Collins approach to Long was a disgrace

I think he's trying to not play the public blame game. He knows full well who is at fault or at least will when he re-watches the match on DVD later. If he starts singling out players he'll start lowering their confidence more than it already is like Clough seemed to. I trust him to identify the problems and bring in suitable replacements even if it does take a little longer to get them in. If he can't turn this around then I don't for the life of me know who will.
Too late to trust him. We are two wins behind those that won today an why would any CB come to a side that is struggling, too late and its ok the first game.

The board must take a lot of blame for this, did they discuss the problems with our defence at the interviews?
Did they get a plan off Adkins as to how he would sort it? If they did get a plan why have they not ensured it was instigated?

I suspect there was no plan. If there was we fucked up big time.

By the way, not sure if I've mentioned it but WE NEED THREE CENTRE HALVES.

Problem is, he said they weren't at fault. Which is either a ridiculous lie or he's lost it. I have a bad feeling about this.

He was saying he didn't want to blame any individual as it was a team failure, but then said that,
He said they weren't at fault because he didn't want to pick out any individuals. I don't quite understand what you're saying as I don't believe he has contradicted himself.

We are a win and a draw behind. Money, big club, the chance to work under a manager with an impressive CV and it's only the first game of the season, not January.

It's optimism like that that has seen us fucking about in the third division for too long.

We should have sorted it before we were relegated not now five years too late.

Collins attitude has always been bad from what I've seen on the pitch. He always looks to blame others when something goes wrong or when he cocks up.

I can't believe 5 seasons later he is still lining up as our first choice centre half.
Its ambition, Sheffield united style. Back to the past, it then becomes your preferred future

I don't think our centre halves were at fault for the 3 goals. 4 minutes in. That's what he says. He also says George Long is a very good keeper.

Obviously we should have done but we haven't and we have to live with that. Nigel Adkins isn't a miracle worker, I'm sure he'll get it right. He's undoubtedly found out a lot today and if this isn't a kick up the backside then I don't know what is.
Don't forget, when he went to Southampton in September 2010 they were bottom of the league, by May they were 2nd. He can turn this around, it's only the first game. No need to hit the panic button just yet. Yes we do need centre halves in and he's been trying to get players in in that area (as he's stated in interviews). For whatever reason, those deals haven't gone through yet. Pieces need to slot into place, it's not as simple as just going out and picking whoever he wants.

I think this may explain why Clough froze him out of the squad.
Clough is also a bully. A shit centre half, say Collins, may start bullying a young keeper like Long, who is fading and will perhaps end up in non league eventually. Nosworthy was noted on several occasions to be bullying young players,at the lane a,few, seasons back. Not big, nor clever. Doesn't make themselves less shite, either.

We need three 3rd division centre halves not some fucker to take us to the Champions League final and to win it.

I was convinced it was from my position to the left hand side of the open end, looked to me like Collins headed it in.
Definite own goal. Well done Neill Collins. Third anniversay of his, equaliser v the mighty Burton Albion prior to going out on pens.

Exactly, he's trying not to play the public blame game. I'm sure in private he is aware of what caused the goals that went in (notably the defence). He's stated in interviews that he wants 5/6 players on the pitch that carry an aerial threat (for set pieces) and given that 3 of their goals came from that it's quite likely he understands what was at fault. Just because he doesn't say it out loud like Clough doesn't mean he doesn't know it in private.

I'm not saying that we don't! Have you even been reading what I'm saying? I know we need defenders, all I'm saying is that Adkins is the man to bring those defenders in and it's not too late to write this season off as you appear to have done from your posts.

Agents will have been hammering on his door with centre halves, as I've said we only need 3rd division players, we don't need to break the bank.

I suspect the biscuit tin owned by McCabe is empty.

so lying is acceptable in public interviews? He could easily have phrased his response to avoid it completely, but he told a straight-up lie. Surely being lied to by NA is worse than anything NC did?

We already have a 3rd division centre half in Collins and what is he like? Crap. McEveley was 3rd division standard before here and although he is out of postion he is evidently not good enough to be starting week in week out. To get out of this division you need better than 3rd division players, or at least someone from the high end which isn't easy to come by either.
I'm not saying we need someone who can win us the bleeding champions league but to settle for more crap is just dumb. It's like when people were calling for Collins to be brought back into the side. How much better was he in reality? Not much based on today's performance.

Collins is a disgrace full stop. I've said it before and I'll say it again, he isn't good enough to be in our squad let alone first 11. He's a disaster waiting to happen. It isn't the first time he has turned on one of his team mates during a game and probably won't be the last. As an experienced pro he should realise that mistakes happen no matter how pissed you get, you don't turn on a team mate. If you have something to say then do it behind closed doors. Get rid soon as possible...if he's that good like some supporters think then he'll have no problem finding a new club. Oh wait, makes me wonder why no one has come in for him yet???

As he's always done. There could be a lengthy compilation clip on YouTube made of all his mares. A joke that he started today and is even still at the club

It's bad form if Collins has gone over the top with him, but are we really expecting promotion with a keeper who still needs wrapping in cotton wool?

If you're a manager and you start slagging off your employees publicly then you're playing a dangerous game. You never see top managers doing that. They don't single out individuals because it hurts player confidence which is one of the most important things.
I'm sure he knows what the problems are, I'm sure he's going to make the players at fault aware in person, rather than doing it behind their backs and publicly embarrassing them. Besides, were those goals solely the fault of the CBs? Most likely not, so it would be dumb to single them out when basically the whole team played their part in the defeat today.
He doesn't need to tell

Collins along with Doyle are big contributors as to why we are where we are, can the management not see that?

If they can why are we letting Collins near the team, if we can't see it I give up.

So lying to fans is acceptable? He didn't have to blame anyone, it was easy to deflect. I'm sure he's faced tougher questioning than Radio Sheffield (like Blue Peter of something). Just a point of principle.

Not seen todays game but Long's MOTM performances in the play offs for Motherwell were much better than daisy cutter stopper, he had moved ahead of Howard ln those performances.

Yes they are but he'll remain in the team until we get someone better. If we get more standard 3rd division defenders we will remain in the 3rd division and have the same problems.

Is marking from a corner just down to the two centre backs?
