In January 1982 McAlle moved to Derby and Ryan to Man City

I thought I'd seen them both play for us that season but couldn't remember they'd left befor ethe end of it. McAlle didn't last long then!

Given your encyclopaedic knowledge Silent, I'm sure you'll remember Julian Broddle being given a debut at home to Halifax that season and being awful - did he even play another game for us?

I wasnt at the match Julian played in but I remember my dad telling me about it. It was his only competitive appearance for us before moving to Scunthorpe

but at the time we wouldn't have been seen dead in it or anything less than a Fila Borg top (or a replica by C&A (popularised by myself), the Slazenger version), an Ellesse or SergioTacchini (John McEnroe).

The Cerrutti 1881 (Jimmy Connors) would have been as acceptable in retrospect - I didn't like them then - but I can't remember seeing any at football games.....correct me if I'm wrong?
Football fashion. Deserves a thread of of its own

was it not at the address in my post #33 above?

That's an interesting one - I seem to remember it being on Queens Road near to the junction with Charlotte road and not where the advert said.
Obviously it was up Abbeydale road at some point - Think there is a bed place now on Queens Road.

They made the HOBOTT shirts at the Queens Road shop opposite where the retail park is now - I know this because we had a set of footie shirts made there for our U16 side around 1986/87. The shirts we had made were a rip off of the Denmark 1986 World Cup kit :).

The Barringtons Sports Shop was on Abbeydale Road next to the Picture Palace where the Pizza Hut Delivery place is.

Thanks - that explains it then. I thought I could remember seeing it outside on the building.

Never saw any Cerrutti anywhere, Vorps. Never really went for the tracksuit top thing much back then (even a Man at C&A version) but I did where one of these atop a white Fred Perry. Look completed with the black Farah slacks and Adidas Samba in black.

Thoughts at the time: tasty looking.

Thoughts now: Twat!

Au cointreau Essex, au cointreau......its very much a la mode all over again.

Tennis wear was eclipsed by Golf gear about a year and a half later wasn't it?

Aye, like I said knitwear rather than sportswear was my thing (sod knows why) so when it did change I had a few of these horror shows, teamed with the white Pringle roll top, now with Lois cords and Adidas Gazelle in navy.

Lois, now there's a name to refresh my memory. Italian brand weren't they? I had a couple of pairs of Lois Jeans, think their branding featured a bull, but correct me if I'm wrong. I used to shop at John Simon in Covent Garden, the best supplier of american-italian menswear I recall. Now Simons has relocated to Chiltern Street, very swish and the place to be it seems.
