Good point. If Clough's sacking was the Prince's decision, there's a decent chance someone he knows from his Saudi club is being lined up.

Both Eric Gerets and Cosmin Olaroiu enjoyed success in their short spells at Al Hilal (nobody lasts long in Gulf football) and both are currently coaching club sides in UAE, so might be tempted if the money is right.

Also seem to remember the Prince mentioning Gerets in an interview when he joined.

I think we had all come round to the thinking that Clough would be here next season , and thankfully he had realised his short comings , and was going to be in the market for CB , midfielder , and forward . It would not surprise me if the disagreement and departing of ways came , because the players named were from one club - Derby County.

This may well have been the straw that broke the camels back , with Clough thinking he was standing on concrete but actually on quick sand .

Hi guys, preston fan here.

Got to say surprised to see they have sacked Clough, with the season you had.

It has taken Pne 4 years to build the club again from the base up, got rid of the deadwood and bad attitudes in season 1.

Season 2 appointing a decent manager and building a better squad.

Season 3 we made the semi play offs, did disappointingly but stood by the manager.

Season 4 completed the squad with a couple of clever signings, hung around auto for the rest of the season, failed last day, rest is history.

Thing is there's some half decent clubs in league 1, all capable of beating each other on the day. We went through to our fourth manager in a short period, but learnt that stability is the key and building a really good defence, more for the players more than the manager. I thought sheff United were on the same path as us but a year behind and Clough would have taken. You up next season.

Good luck with whoever you get and good look for the coming season. Always have enjoyed my visits to bramall lane, even though we got beat most of the time.

Clough's final year of his contract will need to be paid off, and that won't be cheap. Also his entire backroom staff bar Morgan will need to be paid off. We'll also need to offer a good salary to the incoming manager and allow him to bring in his team. This isn't going to be cheap for us at all. We could end up paying out a million quid to replace Clough with Parkinson

Whatever happened to the plan to stop being a sacking club? We gave Clough a three year contract and we were "sure" he was the right man.. We were one goal away from the Play Off Final this season, and one goal away from the League Cup Final. It wasn't perfect but the improvement was definitely there. Clough has built this squad, and knows the players better than anyone else. Now we're back to square one and a number of the players' futures will be in doubt. And of course we've no replacement lined up and the current candidates have a worse win ratio than Clough. Next season the new manager will be under intense pressure knowing that he'll likely be sacked if we don't go up in his first season in charge.

So regardless of whether Clough or A.N. Other is in charge next season, we'd be looking at a new manager if promotion isn't achieved. Don't see the problem myself.

If a manager is scared off by a challenge then perhaps he's not the man(or woman) we want. At least the new person will know we've got to set out to win games.

Agreed. Nothing wrong with a bit of pressure. It gives the drive to succeed.

I don't like saying I told you so but for most of the season I have said that Nigel is not the right person for SUFC , I have been called all names under the sun for being anti NC , as I said a few times , I had inside info and warned everybody of this day , roll on next season

Looks that way. Smacks of poor decision-making yet again by the board. I'm sure that Clough was stubborn, but they knew that before they hired him. Sounds like it could have been a kneejerk reaction after the meeting on Sunday. Hope I'm wrong.
