Why have we never done that?

Every side who's pissed the league (Norwich, Southampton, Wolves, Bristol, Charlton) have ALL hoovered up the best in the league and gone up.

Who could we sign now who'd improve us massively?

Bradley Dack, for one. Took the piss yesterday.
Michael Bostwick would add some muscle, can play at centre half and is big and nasty. A leader.
Ian Evatt - Chesterfield are selling everyone off - he'd be a leader at the back with Bostwick.
Sam Morsy - would add that protection to midfield as well as keeping us ticking.
Nathan Byrne - if we're serious about promotion why not go and sign the best player in the league?

Keeper would be best picking up from the league above, no one stands out in our league.

But you don't go up with journeymen from the league above and kids. We're living proof of that, 5 years and 4-0 drubbing against the likes of Gillingham tell you all you need to know about that approach.

Go out - sign the best. Instead of towing our bollocks off with an average side with no leaders.

Because our main influence in the ownership group has always experimented in running the football club in a different way to everyone else involved in football.
Who knows, he may get it right before either me or him dies?

Spot on Danny, they are out there but who do we go for ?, the likes of the prolific Connor Sammon and Billy on his continued downward curve, Woolford 3 or 4 years too late.:(

Excellent post Danny.

I have wondered that many times. Buy the best, you play the best, you get promoted. Simple. £2.5m for a right back and £500k for a striker in a position not needed tells us we have the resources to do it, we're just shit at utilising them.

Not tha bladeswayyyyyyyyyyy. Gerrit forwarrrrrrds.
Yep, we've been enjoying the fruits of the shift in ethos since those dark days. Who wants any of the old stuff, when you can go and get anhailated by Gillingham in division 3.

That Warnock's got a lot to answer for.

We have the resources to get out of this league.

Unfortunately, since the summer of 2012, those resources have largely been squandered. It is like our transfer policy has been run by morons.

My big bugbear is the signing of players without regard for what we already have - hence our collection of non scoring non assisting lightweight midfielders, and our selection of mediocre full backs, whereas we neglect centre half.

The signing of or reliance on players with terrible injury histories is another shortsighted policy. Coutts and Wallace not fit - what a surprise!

Adkins seems to have started in the same vein. We have McNulty, so why waste money on Sharp? Where are the centre backs?

It feels like people who join the club lose their minds where recruitment is concerned. Please be the exception, Nigel.

If nathan byrne is the best player in this league then i might knock on adkins door for a game

Erm?

He got a hat trick yesterday against Bradford, what more do you want?. Took the piss against us (twice) and did regularly all season.
If there's anyone better I haven't seen them.

Haven't we tried this a few years ago with Cuvellier and Baxter etc;

Well, we signed two players (who both play in the same position) who were some of the best in the league
Hardly a team full, ala Bristol

Yeah some good points there which I agree with. We signed James Wallace, then when he wasnt fit, then some dipstick allowed Clough to sign Coutts to replace him - somebody with an equally terrible injury record. I still think Sharp will score in this league, but he is similar to McNulty, when Id have liked us to have signed some electric pace upfont (akin to Callum Wilson - that mould anyway), as it was different to what we already have. We signed Freeman and Brayford at the same time (I think) and then Jason Holt, a short midfielder, which is exactly what we didnt need (as we had Baxter and Scougs).

Our transfer policy does seem baffling at times. In particular Holt (as mentioned above) and Kieron Wallace who just seemed like replicas of what we already had.
But to be fair we did sign Done.
