You are completely and utterly dismissing the fact that there might be a release clause.
SUFC may NOT have an option but to let Brighton talk to Murphy.

No, I'm not. Release clauses are part of the flawed selling strategy. SUFC always had an option. They had a choice when they established the contract to not include one, or make it unachievable. Murphy would have had a choice as to whether or not to accept the Ts&Cs. But since the club is hard-wired to think of player sales as opposed to retention it gets rolled over on transfers and continues to offload its talent.
