will be over the season though.

It's quite obvious that today showed our squads weakness, my soul annoyance is with the board not doing what is needed to prevent results like today happening. Seriously what kind of strength in depth do we have? Did anyone look at that bench and see a game changer? But I thought we'd had game changing investment, our dealings on the final day of the transfer window were a disgrace but we thought we could manage because we'd beat 4 very average sides.

I'm not sure it is toss... without wanting to patronise, but the points you make are level headed, Threads that start with a poll of vitriol against one of our players (who admittedly was today, and has previously been, poor) or describes our performance as varying degrees of shit, etc, does smack of posters sat poised ready ready to tap and abuse. Schadenfreude?

Anyhow, now I'velit the blue touch paper, I'm now going to retire to bed to sleepoff today's alcohol. it'll be much better in the daylight tomorrow.

Cheers mate. That'swhat I tried to say but put much better.

We were never going to go all season unbeaten, had to happen at some point . Hopefully we can bounce back on Tuesday and forget about this result

In which case I agree with you :D

Benchmark for me is Bristol City last year and Wolves the year before.

How many home games did Brizzle lose last year? Wasn't their defeat to us one of two or their first?

They knew how to break teams down since the opposition would park the bus at their place. But no, our excuse is that we're bound to lose / not go unbeaten - quite right, but I'd expect it to be in a fixture against one of the top teams where it's a close run thing and it could have gone either way not just one of the run of the mill teams.

Personally, I'd be more worried if we'd played really well and lost, whereas the whole TEAM played poor and on the balance of play (IMO) should still have won.

I think I recall Howard having one tame header to save before they scored. For me it was a poor overall performance and we didn't take our chances and they definitely did - simples.
