Collins approach to Long was a disgrace

Not seen todays game but Long's MOTM performances in the play offs for Motherwell were much better than daisy cutter stopper, he had moved ahead of Howard ln those performances.
Youre putting too much emphasis on the one off performance there.

Did you see that match? Did he command his area? I've never once seen it happen and you simply can't defend in front of keeping like that.

Being less shit than the alternative ( I don't agree for the record) isn't a solution.

So lying to fans is acceptable? He didn't have to blame anyone, it was easy to deflect. I'm sure he's faced tougher questioning than Radio Sheffield (like Blue Peter of something). Just a point of principle.
If lying to the fans makes the team perform better then yes, I am quite happy for him to tell little lies like that. Quite frankly I couldn't care less if he tells white lies in order to not crush the confidence of our defence. Besides, as he's alluded, it's a team effort and the team is to blame so he's not even technically lying, just being a bit economical with the truth.
How would you deflect a question on your feet like, "Were the centre backs to blame for the 3 goals?"

Howard had had many a good game for the blades. Long has always been dodgy. Don't get me wrong I'd bring a new keeper in but at the moment Howard is far better than long.

"Everyone plays a part in defending set-pieces, and as a team and a unit we failed to put into practice what I've been seeing on the training ground."

Shall we agree to disagree on this?

See, he's blaming the team, not singling out certain people which is good. He says it's not the fault explicitly of the defence (even if he is aware that they played a significant role like we all are).
Yeah sure.

I was convinced it was from my position to the left hand side of the open end, looked to me like Collins headed it in.

Just watched it on C5. Pretty certain Collins headed it straight in under no pressure at all. Went over Egan and Basham. Yet Adkins says it was not a centre halves fault. I suppose Collins could not mark himself

Not a one off, both games were MOTM performance's, at the same time we were dropping points to daisy cutters.

Can only call it as I see it.

I've not blamed any player for any goal today because I didn't go and don't comment on things I've not seen.

What I have seen are shite performance's from Collins over the last three years.

2 good performances (did you actually see those then?) after flopping at numerous lower league loans doesn't make him our number 1. Howard was really good for long spells last season, and fell away at the end with the rest of the defence.

I'm not sure what Collins has to do with that though? We can all agree we need defensive signings.

Watching on my phone so not easy to tell but thought the 3rd was an OG at the time and still looks like that now?
I've played it several times and Egan is nowhere near it. A Collins OG. Well at least we know one centre half can get his head on the ball at set pieces.

so lying is acceptable in public interviews? He could easily have phrased his response to avoid it completely, but he told a straight-up lie. Surely being lied to by NA is worse than anything NC did?
heh.. get a grip. it's called man management. something NC seemed to lack

>>Nobody wanted Collins back in really, it was just a convenient stick to hit clough with
yes but initiated by sheer desperation.. we've been on a downward slide since Doyle and Collins joined. time to put this to bed

Who else would you have played at centre half then?

Adkins should have brought someone in , either a season long loan or signed . A lesson learnt against GIllingham but could be carried over to Chesterfield if not resolved. OK you just cannot blame the CB pairing for a 4-0 defeat , but in truth it was a disaster waiting to happen. I suppose ( which is not a good thing ) , the club , manager , players and fans will all be in shock with this one . However the positive - Norwich lost there first match 7-1 the year they got promoted .
You , me and every other blade knew we had a major weak link . Adkins cannot work wonders , we have no divine right to beat any team in this division , but we should be prepared and get rid of any risk factor.

That new scout bloke , as now got to show how good he is and earn his money .

Wonder if the players feel that they let us down , whilst they are having there Cornflakes , this morning.

Just listened to the Adkins post match interview and i thought it was good. The radio is not the place to lay blame . ALL the players will have got a bollocking in the dressing room , He will have kept his council on the coach going home , and will run through the match positives and negatives , at the players meeting match analysis on Monday.

You cannot always blame the goalkeeper , but there still seems to be a lack of communication , who marks who at set pieces . The team should defend as a team and attack as a team and we didnt do that .

I am taking this game as a blessing in disguise , as it as put our feet firmly back on the ground , and start thinking as a league 1 club and not a club with championship / premiertship asperations.

11 players are to blame , not one individual , but the issue is made worst , because we are still short of a good CB and 11 leaders. At least we appear to have the facility of finances to resolve this , many clubs havent.

Adkins has to use the biggest bank in the world , the favour bank , to bring some more players in . Whether another goalkeeper is on that list - thats up to him.

41% of forum members wanted to start with Long!

It's bad form if Collins has gone over the top with him, but are we really expecting promotion with a keeper who still needs wrapping in cotton wool?

UTB

Collins wasn't the only one having a go at Long yet the two players in question stood rooted to the spot as the ball came in.

I'm not quite sure what George was trying after the Gills player had completely blocked him from getting the ball - George looked like he was trying to punch the ball somewhere - anywhere!

However my friend, they sacked their manager and brought in Paul Lambert, !
Realistically, a 4-0 defeat in hindsight is a far better result than say a 1-0 or 2-0 - At least now Mr Adkins will know the size of his task and the expectation of the support
With a 1-0 defeat he could have put it down to the ball not running for the Blades or bad luck or lucky goal or one individual error !
Now he knows that the defence and the goalkeeper are certainly not good enough !
I would put the blame fairly and squarely with Billy Big Boots - He should have scored five and we would all be happy !

I suspect the biscuit tin owned by McCabe is empty.

The financial support promised by the Board, once again, has not yet materialised. Hopefully they don't leave it until the end of January again to open the cheque book or we can kiss goodbye to any dreams of promotion for yet another season !!

I think Long is fouled for the first one, with the player backing into him.

The referee looked at his linesman for a long time before giving the 1st goal - he looked to me like he wanted someone else to make the decision for him. At the time, I thought the biggest question mark was whether or not someone touched it or not.

I think we were a bit unfortunate that it was allowed.

Another OG?
