The clue there silent is "after the game"I was one of the "Porterfield out" mob but wasnt in the car park after that 5-2 defeat against Norwich. He was signing old players on high wages and kept dropping Edwards

Just what my mate said to me the other day. " You think that was bad? Wait until a 530pm kick off a sunny bank hol wknd"
Shit.
Do you get paid ridiculous amounts of money to do something you love ???In my career I can't think of a single week when I've put in 100% effort every single minute of every single day and I like to think I'm a grafter. It's human nature. Some of the bile that is spilled by some SUFC fans is off the scale. Are we giving 100% every game?
I was a part time Blade in the 1980s until we appointed Bassett. What I remember about that season (I went to about half the home games and the only away match I went was at Huddersfield) was that the team was nicknamed "The Dad's Army", we had a strange mixture of good wins against teams that finished in top half of the table and poor defeats against teams in the bottom half, low attendances, fans shouts of "Porterfield out" was louder than in the previous three seasons, fans writing to the Green Un criticising Porterfield but I do not remember if any of the players that season were constantly singled out for criticism (If so, then who were they?)There you go: remember The abuse dished out at home to Boro, Millwall, Carlisle and Fulham ( and we won the last 2 games!)?
The idea that we were a more tolerant bunch then is a myth.
Yesterday we weren't giving 100% effort in the first half, this is not acceptable. All our fans want is maximum effort to the best of their ability and to me they haven't given that on a number of occasions this season including yesterday, no where near.footballers I was surprised to find out are human beings
as such they have good days , they have bad days
Ive seen Ronaldo miss open goals , and hit shots 20 yard above a bar
Ive seen niesta misplace a pass that cost Barcelona a game and Messi miss a penalty
I think its totally unfair to expect our ten bob players to be 100% perfect in every 90 minutes they play
Until we start using mistake free robots to play football we will get the odd bit of dross
commensurate with the quality of players we have
After a slow start we are gathering a pace as a team and as such individuals are playing better, and will be an unstoppable machine in May ,
If it works to the handbook guide
No definitely not - I go to more away games than home games and one of the more depressing aspects is the negativity that seems to have increased over the last 10 or 20 years. Not sure if its the economic climate in Sheffield that has caused it but its not fun being surrounded by a bunch of whingersThis can't be right? I thought the only moaners were at home matches?!?

We live in a society of jam today not tomorrow
True. If all the United players 'put in 100%', what if the opposition also 'put in 100%'? Can't all be winners.
On reflection I may have been overly harsh with my comments and I apologise. I can see the faults in Clough and the team the same as anyone but for me some fans just jump on Clough (and certain players) when things don't go as we wish yet appear reluctant at times to acknowledge a good performance. We were actually talking about creating goal chances and getting men into the final third, at least I was. To my mind that is worthy debate on a fans forum . I think it is the biggest single weakness all season. Looking back it was out of place on this thread.
If my posts are interpreted as you state " gutted if we play well" and "sad" then I regret that, I believe I am as big a Blade as the next fan and have supported them through thick and thin over centuries it seems like. You should sit near me at games and take a view whether I am behind the team.
For you to say what you did and to get 3 "likes" makes me think a bit to be honest. What is the point of a forum if you don't post what you think and believe?
Surely at the end of the day a balance is struck between us all and that is the genuine value we create between us.
In my view Clough has too many weaknesses and has made too many mistakes throughout this season; we are nowhere near where we should be. Personally I think I am right to point out those areas because at this point in time I don't think he'll take the club forward well enough. I do air all my concerns and wish I didn't have any, like last season.
If we go up I fear our manager will be exposed all the more. BTW I do think we'll sneak up and sincerely hope we do as I had a big bet on us at the beginning of the season when I thought we were certainties.
What do all you superfans do when the players arent putting it in ?
Just so the rest of us whingers know how to behave
Football is a tough sport and sometimes the detached cosseted pampered little babys need to know that the fans who support them and pay their hard earned money to go and watch them acrually give a shit unlike them
seems to me that to expect the players to try for 90 mins or even for more than two full games is some kind of unrealistic expectation that the council estate pond dwellers from sheffield shouldnt have the right to expect and so what if some of the language they use to express this is a bit unsavoury if you dont like it go to the fucking opera where everyone behaves like a gentleman or a lady
Im sure the players dont give a shit what the fans think of them if they did they would put a shift on from the moment they run out of the tinnel and not when they are 2 down at oldham with the manager reminding them of their responsibilitys
It's been said so many times before on here but with FFP rules and the difference between our average crowd and the 2nd highest ( about two thirds of ours) ... We should be doing much better than what we are and by that I mean doing a Bristol city on this league.
If my expectations are too high then feel free to shoot me down
However where I am sure expectations don't differ and this will bring me back to the OP of whingers..
1) I expect 100 percent effort every single week from every single player for every single minute of the game
2) I expect from pro footballers at least some elements of quality - and at least the simple things done well
3) I expect that training all week will provide results from set plays etc .
4) we really played entertaining football and went for it a bit more ( second half at Oldham eg)
Yes it's league 1 and no we don't have household names... But my own view is that if we could say honestly that we had a "yes" to all 4of the above and it still didn't work out ... There would be a lot less whingeing ... Not none , but less !!
so if we were all as good fans as you we would be in champions league every year ?You just don't get it do you ? The clue is in 'supporter' and giving us an advantage rather than the opposition.
So am I. But I am quite regularly critical of Clough too.I'm really bored with people slagging off Clough and the team every time we suffer a minor setback.
Do you ever feel any negative emotions watching your team ? Or do you burn a lighter under the palm of your hand whenever you think nasty thoughts ?footballers I was surprised to find out are human beings

