For the prosecution
Neil Warnock is in my experience universally despised by other fans. In fact, even we Blades can't agree whether we like him.

Chedgate and our Board's indecision hasn't helped. It has brought a nasty and negative focus onto our wonderful club.

Morgs is viewed as frightening.

The Tevez saga portrayed us as whingers in the London led media.

Under Bassett our style was seen as agricultural.

For the defence
Away fans respect the GCB song and I believe respect our numbers and attitude when we go to away games.

Our hooligans seem to play by the hooligan rules and don't seem to indiscriminately target non hooligans nowadays.

Our ground is a proper ground, close to the station and enables most away fans to have a decent ale trip (apart from having no bitter to drink in the away end!)

We don't have any big time Charlie's showboating it on the pitch (Nigel would, of course, banish em)

Our ability to hand other teams bargain signings who go on to play for England or in the Premiership is appreciated by those who do business with us.

Neutrals like our celebrity fans

Conclusion
So overall, our past footballing style, past managers and decisions of the Board put us in the negative, whilst our fans, their approach and the joy that is Sheffield and BDTBL put us in the positive. Leads me to think if you've met us and been here you like us, if your perception is drawn from the media you don't.
Since we changed the ethos of the club we have become the nations darlings
I remember a survey amongst football fans years ago and we were second most fashionable fans behind west ham :confused:of course most football fans nowadays are wankers who never step inside their clubs stadium so who gives a fuck what they think ?

Yeah. NBW's the lot of 'em

I think our cup exploits over the last 12 months have gone in our favour, although the Ched fiasco has probably done more damage than the good the cup runs have done.

Not in my experience. In fact Tottenham probably have a soft spot for you because of the West Ham thing.
Always had a soft spot for Spurs myself, definitely my favourite Premier League club.

It's good that 4 years of anti hoof have turned us into a much loved "Barcelona" type club.

In fact, take away small issues like that we're at our lowest standing in history, and everyone still hates us, and we're practically the same as Barcelona now.

And we should never lose sight of the changing ethos. It makes losing to Rochdale so worthwhile.

Sorry to be a pedantic cunt but we've never lost to Rochdale. ;)

I remember the Spurs push and run team, Danny Blanchflower et al. They stopped the pigs winning the First Division Title and did the double. Barrel chested Dave Mcay sp was a character. Someone at the Lane gave him the rods and he reciprocated in kind and had a laugh. We sold Jim Iley to them, which disapointed me. Little did I know then as a sprog, that we would repeat the selling off at a bargain price to almost all who made a bid.
Thanks to the Spurs guys who have posted on here . Interesting reading. Have a good day out at BDTBL (but not too good) and a safe journey
As an aside, I spent time working around London donkeys years ago. There was a feeling that the Arse and Spurs were not the best of chums. Are the games between them still warlike, off the field?

Bizarre as I always disliked Spurs. I don't now due to "Kyle Watch" and always think its great when Spurs win when either Kyle is playing. I work with a Spurs fan who is a decent guy and the banter is flowing at the moment due to the pending games. Hopefully he will be the quiet one come the end of Jan!!

Pinchy is an intelligent chap, so I assume he is just on some long running wind up here.

The idea that the average football fan would have the faintest idea of what style of play SUFC use otherwise betrays a rather exaggerated opinion of our prominence in the game.

Spurs fans at my work always tell me that United were cheated by the whole Tevez thing, although this probably has more to do with winding up West Ham, who they seem to loath at least as much as Arsenal.

It is not so much we hate them, it is more that we pity them. They are like that annoying little brother that always wants to tag along with you & your mates & your mum makes you do it. It is all our fault they hurl anti-semitic abuse at us because we call ourselves Yids according to them - they just do not understand the word CONTEXT.

Now, they HATE us with a passion beacause we 'are deluded'. They see themselves as the same level as us despite us averaging 6th place in the Prem over the last 9 seasons whole they yo-yo between divisions. They also think they have the best 'away support in London', We had 2500 at Burnley on Mon (& bringing 5.5k to you) & they had 500 at Everton on Tue. As our colonial cousins like to say, you do the math.

I think the way Oldham have handled it was purely desperate and made us look a whole lot better.

And the media shit-storm on Oldham has been even more intense, I've never seen anything like it, most news websites had LIVE COVERAGE and UPDATES.

Does everyone hate us?
As an exile I would say no as most people are ambivalent to us.
However log onto shoutbox on any match day and it seems a lot of our own fans hate us much more.

Really? Or do they just hate conceding a soft goal to lesser opposition after failing to have a worthwhile effort on goal or working the oppo keeper despite having 60% of the possession?

Like all things, some perspective is needed, but to brand all people who get a tad disappointed about losing, or clawing a draw from the jaws of victory every other week, as haters is crass at best. If people didn't really care they wouldn't give a fuck.

I was being a bit facetious. Seriosuly though there are definitely times were the criticism on there (considering most are not at the game) goes far too far. I know that you personally give praise as well as criticism and you obviously care, but there are definitely some who seem to only ever criticise and are so quick to jump on the negative bandwagon it is almost as if they enjoy it.

In the last few seasons, 'Ammers fans have been arrested for making hissing noises and singing about Hitler at White Hart Lane. Say no more.

Too right. I couldn't give a fuck what other fans think about us, but the reaction of our own is sometimes really depressing. The shoutbox on match day is to be avoided.

I think we are less liked than Wednesday by most fans of prem teams because they remember them from the 90s but a few of my mates in Rotherham prefer us over Wednesday and Leeds because they get sick of their fans.

I think there are a few clubs that really don't like us very much. Namely Pigs (fairly obviously), West Ham (also f o), Ipswich (play offs) and Hull (1984) being the ones I've come across most often.
There are also other fans of other clubs who have "hated" us because of associations of individuals. Warnock was particularly and, I thought surprisingly, disliked when I worked in Ireland for a while, I had much discussion with a former Police Officer from Middlesboro regarding the antics of one of our former managers when he was in the area, a couple from Huddersfield who's son was a junior at Hudders were extremely scathing of Hoofy for his treatment of their lad (they like Warnock though),

I think no-one, in large numbers, really cares.

On the other hand I'm beginning to hate all lesbians which is a new one for me!

Lets bring back Billy Whitehurst , and fans , managers and players would hate us . At least Billy would look after ,and protect all the others on pitch None of us would be moaning then about small players , who get bullied and knocked off the ball.

Just seen this thread and the only thing that i could think of, and the only valid point i can make is this. I basically do not give a flying fuck what any supporter of any other club thinks of Sheffield United.

Of course not, remember over 160,000 people have just signed a pettition so we don't do damage to our family club and community..

They, must really, really care about us.. :D

or 16000 signed it and 24 pigs joined in 6000 times each?
