I think he will be able to pick & choose where he goes next, can't see him leaving the south for a minute.

Absolutely bang on Nick, near to being a premiership manager at one point. Never in a million years will he come near this club at present, lets try to be realistic. JFH for me if he can be tempted.

To be honest - I am surprised at this news, but that's the price of failure. I wonder if he had any performance clauses in his contract ?? Onwards and Upwards !!!!!!!!!

Can't say I'm sad to see him leave but I'm surprised at the decision as if they were going to get rid then surely the time was just after the Swindon match, not two weeks later. Of course, they may have someone lined up but the club statement doesn't suggest that in my opinion.

must have been some sort of fallout, surely if he was going to be sacked based on his performance they wouldn't have waited for him to decide the retained list, then do a video on him and then sack him?
Which all suggests they didn't have a replacement until now.

Wouldn't it have been mutual consent and not sacked if it was a fall out?

Surprised that they waited until now to do it, what changed in the last two weeks?

Not sure who I want next. I don't want any journeymen that have been drakking around from job to job for the sake of getting someone with experience

I think this is a terrible decision, what is the point in building anything nowadays

But what has he built? We've a rank average squad, who can all leave for my money. We have a negative style of football and there has been no improvement, in fact we have regressed, since Clough started at the club.

We all wanted Clough to succeed, but there was no clear plan or progression which suggested next season would have been any different. It's a shame, but I happen to agree with this decision, assuming the next appointment is an improvement of course!

Maybe the board have been seeing what else is out there before getting rid of Clough?

You don't dump your girlfriend until you have a better bird lined up.

Bit of a delay due to Phipps flying out to meet the Prince

Only got back in the country a few days ago

Must admit, the way Clough had been laying out his plans for next seasons targets, thought he'd been given the nod that everything was ok

I'd have personally given Clough till Christmas but there we go...

Who are the options (I sense a poll coming!) :)

Adkins - Done it before in this division (cue Billy Sharp rumours if he does come!)
Brian McDermot - Think he is still out of work...
Warburton - Obvious choice but would he have better offers?
Big Sam - No thanks, not sure he would come anyway
Karl Robinson - Seems to have a soft spot for the Blades, would he see us as a better long term option?
Mark Cooper - Coukd he be tempted from Swindon?
Lee Clark - Did well in this division but not great in the Championship
Darren Ferguson - Similar to Clark...

I'm sure there are others... Any of the top 3 for me...
