Well, forgive me if you can. It does seem like a very, very long time since the team I support and have always supported put in a consistent run of convincing games whereby we've looked like a capable footballing side. Apart from a pretty rosy few games when Cluff came in, when was the last time we actually looked like Sheffield United?
There is every reason to go on the attack. If Sheffield United were a stick of rock, 'complacency', 'optimism' and 'acceptance' might be three words stamped right through it. We have had almost two handsful of managers since we were last in the top flight and to be realistic and logical and brutally honest about them and their teams is not 'attacking' them. They earn a fucktonne more money than you or I and enjoy pretty cosseted lifestyles and doubt they troll these boards worrying much about what pommpey thinks about them.
The ridiculous amount of stupid laying down of palms at the feet of Adkins shows what a daft, uncynical lot some of us can be. I was admitting that yes, he is a capable manager but no, he won't do fuck all unless he ships out the weak and the frail and reinforces the side with players above Division One standard. Yesterday is episode one of me being proven right. I hope to fuck it is a short, one-episode series. I hope it is replaced with 'pommpey eating his words' but for one moment, can you see that happening? With Collins and McEverly looking like two telegraph poles in our defence? With 'poor little' George in goal, flapping and shitting himself every time the ball comes into our half? With people like Scougall, talented in someone else's league and Baxter who turns in one 7/10 per season and people are still dribbling semen from their penises over one fucking tackle he did late on in a cup game last season? And then there's the front line. Billy 'I hope he comes back' Bladey and a few others (including fucking Higdon, who should have been metaphorically taken out and quietly shot after last season's dismal arrival an remainder) And you ask me to 'go easy' on this? Why?
It's a comparison for two reasons. Firstly, simply, it's the grunts. Brizzle came to the same city one year on to the opposite side and were turned over. That's slightly humiliating. Okay - it's quite humiliating. Secondly, cast your mind back to last season. We'd failed to land Coady, Maguire fucked off and Brayford was back at Cardiff. We were all 'Oooh, it's on Sky, BDTBL will be rammed and BRING ON THE NEW SEASON! THIS IS IT, BLADESMAN! WE - ARE - GOING - UP!" We went one down, equalised and lost. And we lost quite easily to Brizzle. They turned in a 'workmanlike performance' (in footballing parlance) and that was their consistency all season, utilising some hallmark players to shit all over the league and go up unchallenged. Meanwhile, we struggled to even make the playoffs, confident that really, we were never going to beat a plainly shit Swindon who were bummed endways by Preston at Wembley. But this season, our rivals welcomed Brizzle, and turned them over, thanks to what looks like a progressive manager (and I hate to say it) some good players they have acquired and a really positive manner of play. At the end of last season I'd have stuck a twenty on Brizzle bumming the pigs into madness. Yesterday the pigs showed the gulf in class between us, and them. THAT hurts.
I don't know how balanced you want me to be HBY. We are not very good and I expect us to do better. I expect us to be in the Championship next season and I expect the board to back the manager in acquiring better players and discarding the ones who failed us last season. That better?
What does looking like sheffield united mean? To me I'd like it to be playing the good passing, attacking football I was brought up on in the late 60s, early 70s but in all honesty that's been so rare so I'd say it was under Wilson before our star player got sent down. To some it will be aggressive, tough fast football often with the ball sent long ala Bassett and Warnock. To many it will be the abject garbage we've had to put up with for probably the majority of my 50 years watching them. So, like you, I'm desperate to see some improvement and, overall, to be entertained. But I do try not to let my feelings take over. With regard to you going on the attack, venting your spleen on here about the team is fine but the way I read your post was that you were actually attacking any supporter who simply does not agree with you, if I read it wrong then I apologise but if not then I think you'reout of order as we all have our own points of view and we should enjoy the debate. Sometimes the written word does not convey the context it's meant in.
I still think the comparison is not realistic and, tbh, I refuse to let that bag of shit winning one game upset me. It does hurt that they are clearly currently miles ahead of us but it's not as bad as it was in the 90s when they won at Wembleyand were top end of the prem.
We both agree that urgent action with the squad is required (me in hindsight admittedly) but we can only hope that it is - I still think Adkins is the man to do it but only if he has the support to do it. No amount of shouting and anger on here will make a difference. I still live in hope that the board and Adkins realise this but the only thing that would make the board take note is if (when) it affects them financially and no one is watching them. I think complacency and acceptance can be levelled at the board for as long as I can remember because fans have always paid money no matter what, but that's the problem of having such a strong, loyal fan base. I don't know the answer because we simply can't force out an owner without someone to buy, and you and i don't have the money to do that.
oh, and it's much better thanks
