Not forgetting Wimbledon's 2 am response to Trader!Sitwell v Trader was a true highlight in those days
Is this Rob or Boozy? All the best to you all!
I have been on BU and on this site for about 12 years now. I must hold the record for the length of time served without any kind of ban, which just shows what a well adjusted chap I am. Or that people are scared I will sue them.
Highlight of my time is, of course, that kind anonymous person outing me on BU. I would be curious to know who that was. I bear him no ill will anymore. If he is around I wonder if he has the guts to fess up.
Must say I did like the threads on unitedite.
The banter between you, BM, SV, raul and BoSS was hilarious at times.
Yes I remember! I had Kabba on my shirt one year so probably sometimes respected your views regardless of merit!I didn't post very often but i was KabbaDabbaDoo on the old BU
Never knew Dkc = Copes... live and learn! I think Step was done over a bit with the expectations of the old forums, I can't remember exactly but I think the thankless task element just got the better of him. It wasn't really his place to ensure we all kept in touch so the site just closed. To be fair, it was the early days of internet camaraderie but does anybody remembers the original BU football game, vs Crewe, 33 of us turned up and apart from the odd 2s/3s who knew each other and muttered to each other in tongues, it was a rabid infection of shyness across the board? People who had agreed, disagreed, laughed and despaired with each other like they were brothers could barely bring themselves to acknowledge one and other (being terminally shy there was none more guilty of that than me that day). In the end, Colin split us all into three groups of 11 to ensure there would actually be any kind of cohesion at all. I met a couple of people who knew who I was and introduced themselves to me but generally it was a look at the floor affair. If friendships weren't forged strongly enough on the closing of BU, its not really Webbo's fault.
I think my most memorable introduction to an Blades forum member was old Bert himself at Hillsborough, after the soon to be dubbed 'Lion Of Hillsborough' stuck away the winner. He leaned over to me in the queue down the steps, made an in joke and disappeared into the crowd with a chuckle.
UTB
Ah was it?? Oh well.. blue and white stripe confusion makes me appear less senile.Didn't play in that game, but played in another one away v The Motley Crewe where kick-off was delayed because the kit lady (Mousey's late Mum) couldn't find the ground. Having ambled around at right back for 80 minutes, I was subbed when we were 2-0 down and "we" won 3-2, despite having Greenwich in goal.
I also played in a game at Abbeydale against the oinkers, when we drew 2-2 and Staffs Blade did all my running for me. Step played too and I introduced myself using my real name and he said it was easier for him to use aliases. As mine was justoutsidestokeblade, it meant that calling for the ball was a drawn out process
pup, I think you've misremembered the venue when you had a brief audience with Bert. I'm pretty sure it was away at WBA. I was the one who pointed you out to him and the in joke referred to a one tune banjo. That was the day when one of Bert's suppliers got him tickets for the game and they turmed out to be in the home end. Bert diplomatically resolved the situation by reasoning with one of West Midlands' finest and we transferred under escort to the away stand. The supplier became an ex-supplier first thing Monday morning
Is was good, wasn't it?
I'm still BoSS but the field name when S2 last changed servers was too short for the full monicker, hence BornOnShoreham.
Maybe I should have used BornOnShore'mSt
Been around a long time, started with suisa, then BU, Unditedite and BOM then get fed up for a while and took my time coming on here, read it from the start but only signed up last year.Yep it was a good laugh and good to see most of the members on there moved to this forum.
Dont remember either of them..did you post much?I was registered on BOM as Spy, before that on Unitedite as Ghostshark.
Only now and again, but each one was gold.Dont remember either of them..did you post much?
Been thinking and still can't remember...remember raul, rodders, BOSS, DKC, spaffmonkey etcOnly now and again, but each one was gold.
LS26 blade, I remember him.Been thinking and still can't remember...remember raul, rodders, BOSS, DKC, spaffmonkey etc
I started reading Viewpoints in about '98 but never posted. Signed up to Blades United as Blade Picker in about 2002 and was an intermittant at best poster, used to enjoy reading but hated the format and was solidly in the clapper clan.
After BU went kaput I signed up to here and Blades Mad and started posting mainly on BM but found it to be a mixture of bad grammar, racism, over the top mysogyny and Len de Goey so I gave it a miss. Went away from forums for a bit but decided to give this place a try last year and it has been brilliant. Lots of the old posters I used to love reading from BU, generally a higher level of intelligence than most forums I have ever been on and decent, fair, sensible admins. Oh and the T Shirts are good too
My highlights as a viewer from BU - Trying to decipher a post from Warnock's Box Blade; a user called SUPERJAGS or something similar who created about 100 new topics on BU in about a day and a half; Darren and Silent (both quality contributors) racing to be the first to tell us who scored the third against Gillingham in the third division promotion season; a poster called Duncan Disorderly who was so positive he made Blade Too Long on here look like Curtis; Curtis.

Some amazing memories here. Bladesmad was the first I signed up to under the alias I use on here (I was listening to a Boards Of Canada song called Roygbiv as I was joining up) but I do recall the old Viewpoints forum. Didn't they publish some of the quotes taken from that forum in the official programmes at one point?
Ah, Curtis and Beattie's alloys. That was a classic....
Duncan Disorderly was on here too, but flounced off after a run in with Ollessendro. Not been seen or heard of on here since.
I did wonder if it was something BoC related.
I spent many a Sunday morning in my late teens/early 20's waking up to Music has the Right to Children. After a hard chemically enhanced Saturday night it was the perfect tonic!
