Now that Oldham have finally decided against signing Ched Evans I can't help thinking about the way Sheffield United are perceived by the rest of Football.
Everyone witnessed the media shitstorm that rained down on us when we were said to be allowing him to train with us (not even sign him). As well as the threats from sponsors, patrons of the club, petitions etc. But yet Oldham, it appears, were willing to take him on. Was there something from within that football club that thought "I know Sheffield United got a whole world of shit over this but we'll be alright, everyone hates Sheffield United, they wouldn't do that to us"
Or am I just being paranoid?

Before we even start to get a fair deal on anything , we have to over come our neighbors sticking the knife in at every available chance

There's an attitude amongst blades that we're generally disliked but I think that, outside of Yorkshire clubs and West Ham, most people don't give us a second thought either way.

As for the Oldham thing I think they hoped the whole thing might have blown over a bit after we said no and that the media spotlight had moved elsewhere. Clearly that hope was misjudged.

I believe we are disliked by the Premier League hierarchy for making them look bigger pr**ks than they already are regarding their not having the balls to issue an appropriate punishment over the "Tevez affair" and we are disliked by the FA hierarchy for DARING to seek justice from their beloved chirpy cockney cheats, via the Courts and winning.

Most Clubs fans are probably ambiguous about us in the same way we are about them. Dirty Le**s scum, arrogant snivelling piggy bas**rds and cheating cockney West Ham gits excepted, of course !!

But generally, the question is; do we give a flying f**k what the football world think about us ? I don't :)

Yes, I hate us!!! Why couldn't I follow a team that actually wins something every now and then, is well regarded and sells good beer and pies? I blame my dad, he made some bad choices 56 years ago!!! Its the hope that gets you in the end.

But who cares what others think generally about us, not me, I think its amusing.

The Ched situation was , never mind what anyone connected with the club say , handled vey badly , from the board and associated professional advisers. Evans was seen as a tangible asset on a balance sheet , and a solution to the problem of scoring goals.

The PFA connection in my view was smoke and mirrors.

The society we live in , and football having no morales , is the main reason for the massive backlash we all encountered with being connected to the club.

Unless you are a blade no one is bothered about SUFC , and see us as a league 1 side , from a back water city .

The Evans debacle has raised our profile but for the wrong reasons . The saying of " todays news is tomorrows chip paper " is proved not correct in this case .

Evans is rightly or wrongly toxic , and we can do without the world media shit storm. We were viewed like we were , because , in some ways we deserved it.

Could not care less if no one likes us and hates us . Gives us something to build on under this new era of Mr Clough and Mr Prince.

I think pro Ched social media trolls promoting his actions and abusing those that disagree are one of the major reasons he can't find a club, the other obviously being he is a convicted rapist.

On one thing has ever driven this, envy of the money he could earn.

I don't give too much of a shit if anyone hates Sheffield United.

However I'm kind of glad Oldham took it upon themselves to go further down the line to signing Ched than we did....takes us out of the spotlight somewhat with regards to the subject

Years of Hoof have done us no favours in the football public estimation. Quite right, too.

I don't hate you billy

If I told you his name was really Gideon?

By the way we are no more loved or loathed than anyone else in my experience. We do have some seriously paranoid fans though.

It's good that 4 years of anti hoof have turned us into a much loved "Barcelona" type club.

In fact, take away small issues like that we're at our lowest standing in history, and everyone still hates us, and we're practically the same as Barcelona now.

And we should never lose sight of the changing ethos. It makes losing to Rochdale so worthwhile.

For the prosecution
Neil Warnock is in my experience universally despised by other fans. In fact, even we Blades can't agree whether we like him.

Chedgate and our Board's indecision hasn't helped. It has brought a nasty and negative focus onto our wonderful club.

Morgs is viewed as frightening.

The Tevez saga portrayed us as whingers in the London led media.

Under Bassett our style was seen as agricultural.

For the defence
Away fans respect the GCB song and I believe respect our numbers and attitude when we go to away games.

Our hooligans seem to play by the hooligan rules and don't seem to indiscriminately target non hooligans nowadays.

Our ground is a proper ground, close to the station and enables most away fans to have a decent ale trip (apart from having no bitter to drink in the away end!)

We don't have any big time Charlie's showboating it on the pitch (Nigel would, of course, banish em)

Our ability to hand other teams bargain signings who go on to play for England or in the Premiership is appreciated by those who do business with us.

Neutrals like our celebrity fans

Conclusion
So overall, our past footballing style, past managers and decisions of the Board put us in the negative, whilst our fans, their approach and the joy that is Sheffield and BDTBL put us in the positive. Leads me to think if you've met us and been here you like us, if your perception is drawn from the media you don't.

The media is the most powerful tool in the world , and can actually make , break or damage you. Not bothered if people like us or not. It does not get us 3 points . Any way i thought the majority of football fans only hated successful clubs.
