Warnock Fired again ?

Coventry were not bottom of the league. They finished 8th and were around that position when they played us.

All sides have at least a few poor performances over the course of a season, and that season we put in many very, very good performances both at home and away. We won more away matches that season than in any season since 1981-2..

Apologies I thought they were scrapping relegation at the time. Obviously that is bull shit! However the point still stands we played some awful stuff that day and Warnock showed his tactical limitations even during the good times.

He is not the long term answer for success at this football club.

Whether or not he is for the long term success of this club is a different matter entirely from out of the blue opening a post to have a pop at him (as the OP did).

We did play badly in the first half of that match and were probably lucky not to be 3 or 4 down by half time. But in the second half we played quite well and on another day may well have pulled it back.

As I said, all teams play poorly in some matches. A season is a long time. But at the end of that one we only lost 8 matches. This season in a lower league we've already lost 7 and we are still not quite half way through.

That was far and away Warnock's best league season though and we still had some dire performances and wasted shedloads of cash. He is a good motivator and good at getting the best out of players with limited talent.

However he plays some god awful football even if it is effective at times. I don't want that back at United is all I am saying. Playing exciting, fluid football and being successful are not mutally exclusive. Warnock might get us partial success but he wont get the other.

What a fucking joke
look where we were when warnock came in
where we were when he left and where we are now
look back over the last 40 years and take out basset who didnt have the impact crowd wise that warnock did and it's all lower league shit ,like now

Half the premier league are well within reach of being relegated. Unless I'm missing something that means they are struggling somewhat.

and above half way I don't think you can call 9th position acceptable as far as Liverpool and their fans are concerned, or 10th acceptable as far as Newcastle are concerned. Arsenal are 6th and miles away from winning a championship and Tottenham are inconsistent. Many there would expect better (let's hope that continues until after they have played us). If Manchester city don't win the league that will be seen as a failure, and the same can be said of Chelsea.

Most premier league managers struggle in one way or another, and it can be just as big a failure to come second as to get relegated, dependant on the expectations and financial strength of the club involved.

As for his premier league record, some would say getting Notts County there was a minor miracle in itself. Do you think any current premier league manager could have kept them up?

At QPR he wasn't even in the relegation zone when sacked with half a season to go, and at Palace he had less than half a season there and the side were hardly adrift were they?

So that leaves us, and the circumstances of our relegation have been debated numerous times in very great detail. Suffice to say there were other factors involved than just Warnock's abilities as a manager.

There were numerous other factors with NW at the lane . He was actually shit on from a great height by members of the board , with salary , bonus promises and players budget and players bonus money.

NW was good for us at the time , but he and we have moved on. Good luck to the guy , his Mrs , kids and tractor . He ought to tell the football world , he is hanging his boots up ,and going to work with talk sport and other media outlets. The only problem football , like for us on the forum and terraces , is a drug , and difficult to overcome .

Crowds trebled and millions in the bank

You know I loathe the man and don't think he is the long term solution but I cannot argue he got us to the Premier League. To even think about being in that position again is light years away.

I'm not suggesting he is
but I do yearn for the days when followING United was exciting when the players gave it a go and it winds me up to see the rewriting of history on here every time his name is mentioned .same goes for basset

I'll not argue with that.

Agree . The thing is like in all walks of life , NW is a dying breed in football , both in character and personality. First met NW when he was manager of Burton Albion , and he has never changed. He does not conform to the PLC mentality of football and in a way Mr Clough is the same.

Tactics and formations have changed but it is still about kicking a ball , and who scores most wins. Could help us a lot if we went back to basics this season.

NW is a top man and a integral part of SUFC history and folklore.
