Does Carver count? Him.

But he's the best coach in the Premier League.

The dinosaur Kevin Blackwell. At least Robson could attract players.

the only time I contemplated not going to the Lane was when Robson was manager, .......

This thread makes bad reading on all things SUFC over the years . Its not only the managers , what about the chairman and board members , who employed them in the first place , and helped to drop us in the shit , big style.

Robson edges Weir out as the worst in my lifetime. Simply because of the money he squandered and the players he alienated, hiring Robson was the beginning of our slippy slope to where we are today. Weir had little time and funds to improve a very poor squad that he inherited.

1. Robson
2. Weir
3. Heath
4. Adams
5. Blackwell

I was only 3 when Bassett took over so since then:

Weir
Heath
Robson
Adams
Blackwell

Blackwell was draining to watch at times but results:expectation wise he was way ahead of the other four.

David Weir
Adrian Heath
Steve Thomson
Then probably Robson and Morgs. In Robson's favour, though, is that he actually signed good players. He just couldn't get them playing.

I thought about Thomson, wasn't he the dumpling responsible for us signing Ian Hamilton? But then I remembered the FA Cup game(s) vs. Coventry, he gets a pass for that.

Possibly, yes. Who was it that signed Jonathan Hunt? If they aren't on my list, that should be enough for them to gain entry!

I recall that Thomson is responsible for Chris Wilder pt.2, Ian Hamilton and Paul Devlin.

Jonathan Hunt was Nigel Spackman I believe, I think we signed Hunt & Derry on the same day.

Of the mangers mentioned so far, have anything them gone on to have any success? Or were they all crap elsewhere?

It's quite unbelievable that Adrian Heath now manages Kaka

Was going to post that myself , every time I watch MLS , and Orlando are being shown I shake my
head in disbelief, Adrian fucking Heath .

i can only say from 1998 because i rather go on memory & personal experience than stats other people opinions

David Weir - by far & away the worst manager ive ever seen & probably ever will because its not possible to be worse. as to start 1 win in 13 games, goal drought was so bad jose baxter won the sufc goal of mth comp by default as he scored the only goal in that mth & Hartlepool JPT was horrendous i remember watching the final 1/2hr knowing i watch the end of a reign doesn't help when the away fans sing sacked n the morning & the home fans join in

Adrian Heath - cant say much as was my 1st season but remember thinking surely were better than this & glad warnock came in to save us, because can you imagine sliding into the 3rd tier in 1999 5 yrs after being in the premier league unthinkable surely ;)

Micky Adams - i do truly believe micky adams was a good appointment at the wrong time, as we were a sinking ship & no one would've saved us also did give me 1 of my fav wins v forest when we hadnt won for 3 months but micky adams motivating was a problem as he made avram grant sound like the happiest man on planet

Bryan Robson - because he wouldve made a better Director of football as he could attract the players but couldnt get them to produce results
-------------------
yes that is 4 but problem is that i looked on managers in my time of watching sheff utd & likes of bruce warnock blackwell speed wilson clough morgs have all had their high as well as low points or mitigating circumstances

As they say on The Weakest Link, statistically the weakest were (win percentage)
Weir 7.69
Adams 16.67
Peters 18.75
Sirrel 24.69
McEwan 31.40
And the strongest?
Clough 56.67
Wilson 51.89
Spackman 46.51
Porterfield 43.36
Warnock 42.53
Blackwell 42.40
Make of it what you will. Crap managers getting good results, crap managers getting bad results, and so on. Unfortunately, where we are now it is definitely about results regardless of performance. Hopefully, Adkins can deliver both.

Hunt was signed the following year by Bruce at the same time as Kozluk in a swap deal for Borbokis. I think we Hunt on loan before though and he never impressed.

Spackman signed Derry though and I think it was on the same day as Jon Cullen. It wasn't cheap either.

There really is only David Weir that can come anywhere close to taking Bryan Robson's crown, but David Weir actually tried to get us playing good football. Robson was more concerned about drinking

Wasn't Jon Cullen the full back who, when asked by the local media if he was looking forward to it, replied "yes, they think I'm a striker."?

He was absolutely terrible.
