Will Clough go 4-4-2 and sign new strikers for the cup tie at Gresty Road this weekend?? What are your opinions?? :)

Any strikers we loan will likely not be allowed to play in cup games which will be Clough's ready made excuse not to sign any.

What are your thoughts on Diego starting for the Blades since Clough has recalled him from York?? :)

According to a normally very reliable in the know merchant on another board, two strikers are due in today:confused:!!!

I'll go No and No Brenda.

Brendan* It's a shame Clough doesn't see what the fans see, playing Baxter on his own up front which isn't his preferred position is just unacceptable, especially when we aren't a face paced side and every time the ball gets in the box it's from a cross, Baxter would be well dropped back into his preferred position. We need a compatible pair of strikers who are tall enough to get a big head on it and Campbell-Ryce needs to do what he does best and get past his man and get into the box.

Perfect! Let's hope they're available for selection on Saturday!! :)

There wont be any strikers coming in for several reasons:
a) There's no money being made available by the Board despite the rhetoric previously
b) Any decent ones will be cup tied, therefore giving a ready made excuse
c) We don't play strikers until 80 mins + so nobody will want to come to warm a bench
d) Its unlikely that we are able to attract any decent strikers to the third division to be kicked in the air with no protection from the crappy referees
e) The master plan appears to be to get promoted on the cheap, which regrettably we have proven in the last 3 years doesn't work
f) The fax machine is still on the blink

In short ...... don't hold your breath !!

I think Clough sees exactly what the fans see, he just doesn't agree on the solution

I can't see him varying from one up front but, in my opinion, he will want Baxter to drop into midfield once he finds that striker. He has pace out wide and, when/if fit, Wallace breaking into the box and I can't see him varying from this.

With the right striker (an O'Grady type ) he'll see no reason to play 2 up front as we should have goal threats from Murphy,Baxter plus the other two strikers off the bench. However, I think we miss Davies on the right especially as he is more than a goal threat than JCR as well as a better crosser of the ball. Remember he will say we have only failed to score in two games this season .I know the main issue is we haven't scored enough which cost us against Barnsley, Orient and Preston in particular .

COG again apparently...source: Daddies...

On the positive side NC's comment in this article might indicate at least some game time for Diego this w/e. Also it looks like Paddy will be staying according to the Stir.:D

We should play 4-2-3-1

------------McNulty
Murphy --Baxter -- Flynn
------Doyle --- Wallace
Harris McEveley McCarthy Alcock
----------Howard

Doyle stays back, Wallace the box to box, Baxter the playmaker collecting and distributing
Flynn over JCR because he has an awful cross

Scougall and JCR as the super subs that can inject pace to the side, when the opponents defence is tiring

This should be the same everyweek.

8-1-1

Won't make much difference to how many we score but might stop us conceding those silly costly goals.

Was about to type summat in response/support.

There's no need. Nail/head.

With the players we already have Nigel's tactics should be working, we are hard to break down at the back, strong in mid-field and getting good balls into the box from the wings.
The chances have been there every match but the players up front are just not scoring their fair share even the center half's have stopped scoring from corners like they used to, and the longer this goes on the harder it's going get for them to score,....:(

We need to omit Baxter and play 2 strikers,1 a target man, similar to Deane and Agana,4-4-2 formation, and we will bury teams like Crewe etc

"It's not the lack of trying or going forward. We just need somebody with a bit of quality to put it in the back of the net for us."

At Crewe, just two shots on target. HORRENDOUS.
Just take a look at the Championship highlights and see how strongly teams attack from midfield...something Clough wants us to do but with Flynn, Murphey and Baxter having no physicality or power between them I despair.
We are so weak from the wings and add to that JCR who only does 3 second cameos Clough has badly misjudged his resources in my view. Added to which we seem to have injuries every week from his recruits, this division...here for the taking...is giving us more problems than it should.