That's not how I see it: that's how it was.
And how it's always been: if they play badly, some people boo.
I for one am really bored with people slagging off fellow supporters who have the temerity not to agree 100% with what Clough and the club do, or express displeasure when the team plays poorly. There's some excellent debate on this board but it's spoiled by this whinging.
I used to watch Maidenhead United now and again when I lived down there and will never forget a players dad smacking a fan for calling his son a useless twat or something similar.
As I was leaving the ground at the end of the game the committee were stood on the terrace busy discussing what they were going to do about the incident.
You remember when we were really shit? I do - it was in the 1st half at Oldham yesterday.
4th season in L1.....miles behind the top 2. Yes, we have had worse teams - but not many in our 125 year history.
I agree there is a gulf between the team/manager and the fans at the moment - but I think that is more down to far too many poor / negative performances this season than anything else.
Got me thinking about a very amusing incident witnessed by a mate at a Sheffield FC match a few years back.
It was a Sheffield FC v Woodley FA Cup tie and one of the Woodley substitutes was sent off from the bench having got into some verbals with a supporter. As he headed off, the Woodley player inadvisably continued his exchange of verbals with the brawny Sheffield FC supporter, at which point the supporter picked up a large waste bin and tipped it over his head - pie remains, bovril cups, rainwater, tab ends - the lot! Even worse, for the player concerned, he found himself wedged inside the bin, so was walking around with it stuck over his head and upper body with the contents dropping out around his ankles. You couldn't make it up.

On reflection I may have been overly harsh with my comments and I apologise. I can see the faults in Clough and the team the same as anyone but for me some fans just jump on Clough (and certain players) when things don't go as we wish yet appear reluctant at times to acknowledge a good performance.
For example fans where blaming Clough at the game yesterday when the players made errors and called for subs to be made. The same fans then moaned when we made two subs at half time as he didn't bring their preferred players on. They didn't even clap when we scored let alone cheer.
I don't think if we go up Clough would be exposed as he kept Derby in that division and McClaren is currently showing how difficult it us to get out of the Championship. My criticisms of Clough are not sorting the centre half position early and having a team that doesn't play on the front foot for more than half a game at a time.
The ludicrous situation of some fans calling for Clough to be sacked with 6 games to go just shows some haven't learned the lessons of the past.
If we don't go up, and bearing in mind the budget he has, the autos are the only target next season. If we go up, mid table would be fine in the first season back.
for me it's as good a time to be Blade as any in all my time supporting the club.
Most teams play well above themselves against us it's their cup finalTrue. If all the United players 'put in 100%', what if the opposition also 'put in 100%'? Can't all be winners.

I think it's a great time to be a Blade for all sorts of reasons.
The club and the manager have my wholehearted support.
I may reassess support for the management if we don't progress next season, but for now for me it's as good a time to be Blade as any in all my time supporting the club.
And I'm really glad to be able to bring along Foulkes Jr Sr to something well worth supporting.
We have a long term plan in place for the club. The approach is as good as it could be. I hope it pays off. It might not, but the club has my full support in what it is trying to do at the moment.
