Reasons for optimism

I totally agree - why on earth we weren't in for Kirkland, a quality, experienced goalkeeper is beyond me. Howard is OK, fine as second choice goalkeeper, but Long is just not good enough. A quality keeper is key & we've not had one since Paddy left. Look how many points Westwood clawed back for Wendy last season - he was probably the difference in their squad between finishing comfortably & being in a relegation battle.

Not just Krikland but O'Donnell as well.

Seems like we have wasted 2 or 3 months.[/QUOTE]

Point that out and the clappers call it panicking.

We have made a right pigs ear of the last three months apart from signing a manager who on paper seemed to be an improvement.

Unless his hands are tied behind his back he has fucked up well and truly.

Thing is we all knew he was fucking up.

I have had an uneasy feeling for a opulent of weeks now. It emminated from the realisation that my daily wait for the unveiling of our newly signed centre backs was going to be a futile one.

My mate texted this week saying what do you think, my response? I would feel a lot more positive if we had a new commanding centre back.

This summers business has been spectacularly uninspiring. I like Billy Sharp as a man, but he is a journeyman with a couple of good seasons on his cv. As for Sammon and Woodford, average.

As many have pointed out, there was absolutely one priority in the closed season, DEFENCE! Yesterday was a rerun of last season, if not slightly worse.

We need a keeper. George despite the plaudits at youth level, will never be a top class keeper. He still doesn't command his area and his confidence is too fragile. Howard has injury issues and is simply too inconsistent.

With the rest of the back 4 we must banish the thougt for evermore that fullbacks can play centre back. They are specialist roles, so this week the entire management team need to be busting a gut to get 2 good centre backs in.

Adkins worries me, we have had lots of management speak and buzzwords, but when you watch the interviews carefully, it feels like he doesn't wholly believe it himself? (Maybe he has found out what McCabe really means by game changing investment ?!?)

Now we really see the measure of the man. If he really is as good as has been suggested This week could be an interesting one. If he is merely Clough mk2 backed up by by a charlatan board it could well be a pivotal period in the clubs history signalling longer term stagnation with more fans doing a "Brownie" and voting with their feet.

Trouble is, he's like a panto villain who invites mockery.

As for you comment about being right about last season, you actually regard this as a remarkable talent worthy of applause? Jeez!
Whereas you take an eternity to say nothing but get in petty little spiteful squabbles with anyone and everyone since defecting from bladesmadhouse

Reasons for optimism:-

1. Bottom of the League, so cannot get any worse (this season)

2. 20,000+ loyal fans (if they got a team to support).

Whereas you take an eternity to say nothing but get in petty little spiteful swuabbles eith anyone and everyone since defecting from bladesmadhouse

What's a swuabble? Don't scouser PC's have spell-check yet? Stop being a small girl's blouse, making statements you can't back up only adds to your aura of rear-end panto horse.

Judge used to clap with the best of them. He's crossed the floor because he believes the evidence of his eyes rather than what people with a greater command of the English Language tell him to.

Good Post - But what is this 'Opulent of Weeks' - Is it a collective noun like 'school of whales' or 'gaggle of geese' or in Uniteds' case 'BAG OF SH!TE'

The optimistic folk believed all the hype about Adkins pre-season

The sensible ones knew the problems and that these had not been acted on and if anything the "initial" team is now worse than before.

More fools them for believing the hype in the first place.

If Adkins really thinks that this lot are good enough, then I'd agree. However manager after manager have brought in countless players who've added nothing. Quick fixes. Perhaps Adkins is taking a little longer to get the right men. And more worryingly, perhaps the woeful squad building of Clough has blown the budget.

Fortunately it's not hype about Adkins, and the facts say so. The. Clough love in ( did you join in?) was entirely built on hype.

You must have quoted that fast as i corrected it straight after posting

Take it that you were not a fan of Mr Clough then Alco ???
The facts also say he got fired from his last job because he had failed !

At the risk of coming across all "I told you so", I pointed out before we appointed him that one promotion in a decade and a half would suggest he wasn't the man to get us promoted.

2 wasted years later and we've got a bloated squad build for treading water - Clough's forte.

We've only ever been half decent when we've had a decent keeper. Neither Howard not Long fit that category : both are inconsistent and crap.

If you're suggesting that my comment about judge's version of english has any great relevance (other than he should check before posting), sorry, it doesn't. As for the evidence of his own eyes, presumably his negativity on most things, including snide comments about a family who lost a daughter, are included in your view of judge as a 'quality' poster?

What are you talking about ?

What are you talking about ?

So you don't recall your post taking a poke at Madeleine McCann's parents? Oh that's right, when you were pulled up about this you reverted to that weary defence that it was an 'ironical' comment.

As for your posts with one answer replies, I'll leave the panto script to you.

Let me understand, I jog your memory about a post you seem to have forgotten about, and by commenting on your unpleasant post about the McCann's you then attempt to say it wasn't your intention? Sounds like those fools who end up in the dock and plead innocence when it was clear to all and sundry what was said. It's down to you whether you feel it's appropriate to kick someone when they're down.

No im saying you are a spiteful petty little man
You were then and you are now

No hiding away from the fact today was a complete disaster. I think NA got tactics, formation and selection all wrong. I also think that he has over estimated the ability of some of the the players selected. Unlike his predecessor however I think he will recognise all of this and act on it. His track record shows he is capable of achieving what we need him to so I not going to panic just yet.

This all makes sense mate but only if the board back him, either by buying players of better quality or by offering to pay the big percentage of decent loan players wages.

Mate, taking away the failure that past season was and the predicted sacking of Cluff, We have spent the time since Adkins signed saying things like:

" ... he's an experienced manager at this level ... "

" ... he's got previous for getting clubs out of this division ... "

" ... he will motivate the payers in a different way ... "

" ... his contacts in the game ... "

" ... Nigel will fix it ... "

" ... we'll sign players ... you'll see ... "

And yet, as the new season loomed ever closer, the optimists built their case that the saviour had arrived and the touchpaper was lit.

What happened today?

I'll tell you what happened today. Sheffield fucking Wednesday beat a team on the first day of the new season at Swills, whereby Sheffield United couldn't beat them on the first day of last season at BDTBL. Instead we got goosefatted by a pretty average side with out team containing pretty much the same players as last time we went to Priestfield and put in an abject performance last season.

I want people now to understand what the fuck I mean when I bang on about what a fucking charlatan and shyster McCabe is. He needs to apologise to ALL Sheffield United fans about his real intent about bringing the apparently wealthy Saudi prince on board and go public about what other individuals actually do with and for the club, and open his honesty out as to how much he really wants the team playing Premiership football within five years. The clock is ticking since that last statement. The Championship and Premiership still have a fucktonne of released players and transfer listed players who can ably replace the Div 2 and Conference level cloggers we have, and they cost money. We are not going to be promoted with even Mourinho in charge with the players we have, so any fantasies and illusions supporters have with regard Adkins being the solution need to stop taking the drugs they are on and face the reality.

Tell you what though. we'll have the best fucking playing surface outside the top three divisions next season if this shit continues.

pommpey

Not like you to hold back and be so reserved mate, what's wrong? :)
