Sounds like it from one of the other replies as well. Could be wrong but isn't there a big sign on BL upper stating Nick Matthew Olympic champion or something similar? What we doing promoting a pig!!!

Not very likely as squash isn't an Olympic sport. He is the reigning Commonwealth champion, as well as three times world champion and definitely a grunter.

I did my best to produce a notable Blade squash player and Trig Jnr (TE) made it to just outside the world top 100. He also played both against Nick Matthew and in the same team and did some missionary work, but his attempt at changing Matthew's football allegiance to red and white failed :-)

I remember from the long off days of BU, that reading somewhere along the line, Joan Collins Dad was a Blade
Yes it was reported in the Star in the 1980s (along with a photo of him reading a newspaper sitting on a chair) that he followed the Blades in the 1920s before moving to London and getting married etc

The Eskimo I remember I'm certain didn't have a skinhead in the mid to late 60's. Long black hair as i recall. Self proclaimed leader of Pond street mob, gang of lads and their molls:) who hung about the bus station acting hard etc, but actually weren't.
Always thought his kop leader claims were tenuous.
I was told his name is Eddie Evans

I have already mentioned him. He was at the Palace v Blades match in December 1971 (we lost 5-1), my dad told me to get Tony's autograph. I didnt know who he was but he was happy to sign my programme. When I came back to my seat next to my dad he told me that Tony is famous for being in the Black & White Minstel Show. How I could recognise a famous tv star when his face is always blackened in the shows!

I wondered that, but then I saw his Twitter page.

Yes you're right LSF he did have long hair but then had it shaved when the skins arrived on the scene as most of that crew did who hung around Pond St.

There was a place on High St very early 70s i think they called it Down Broadway at the side of Blue Bell Pub same crew hung about in there.

Kop Leaders:)

Used to go 'Down Broadway' in late 60's, a Stringfellow creation. Once saw Jethro Tull there too when they had a progressive night, cost ten Bob! :-) Soul nights were better though, full of minge :-)

Joslyn Hoyte-Smith: athlete, took part in the Los Angeles Olympics, now works as Yorkshire representative in some athletic body

Eskimo definitely had long hair 1978.

Palin is a blade, because my mum was reading a book of his a bit back, and it had a sheffield united like clock/watch on the cover, he also commented on finding out that united had won Grimsby and was happy.

Also there was someone on(or was) the Bill who is a blade, see him quiete often at games.

I thought he has always tried to take the middle ground when it comes to the Sheffield teams (Palin that is) but always suspected he was a Blade.

He famously says as a footnote in one of his diaries to an entry where he went to the Chelsea v United game with Bill Oddie on 1/9/73 that he supports both Sheffield teams - which in Sheffield is viewed as a crime punished by disembowellment - but that his primary loyalty is to United.
