A toasted teacake has fruit in usually.A fruit teacake does.
A teacake is just bread.
This is more interesting than the ownership dispute

Don't forget in Notts it's COB![]()
My other half (a Turk, raised in London) worked at a cafe in Notts when she first moved north. The first order she ever received was for a ‘bacon cob’.
She’s been here 6 years now and still finds it utterly bizarre.
Did she think people in Nottingham had been cross breeding pigs with swans?
Tha's Barmy ladA teacake has fruit in.

When I was a nipper, there were some gennels (pronounced with a 'J') that were known as 'Eightfoots'. Don't flame me, I didn't make the name up. Anyone else come across an eightfoot?
Jitty is definitely a Notts thing. I'd never heard it before I dated a lass from Worksop.
Looks on brand for them....rundown and tatty, and plenty of empty spaces...
Here in Leicester, it will always be a "cob"
The 100 mile what?
it's three miles ffs
The 100 mile what?![]()

They'll be repainting that red though.
If we go to the local shop and want bacon in between 2 slices of a bread based poroduct and say Bacon roll, we have been given a sausage roll...only getting what we really want when we say cob.
Yep, people called the jennel next to our house "eightfoot".When I was a nipper, there were some gennels (pronounced with a 'J') that were known as 'Eightfoots'. Don't flame me, I didn't make the name up. Anyone else come across an eightfoot?

Was a poor attempt at a piss take of when people miss the plural e.g you can't have 100 'mile', it's 'miles'Eh?
Eh?
Correct Houston.
This annoyed me on Sheffield station. I went in the cafe on the platform and ask for a sausage roll, meaning a sausage roll.Surely you'd just ask for a bacon sandwich to avoid any confusion?
Being given a sausage roll is mental though.
Back in the 80s I did some missionary work in Maidstone Kent. on My first trip to the local chippy I asked for some fish and chips and a carton of mushy peas. Also in Leicestershire. Missus is a proper Rotherham lass.

We used to go into the bakers next door and ask for a dozen breadcakes and got looks of complete confusion....
