Has the previous manager had the Board's pants down in terms of wage bill for the squad he assembled? Be interesting to find out exactly how much Brayford and Sharp are on, for example. I do think the Board have backed the previous manager in whatever he wanted (though how well the funds were spent is different question); seems the chickens are now coming home to roost.

- McDonald had a clause in his contract

Of course, should Adkins have made an informed decision, knowing he'll be able to buy a quality player or players with the Murphy money, then we'll know there's at least a plan to which he's sticking to. Players come and go, but Murphy is 25, his best years ahead of him, and the figure quoted - £1.75mil - seems disappointingly low. It all depends on whether Adkins was forced to sell or chose to sell. Now's the time for Adkins to come clean, not remain quiet as if the supporters are secondary and don't matter.

Being in this limbo of 'is he going or staying?' is depressing. The fact that we're even considering this, let alone actually selling our best player, is a sign of what this club has become.

He didn't have to say it. I thought at the time it was a mistake as he might be made to look very foolish and looks like that may happen. What was the point of saying it when he knew ultimately he'd have only limited control over it? Hopefully it will mean our fans take what he has to say with a greater pinch of salt at least than they maybe have been doing.

I agree with this. I really don't think he is worth £2m. The main issue is that we almost certainly won't reinvest the money in the team. If we sold him and brought in 3 or 4 good players with the money then I could see the logic. What I imagine will happen though is that we will sell him and get a couple of average loan signings in

You do have to question whether the board actually want to go up. Is it in some way cheaper and easier to stay in this league? I don't know but I know selling your best player every season is a strange way to go about trying to gain promotion

Agreed. Jim has even gone on record as saying to compete in the Championship you are looking at an extra £10 million.

And it becomes more annoying when we sell the better players, but have to go wasting wages on paying the likes of Coutts, Alcock, Higdon, McEverley - who arent good enough.

But thats what you get for getting stuck in the third division. Garbage players on the books, while the best players are going out of the door.

Actually, if the transfer does go through it'll pull the carpet from under the feet of the Prince in a way that will remove any existing confidence in what I thought the club was trying to achieve? Trouble is, at £1.75mil it's as if whoever values our players is part way through a diploma in how to value a player. We're talking about a player who looked great against Hull, Villa, and numerous other teams, and yet he's worth less than £2.5mil?

The post I answered was £2.2M.............and at that, then it sounds a good deal.

Your £1.5M post is speculation.

I could also speculate that he has a release clause of £2.2M (as a lot of players do now) that ALLOWS clubs to talk to him and it has therefore been triggered. As a club we may not have an option other than to let Brighton talk to the player.

No one really knows the full story and as of yet he hasn't signed.

Personally, I'd value Murphy objectively at £1.5m, tops. For money like £2.5m, you'd need to be looking at a player who dominates every game they play in, in this league, no matter how many people are marking them.
While I'd put him at £1.5m, the cost of losing him is far greater, and one not worth considering. Without resorting to histrionics, I do believe we can say this season is written off, save Adkins playing a blinder in the next few weeks.

The answer to both questions is no and yes. We don't have to take, or so we've been told. And yes, he is that good, and worth a lot more than the figure quoted.

Don't forget,someone has to want to buy them first....who in L1 and below would want them and would the players move and take a cut in income ?
