Personally, I think the players should just grow some balls and prove us wrong that we think they are bottlers. Simple.

And there are times when a players wins a 50/50 that it lifts the crowd, or when you see Murphy running at defenders in the 2nd half, unlike his first half. Managers also impact how players play. Look at Chelsea tonight. Terry said at half time that Jose ripped them a new one, now look at the performance. Or was it the fans who lifted the players this evening?

As I said, you don't get one without the other, and I would imagine looking back at it, Doyle would admit he wasn't good enough back then. Everyone keeps telling me how good he has been since then.

You're missing my point totally. I agree with your points made above. My comments are made against people who say fans can't influence the game. They clearly can

I can't believe people are seriously questioning this.

Obviously teams will score when their fans are quiet and they will score when fans are loud. It's not an exact science that you only score when your fans are singing.

But, when you're up against it and your legs have gone and you've been knocking on the door for 89 minutes without success and the crowd suddenly crank up a notch at a corner or throw-in in a dangerous area. Are you saying that doesn't lift the players? When it's 0-0 and the board goes up for 5 extra minutes, the place lifts and the team have one last crack.

What you are saying is that the common term "12th man" means jack shit.

It means that players that gee the crowd up by waving their arms in an upward direction know jack shit too. How many times have you seen players look at their fans and ask them to crank the noise up? Do they just like lifting their hands up and down or do they think it will help lift the players?

In the same way that you can get talked out of a game by the opposing CB sledging you all game, the crowd can lifts the players.

What about 'when you've played shit and are 1-2 down at home against former Conference side Fleetwood Town'?

Do you expect three sides of Bramall Lane to crank it up to encourage us to equalise?

Against former Conference side Fleetwood Town?

I think you are expecting a bit too much from those unlucky souls who watch every game at BDTBL this season

Like me?

Why should it be any different? We go behind at Wembley v Hull or at home to Spurs and the crowd lifts to encourage the players. Yes its disappointing to concede to Fleetwood but why not crank it up and encourage the players? We should do it more so against the shittier teams. Isn't our ground meant to be intimidating for the smaller clubs who can only dream of 18k+ crowds? Then we should do just that - intimidate the poxy little shithouse clubs

It's different, because Sheff Utd play Hull at Wembley or Spurs in the second leg of a semi final we are playing teams of greater footballing worth, both financially and capability-wise.

Fleetwood? At Bramall Lane in a League One match? Do you really, really expect all supporters to get animated and enthused when we ship two goals in ten minutes in the first half? We played for the next hour one goal behind. I suppose you expect every song in the Sheffield United supporter's canon to be heartily sung out and we struggle to get one back and then fail during the entire second half to penetrate, even with six shots on target.

"Sing Up, Shoreham!"

"Fuck off!"

pommpeyI agree that it's harder to get excited by playing (and losing) to Fleetwood Town as opposed to Spurs but, the original point was that fans "don't/can't influence a game". This is utter bollocks. Nobody wants to sing when we're losing to Fleetwood, Crewe or Peterborough at home. What i'm saying is that if the fans did sing, it would have a positive effect on the players.

I give in.

I'll go and talk to next door's cat. I can say anything to that and the response will be "meow" which has no relevance to what I said to the cat in the first place. Very much like this forum.

I suspect if you look deep into the cat's eyes he's saying "Sorry, you're talking bollocks mate", just sounds like "meow" to you.

Meowwwww.

And you're missing mine. The players and manager can clearly impact the fans too. It's a two way street so lay off the fans until you fancy laying into the guys lacking bottle.
