A teacake has fruit in.
Don't forget in Notts it's COB 🙄

My other half (a Turk, raised in London) worked at a cafe in Notts when she first moved north. The first order she ever received was for a ‘bacon cob’.

She’s been here 6 years now and still finds it utterly bizarre.

Did she think people in Nottingham had been cross breeding pigs with swans?

‘Someone’s just asked me for a bacon cob, but I don’t know what they want’ - is an exact quote. The cook was rather amused apparently.

She calls them rolls, which is not quite as daft but equally as incorrect, as this would make the sausage variant inextinguishable from the very thing that made Greggs famous.

And page 5 and 6 of this thread are what makes this wonderful forum soooooo Fucking great!
I love things like this. It's reht good!

When I was a nipper, there were some gennels (pronounced with a 'J') that were known as 'Eightfoots'. Don't flame me, I didn't make the name up. Anyone else come across an eightfoot?

Jitty is definitely a Notts thing. I'd never heard it before I dated a lass from Worksop.

Yeah. The Eight-Foot Way pub on Halifaz Road is named after the 2 gennels, or Eightfoots, that go into Chaucer Close opposite.

In the west of West Yorks, it's a teacake, centrally in the most populous areas it's a breadcake and east/south east of there it's a scuffler.

And ppl think we're a bit weird...

Here in Leicester, it will always be a "cob"

Also in Leicestershire. Missus is a proper Rotherham lass.

If we go to the local shop and want bacon in between 2 slices of a bread based poroduct and say Bacon roll, we have been given a sausage roll...only getting what we really want when we say cob.

We used to go into the bakers next door and ask for a dozen breadcakes and got looks of complete confusion....

Surely you'd just ask for a bacon sandwich to avoid any confusion?

Being given a sausage roll is mental though.

This annoyed me on Sheffield station. I went in the cafe on the platform and ask for a sausage roll, meaning a sausage roll.
Daft bint thought I wanted a sausage sandwich.

Back in the 80s I did some missionary work in Maidstone Kent. on My first trip to the local chippy I asked for some fish and chips and a carton of mushy peas.
I was looked upon as though I'd just come from mars!
What's mushy peas????
They'd never heard of them.
When I explained what they were, I was offered the alternative of............battered mushrooms!!!!
Ffs.
