Agree. And it's Balmy today in toytown.

He's building for next years challenge, it's obvious, if he can wing it into the play offs all well and good. But trying to " take the draw and get on the bus home" doesn't smack me as going for it.

Barmy to spend 1.5m on Brayford when we need goals, Agree or disagree?

Money well spent for now and the future . If we had not signed him , the board would have been accused of a lack of ambition. We have got boats loads of ambition imo , we just haven't got a out and out target man ,to put the ball in the back of the net , hold the ball up , on a regular basis and take the pressure off other players . Hopefully that will be sorted in the loan window.

If the plan with Higdon had worked out , we wouldn't even be discussing it.

If we paid £1.5 million it would be a ludicrous signing in this league. I doubt we did.

I said at the time it would be a ridiculous purchase given the areas we needed to strengthen.

I swear this place is becoming more bi-polar by the day...

It's not just here, it's the wider fan-base.

Heard a guy on John Street on Tuesday, who I've heard previously suggesting Clough ought to be sacked for his "treatment" of McNulty, how it's "criminal" he wasn't starting him every week, saying to his mate...

"I don't know why the useless bastard has started McNulty, it's clear as day he hasn't got goals in him".

Couldn't keep a straight face :)

If you get a chance to buy a quality player in a position we need then take it. It's pretty clear that we still had money to spend after JB, what with the bid for CoG and the signing of Done. So no complaints from me.

Clough would seem to be very choosey about where he spends the big money (rightly so), but it's now looking as though it'll take the summer window as well to repair the damage done last summer.

Massively frustrating, but if the alternative is to buy cheap and quick (the likes Alcock and Higdon), then I don't see much alternative. At least we're building a squad slowly rather than not at all.

Disagree, I firmly believe that if a quality striker, one that guarantee 20+ a season then we would spend £1m+ but this player hasn't appeared. We tried for ogrady and if Brighton hadn't changed manager he would probably be here now. Brayford was an opportunity to buy a quality player who could play at a higher level. If we were to get promoted, we wouldn't need to be looking at right backs.

I have no problem with quality like Brayford coming in, it's the signings of Done, Holt and Coutts, yet more midfielders and Freeman who wasn't much cop when here last season that I don't understand.

Brayford + one out and out goalscorer was what was needed. (And Done is a midfieder not a striker whatever line Jim Phipps tries to spin on Twitter)

Brayford is a good signing and I'm sure some of the others will prove to be.

Been watching Newcastle v Stoke, what struck me was that all the players looked like men and we look like kids.

We've got to give the kids time to become men.

I'd love to know which strikers we 'should've' been after. Doyle wasn't going to come once he had chance of playing in the Champo and O'Grady was obviously scuppered due to him finding a place in their XI, again at Championship level. Bradshaw seems like a lad who suffers with injuries and we've signed Done - who in my eyes is a good player though probably not a striker in the one-up-top mould. I bet we've paid near on 650k for him and it's difficult to argue with his record this year. There's really not that many to go around.

Very happy with the signing of Brayford. As said, if you have the chance to sign quality you do it no matter what the position.

The OTT reaction since yesterday are almost laughable but it's the same everytime we lose.

The reaction and comments for sacking the manager is OTT . In saying that i don't mind losing , its the way we lost yesterday which is unacceptable . It was a long way to go and cost money , which felt like a saturday wasted imo. Ok we lost , lets all move on but the performances , organisation and do or die commitment have to drastically improve .

Osman Sow at Hearts.

Some Blades on here watch Hearts so what do they think?

He's 6'4" so might be able to get in to our kit.

and it's not like the first time this season either, Port Vale, Coventry, MKD, spring to mind, no attempt to go and look for a win in any of those games and I am sure I have missed others out.

Agree to a certain extent but welcome additions in Brayford and Coutts, not a clue why we signed Freeman who is back up we certainly didn't need. Then we have Holt, not sure why and also Done who no matter how it is spun is a midfielder, but then having said that Negative Nigel likes players who can play multiple positions or in other word square pegs for round holes. The situation in midfield is ridiculous we could just about fill two teams with midfielders when anyone even our porcine friend Blunkett can see we have no strikers worth a toss, come to think about it we have no central defenders worth a toss either. It really is a pity we didn't put as much effort into addressing these problems as we did to bring Brayford back (the poor bugger must be wondering what he has let himself in for)

Some of our fans are very bizarre. How can you believe that it's ok for our manager to not sign a striker who would fit into our formation in his time here? Because the two strikers he was after went somewhere else or decided to stay playing at a higher level. Other clubs manage to sign strikers. We must be cursed. Can we not get Barry Fry to urinate on all four corners of the Lane? Just to be sure.

Some people will swallow almost anything.

no idea why , but i have just been thinking of Katie Price , with your last statement.:D

It's Barmy how many people can not see that Done has been signed as a striker. It's not Barmy we paid whatever we paid for Brayford. The cash was there for a striker (obvious cos of the Doyle deal) but we couldn't get the one we wanted. The 2 are not linked, despite what many people would like other people to believe

Well no one forces you to sit with the rabble on John Street :D

Fucking hell, an away defeat and we go back into the madhouse.

It was worth signing Brayford. As he is much much much better than Alcock, Flynn and Davies at RB.

I also think the signing of Done could be a real coup if he is fully fit.

The ideal situation would also be having COG back on loan but that wasn't to be.

There's been numerous threads on this precise matter since the beard arrived.

Personally I'm pleased we have signed him but it's the lack of goals that is killing us. Can't win anything without them and it puts huge pressure on everyone especially the defence - who have to keep clean sheets every time they go on the pitch to get anything out of any game.

A striker was Clough's priority towards the end of last season. It was a priority in the summer and it is still a priority. We have failed to address this and it is a massive mistake. I worry that there isn't enough goals to get us in the play offs. That said, without goals success in the play offs is extremely unlikely ---- just as before!

Brayford might be a part of "building for the future" but without doing something on the goals front it's a waste of time.

Very few good chances are being created, every single game that goes by we create virtually nothing, so our goals taken to good chances created ratio is probably very good. We just don't dominate games.
If we dominate games and attack purposefully instead of just tip tapping the ball around to each other we'll create chances and goals will come. The forwards are still better than last season IMO.
Brayford is a good player going forward and hopefully he can get into his stride again quickly and get us going forward with more menace. If he doesn't or is told not to were in deep trouble.

A truly ludicrous signing for me.
Compare the fee and wages to the give away of our captain for the next 15 years - Harry Maguire.
Truly insane.
A 100 percenter who is only a 6 as a defender and 6 as an attacker.
Told Phipps and Baki I was devastated at the stupidity.
Suffice to say - I did NOT get a retweet in their 'arse licking toady of the day' competition.
(That competition they run run whenever they are not in hiding)
